No dogma in my downdog! Or any posture actually. The asana is a tool, and like any tool you may have multiple uses for it . . Downdog is one of my favourite examples of how diverse a single a pose can be . . Top left shows a traditional variation, which is great for opening the hamstrings and strengthening the shoulders . . But add a twist with the hips and you get a delicious side stretch . . Bend the knees and press (with active shoulders) the chest back to the thighs to open up the shoulders and thoracic spine . . Or stay on the tops of the feet as you transition from upward dog for a lovely ankle and shin stretch . . Do you have any favourite downdog variations? . . Entire outfit by @aloyoga 💙 . . Catching up on #pressingdreams Days 1, 2, and 3 with #uddiyana, revolved #janusirasana, and #ubhayapadangusthasana. • I looooove challenges like this that present a set of skills or concepts and build toward a peak pose—like a lot of casual yoga dilettantes I have many gaps in my practice and no very clear idea of how to connect ideas or make progress toward a goal. There is so much anxiety and stress I get from outside factors. #war #life #staypositive #hereforyou  So I just want to share something that really helps me. Just 3 poses, some breathing, resting, and alignment, whenever you can. #janusirasana I've been a big time fan of yoga since 2002. It works! #headtokneepose #pregnancy Anyone can do this asana ( janusirasana ) on the right and left. Then #savasana (corpsepose) #yoga #makeitup!!! So #pranayama it's easy to say just #relax. Move into the post right away. I love that you can then begin to think about a #skeleton and how it all lines up. You want to try to do that until you get into your pose. It can be #modified. Stay in the pose for however long you wish. #restorative. I love to think about peeling an onion or how many layers there are. Mainly, try to get that peace, filled up with good vibes! I love that you can use props , as many as you want. Blankets, blocks. #intention Try not to judge others. Be kind. Think about how your actions affect each other especially at a time like this. #unify #America #teamwork #worldpeace I feel so bad for those who couldn't sit on the floor. Try in a chair and align your spine. No rush. Do as much as you feel. From a sitting pose, stretch out your right leg to the right. Create a 90 angle with your legs by bending your left leg and placing the outside edge of your foot on the floor. Sit up straight (apparently 80% of #Buddhism is posture) #inhale #breathe, and with an #exhale gently fold, bend forward. When you are ready, inhale, come up. Lie on your back, let your legs fall open, or prop them up.  Tuck your shoulder blades behind your back. Rest here, breathe, imagine space between the discs of your back. Align them by bringing energy to any pain. Take your time. Place your hands on your stomach or beside. To come out of the pose, roll over onto either side and pause for as long as you want. Bring your self up with your hands and try to keep your spine aligned. Yesterday during our 300 hour Advanced YTT with @ellenmosko we did a Yin Yoga practice and discussed the energies of Durga and Dhumavati, two goddesses and how they relate to everyday life. Normally my half dragonfly or janu sirasana is super deep but after several months of diving into everything I do I decided not to and held back a bit. Fact is, this vata season has my joints feeling dry and stiff and my mind a bit overwhelmed. I decided to take a step back and sit here. Dhumavati’s role is to help you to determine the real from unreal and pause and reflect before you move forward. Is this really serving me? Why am I doing this? I find that finding my deepest expression of the pose isn’t always what I need at the moment. Diving into the next step of my journey without pause or a break can become burn out. Through stillness and contemplation we sometimes find our truest needs and self. Then I discovered this variation of Janu Sirasana with a very slight rotation towards the extended leg..... and man does it hit the spot 👊 It's not the most exciting video but it shows how I really need to breathe deep and soften.
