I’ve traveled a bit in my 30 years of living, but this week is the first time in my life I’ve found myself in the Middle East! Hanging out in Qatar with my friends from @kalesthea has been nothing short of wonderful. I spent the first part of the day with a really long, really amazing practice (ya know when it just feels extra great?) and then we took SUVs out into the desert and mobbed the sand dunes. Check my story for clips from the day 🐫☀️ • On a more relevant note to the video here, this is an AMAZING workout for your core and shoulders. Joshua I redid the EPK switch drills coming back to 3 legged dog like you said. I actually did a lot of them so that part when you switch legs is getting smoother. My hips are not dropping as much as they were. Happy Monday Lola Lovers! . . My week hasn't been off to a happy start. I mean it was and then it wasn't... 😄😭 . . I almost cried on my mat, I had to do those V-lifts twice to start with, the first time I went well over the prescribed minute and stopped when my form started dropping. I was so happy with myself until I discovered my camera did not recorded any of it. Nada!!!! Guys, the thought of doing it again made me want to puke and regret so much going over time on the first round. . Slide 2 is my second take and it wasn't in great form but I'm glad I managed at all. 🙈. . . But that's not even all of my technical issues! This morning I beat my personal record and held #Lolasana for 35 seconds! 💪💪 So proud of the fight I put up to last that long, last few seconds were close to dying 🔥🔥🔥. . Well, all that has recorded is in Slide 3 - NOTHING 😱😱😱. My phone did the same thing as yesterday - just shut down completely and wouldn't restart, until I plugged it in and left for few minutes. The battery was almost full! No idea what the heck is going on 🤷. Sometimes I think these days all electronic devices are made to last just two years and then force us to buy new stuff again. . I'm sorry I wasn't able for another Lola hold nor recording, I snapped a picture. It has to do and you need to take my word for it again. Boo! . . Day 4 #stoketheinnerfire is lolasana. Oh boy, this is a tough one too😅🔥Right?! The shoulders need to move way past the wrist so be sure to warm your wrists and use blocks if needed. Several core muscles are at play here. The rectus abdominus compresses the torso, the hip flexors pull the thighs into toward chest but now the hamstrings pull the heels toward your seat. Remind yourself, chest to thighs heels to butt, protract the shoulders away from the spine and keep the low belly in 💯Check out my bonus video on my account dedicated to core work @activateyourcore for a drill on getting your heels toward your glutes. Day 4 of #PressingDreams with @cyogalife and co-hosts @yogawithaislinn and @rachelywang: #Lolasana variant. . This is one of those “chicken-or-the-egg” (variant) asanas. The tighter you can tuck the quads into the chest (when holding them in front like this), the easier the asana is to hold (a tight tuck reduces the moment arm of the legs and requires less overall strength to hold the shape together). ...But to get the legs really tight in, it takes core strength to initially tuck them in really tight (once they’re there, it doesn’t take as much strength to maintain it). Try shifting from this pose into L-Sit, and you’ll see how the intensity increases as you increase the moment arm of the legs away from the center of the body. . Now think about the lean into a pike or straddle press ascent; the closer the quads (assuming straightened legs) are to the torso at the initial lift, the smaller the moment arm of the legs with regard to the torso and the upper body that’s having to support it all. If the quads aren’t tucked in as tight, the upper body will have to compensate with quite a bit more power, to get the whole shape aligned and airborne. . Compression helps us “stack” our center of gravity alignment and reduce wonky moment arms that take more strength to execute. ☀️☕️ . This is not to say that the forearms, for example, won’t have to strengthen to bear the load in a slightly different way as the legs are drawn closer in, but that will come more naturally as we build strength in the core. . 🎉Happy Monday out there guys and THANK YOU for all the kind words about my new hair... ❤️😉 So. You guys are having breakthroughs 🙌 Some of you are meeting Lola for the first time, some of you are so close you can taste her and others look like they've been with her for ages 🤣 You guys are inspiring the heck out of me ❤ I've been seeing some frustrations in the gallery with losing time in Lola holds. Guys, everday will be different. You are all working hard everyday and that's what matters 😉 Guess what? I lost some hang time today too 🤷‍♀️ Back at it tomorrow 🔥🔥🔥 . Slide ☝️ is the exercise for today. Sped up 2x! You also have the option to do a full V-Sit instead. I knew my energy level was low today so I went with the half, alternating with opposite arm and leg. . Slide ✌ is the daily Lola Drill. We'll be doing this everyday for 30 seconds. Day 7 of #AllIWantForChristmasIsLola and #CollateralPractice . . . . . For cyogalife, working on epk2. And for Lola, working on Lola hold and floating tabletop hold. I always forget to float my tabletop. Those floating bird dogs seemed like a good idea but they just weren’t working out for me especially with a hold. So question about Lola. My ugly cross leg Lola I can hold for a long time. Did about 45 sec here and honestly could go longer but got bored. But I don’t think the form is right. Is crossing the legs bad form? Trying with legs not crossed, my hold time much worse. Also it tends to give me foot cramps. It gave me a really bad one today and I left my overly dramatic facial reaction in the video because it amused me. Hey guys, foot cramps hurt. Hi everyone! My name is Marcy and I'm 53 years young. I started practicing yoga at the age of 42 and started my #Ashtanga practice at the age of 46. I had severe asthma problems and yoga really helped me to take control of my health. I eliminated use of all my asthma medications. Although this year the summer humidity was brutal and I needed an inhaler, overall I am in great health. I became a yoga teacher at the age of 50 and feel younger now than when I was in my thirties. Day 9️⃣ #AllIWantForChristmasIsLola From @spiritual_bish ・・・ 🕉 My thoughts 💭 Love these drills , 46 seconds, on the Lola hold. I made it past 45 so I think a minute is possible. Can’t keep it compressed the whole time , start drooping at the end but my feet didn’t touch. I also tried straightening out the arms. I really focused on my armpits and I thought that they were dead straight. They weren’t 🤣. Video doesn’t lie. Doing the 30 seconds on each side definitely took concentration. . 🕉 The rest is from Olga Happy Sunday guys!! How’s everyone feeling? I’m definitely a bit sore and tired 😆 Some amazing stuff going on in our gallery like for real! So inspiring ❤️ I didn’t have much progress today, back to 25 seconds in my lola.. But it’s alright , I think my body needs a bit of rest, so plan on taking it easy today! . . Slide 👆 floating table top 1 min. . Basically like table top, only the knees are “floating” above the floor. Scapula protracted, push away from the floor. Don’t forget that lola lean!!! Guys, lolasana has not gotten easier for me. All the core strengthening and crow poses, & this pose still is totally elusive to me. But you know what has gotten easier? Accepting that my body builds strength differently now & at different speeds. Becoming patient with myself. Seeing my lazy side, my lack of motivation, & accepting those aspects of myself & working towards bettering it. It has gotten easier to accept that I still can’t do lolasana.
