I try to prepare all my meals from scratch, but I always have a few ready meals on stand by; first time trying @traderjoesfl shepherds pie (but made with beef as opposed to the traditional lamb, so more of a cottage pie) and had with grated carrots and wholegrain mustard. “Plain and simple... my summer has been great. I am nowhere where I was prior but I had a blast! It’s extremely easy for someone who is heavily involved in the fitness community to be hard on themselves once they start to slip up more than a few times and get out of rhythm with their daily routine. BUT the older I get the easier it is to realize “Calm the heck down girl. You’ll get back on track once the season settles a bit.” The most important thing is not to allow myself to get TOO off track. Diet and exercise are not out of the ordinary for most of us. For me it has been years and years of training hard in addition to hours of meal prep. The most helpful part is guidance from a 1 on 1 nutrition coach + a team to help hold you accountable and keep motivated. 🥘EVENING NUTRITION 4/4🥗 . Who doesn’t love banking their calories for a big meal at the end of the day? Hell, if you’ve followed me for any length of time you already know I do…There’s probably nothing more annoying to me than trying to go to sleep not feeling satiated by what you’ve eaten, and I’ve spent a great deal of time messing around with variances in food types, density, variety, etc. to find what keeps me satisfied before bed. . Many times, this is where I hit/cap off the remainder of my macros, and since I don’t use too many calories during the day (just enough to keep energy levels and MPS up), I can enjoy a good portion and variety of food. The idea here is simple, here’s what the meal consists of and why: . 🥗Salad: 8-12oz of baby spinach to get additional micros and I always enjoy a big salad. 🍳Eggs: High-quality protein/fat source for MPS also containing choline and some Omega-3s. 🍿Popcorn: Airpopped for an organic whole food source of fiber, savory flavor, and extra volume. 🍦Pro-ice Cream: Homemade (see recipe), minimal fat, high protein (casein) for MPS, scratches itch 😛 🥣Cereal: Majority puffed wheat with 1-3 servings of sweet cereals. Some carbs and a good crunch/mixin. . Additional reasons for my food choices: - Baby spinach contains small amounts of Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, and Potassium. - Eggs contain Vitamin A, B2, B5, B12, Selenium - Popcorn contains Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, Folic acid, Magnesium, Selenium, and Zinc. - Homemade ice cream saves money on store-bought brands, more volume, lower cals, healthier overall. - Cereal actually contains some vitamins and nutrients and lately I’ve preferred less sweet options like Rice Chex and always like a healthy dose of puffed wheat…again, makes for a nice crunchy mix in. . You see a lot of programs and coaches don’t care about the after effect of a hard diet. Basically a slowing of the metabolism as a result of too much of a deficit created by hours of cardio or too low of calories for too long. The result? A post diet rapid weight gain when clients are still eating relatively healthy. It sucks and is unnecessary if the correct initial approach is taken. Killed last weeks #run. Only difference, I finally gave in and ran in #runningsneakers rather than my trusty #wrestlingshoes. I do everything in wrestling shoes. But we will see if they help with my ankle compression. Knocked about 4 min off my total for the 2 mile. And my 1st mile was my fastest of 7:50. So what is TRX??? It stands for total-body resistance exercise and tests your strength, balance and stability. TRX exercises are great because they can be modified. Some exercises you may start off advanced, others moderate or beginner. It tailors to your individual training goals/needs. A wide range of people participate in the classes I take because of this. With that being said, I am learning so much from the instructors over at @unitethetribe. My biggest take away so far has been that FORM is everything. Performing a movement incorrectly can result in injury. I’m all about mental strength, but if you’re doing plank suspensions and your back is sagging but you’re forcing yourself to stay up, you’re not working your abs - rather putting unnecessary pressure on your lower back! Give these back exercises a shot! First vid take form of a “Y”, second vid take form of a “T”! For both videos - getting closer to the ground (more parallel with it) is more challenging. Standing up straighter (more perpendicular) makes it easier. Be sure to squeeze your shoulder blades together and really focus on the momentum of the movement. #trxtraining
