Loaded Chili I used to make my chili with meat, beans, canned tomatoes, and seasonings. Everyone loved it. But not long ago I started thinking....”although this isn’t necessarily bad for you, it is seriously lacking in nutrients. “ ....soooooo I stepped up my game and started adding veggies. Not only is it way more packed with nutrition but it also taste even better. Has much more texture and seems more hearty and satisfying. Kids still love it! Give it a try. 1) chopped veggies, sauté, set aside. **This can be just about any veggie. I added onion, celery, carrots, bell pepper, garlic and zucchini. Use what you have on hand. 2) brown hamburger meat, add seasonings. ***cumin, chili powder, oregano, salt & pepper 3) add veggies in with the meat mixture and then add canned tomatoes. ***I used a combination of stewed and fire-roasted. ***this is such an easy dish that can be adjusted to whatever you have on hand. Basically you are throwing in some ground beef, veggies, spices, and canned tomatoes. See just 4 ingredients 😁 And BAM! #keepitsimple #realfood #simplefood #eatyourveggies

🍁Summer is drawing to an end, shorter and colder days are gaining on us which begins to make early morning practice or even getting to an evening class a little more challenging. 🍁🍂🍃 . Here are a few tips to help ease the transition 》》》 . • Buddy up! Practicing for someone else is easier than practicing for yourself. Agree to come with a friend to class/lift share so that you won't want to let the other person down. If you don't go to class, they might not go and they need their yoga! . • For early morning class invest in a natural light alarm clock. It has a calming red light for the evening which aids melatonin that regulates sleep and wakefulness. It wakes you up gradually with a sunrise light. Salt lamps are great too for winding down in the evenings. . • Keep your phone as far away from you as possible. I mean it! . • Turmeric lattes before bed. Caffeine free and good for the nervous system. Healthier but just as cosy as a hot choc! . • We have a log burner in our shala. So even if it's dark and cold outside, know that it's warm and cosy in the shala 🧡 . • Know that when you get to class, all your yogi buddies will be there. Getting up the same time as you and making the effort. . • Remember that practice in the winter is just as, if not more important than the summer. With the new #totalmoneymakeover that my husband and I are on, the new diet I’m trying (because I yo-yo diet all the time, basically..), my new exercise regimen (yay cardio!!), and everything else I do, it’s so much an issue of mind over matter. Demonstrating some facilitated (PNF) “stretching” with a client - who at 76 years old, and retired from a career in nursing (prolonged standing/walking) spanning decades, a history of knee surgeries and degenerative and arthritic changes to her knee joint - who is probably not going to regain full mobility of her knee joint. • • • • The goal here, per principles of #functionalanatomyseminars (as best as I understand them), is to keep things simple by assessing the joint and trying to improve upon its limitations. In this case she is very limited in flexion of the thigh at the knee joint. • • • • I am not a physician, I am a fitness coach and massage therapist with a rehabilitation background - straightforward is the game, simple is the name. My goal is to keep things simple and stay within my scope of practice. • • • • The advantage of utilizing facilitated stretching for this client is that she is in control of the movement entirely, so I am not forcing her into a potentially painful position (since this is a chronic degenerative issue and not a post-operative knee, forcing uncomfortable ROM is not necessary). • • • • By having the client move to her joint’s end-range and working isometrically in a progressing and regressing fashion by having her push against my knee (progressive) and pulling her knee into more flexion away from me (regressive), control and conditioning is being gained - thereby increasing the effectiveness and sustainability of the exercise.

There are certain #organic and #crueltyfree foods that I try to keep within reach. Not always the same foods - except for the bananas and dates - but for now these are some of my favourites: 1. Different Raw Dehydrated @gurusnack Granolas. Light blue = Original Brown = Cocoa Purple = Berry Freaking delicious as topping on smoothie bowls. 2. Good ol' bananas! Great as they are, in smoothies, mashed or frozen to make #nicecream 3. Dates! Either medjools, mazafatis or date paste. Great as they are, on the run, in smoothies, in bars or as an extra sweetener in nice-cream. 4. Cashews! I am not that "nuts", but these cashews are just awesome as they are, mixed with raisins, in salads, in bars or in nice-cream. 5. Peanut butter! Just absolutely amazing in smoothies, mashed with bananas, in dressings and sauces... and of course in nice-cream. 6. Pumpkin seed flour! For the moment, this is something I mix in almost all my smoothies/smoothie bowls. Not as much of a pumpkin seed taste as whole pumpkin seeds, but still very nice. Can also be mixed in that nice-cream. This is now... next month maybe something else - except for the granola, bananas, dates, cashews and peanut butter. What are your staple foods?
