Long ago I would wake up an hour before dusk to partake in the Amrit Vela (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ) which translates to the ambrosia period. It was this beginning of the day that the sages believed the best time to engage in one's sadhna/spiritual practice. Now I end up coming home from work around this time, or fall asleep around then. I've let my life start to take precedent over my practice, and all was going well until about three weeks ago. . I discovered a new style of practice called Bheema Shaakti which uses kriya yoga in order to systematically open the body up in order to have advance in some rigorous styles of yoga such as Mysore Ashtanga, or Anusara. I kept thinking that maybe if I could achieve more range of motion than it would be enough to replace all the quiet moments wasted away binging on shows I've rewatched numerous times. . One morning I began my leg kriya and pushed too far, and I ended up tearing my right glute muscle. This injury has added a new perspective to my teaching style, and for that I am grateful. On a personal level-- this injury has reaffirmed to me that my ego has not become my friend. I know that the asanas adaptable to each unique body, yet there was still this desire within me to achieve the yoga journal worthy aesthetics in the postures. This video was hard to make-- these few poses: Upavistha Konasana, Janu Sirasana, and Parivrtta Janu Sirasana, are some my least favorite poses because years of practice has not led to any tangible results in them. I can muscle my way into a "fuller expression" but there is enough wisdom within (thank the cosmos) that tells me to refrain from such futility. 26 Days of Hot 26 // Day 25 Poses 24 and 25. Janusirasana with Paschimottanasana / Seated head to knee pose. These two poses are done in close succession and often grouped together - I've done so because I wanted to highlight that in hot 26 janusirasana, the spine is rounded (like in standing head to knee pose) - which might be different from classical - whilst in paschimottanasana, the spine is not rounded and kept straight as far as possible. That's an important contrast to bear in mind here, to ensure you're working the right parts of the body! . (Ft my first yoga "selfie" with a makeshift tripod 😅 anyone has recommendations for a phone tripod?!) . WHAT TO FOCUS ON? - Rounded spine in janusirasana, straight spine in paschimottanasana - Bend your knee if needed to bring your head to your knee in janusirasana. In paschimottanasana, you may bend your knees to bring your head to your toes - Eventually work to straighten your knee and press the back of your knee onto the mat - Feet flexed - Keep your hips and shoulders squared in both poses. #Janushirasana #HalfButterfly * Sit in Dandāsana, flexing the toes upward. * Bend left knee and bring the sole of the foot on the inner right thigh. * Inhale - Raise your arms above the head, lengthening the spine. * Exhale -  Reach forwards folding over the right leg. * Keeping your back flat hinge forward from the hip joint. * Take hold of the left shin, ankle or the toes; wherever you are, keep your elbows as soft as possible. * Relax through the shoulders and sink forward with the belly and chest towards 
the thigh. The crown of your head reaches for the toes. Let gravity do the work.
 In the pose * Undulate with the breath, find a slight gentle lift with the inhale, soften with the exhale. * Internally rotate the left thigh. 
Repeat on the opposite side. Checkpoints * Keep the toes flexed on both feet. On the extended leg, the toes point towards the sky, try and keep the outside of the foot engaged. * Keeping the back as flat as possible will stretch into the hamstrings, but if they are tight, you can put a bend in the knee or a rolled blanket under the knee. * Don’t forget to breath :). I have missed very few days in the last two months and achieved my first proud breakthrough today: being able to touch my head to my knee during (albeit slightly modified) #janusirasana “head to knee pose” !!!!!! Small gains, big happiness. It is hard to describe the many things I’ve learned during my first months in #India, not just about #yoga but about myself, life itself and the deep, sometimes damaging way how cultures condition our existence and beliefs. I got my first 200hr YTT certificate at @yoga_teacher_training_india , an accomplishment that I see as a baby step in this long path of yoga life. I’ve met smart and generous people from all over the world. I also had the chance to teach yoga to my wonderful classmates, who supported me all the way during long days full of physical and mental challenges. It wasn’t easy. Some days were an emotional roll coaster, others were full of joy. My mind was captivated by philosophy classes, the same way that was jumping around like a monkey during meditation classes . I just feel grateful and privileged for being here, for having the chance to stop for a second the rhythm we live at in the western world. To stop and think. To appreciate life. To be offline. The learning road never ends.
