When it comes to cor

𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀: 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸⁠ When it comes to core work, you don’t get more basic than the plank. I’ve talked about the humble front plank before, and that’s a good start. It gives you a good introduction to static stability, and you’re working your abs and core as a unit. As much as it’s popular to divide exercises into front abs, side abs, upper abs, lower abs and even more divisions, your body isn’t made to work muscles in isolation. ⁠ ⠀⁠ That said, the front plank does bias muscles like the 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘥𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴 and 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘥𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴 more. Other important muscles work less, like the 𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴 and the 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴 𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘶𝘮 muscles, those lower back muscles which form considered posterior muscles of the ab wall. ⁠ ⠀⁠ Enter the side plank. ⁠ ⠀⁠ Lie on left your side with your legs straight and your left elbow stacked under your shoulder (A). Keeping your head in line with your spine, lift your hip off (B). Imagine pulling your belly button 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦. Because you’re now on just one foot and elbow, you have an added balance and coordination challenge. Repeat on the other side. ⁠ ⠀⁠ 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀:⁠ Even though this is the 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 plank, keep your 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦 core engaged so that your body forms a rigid plank. ⁠ ⠀⁠ Counterintuitively, try to 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯. 𝘕𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨!⁠ ⠀⁠ Try to keep your head and neck aligned. Focus on a spot on the wall ahead of you. ⁠ ⠀⁠ 𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧! Life/fitness update: Sitting in my room, drinking tea, and rubbing my belly because I am pretty sure I ate bad fish for lunch. A lot of my posts lately have bounced back and forth between motivating myself to workout and justifying if I haven't been "on track" with where I would like to be. Part of that has to do with it being summer, my lack of access to resources, and the constant pressure of living where I work. I feel a need to be on non-stop for my job, and when I am not following through on a hobby it is a letdown, but also an act of self care. Living at work and knowing that you can be called up at any time (even if you aren't on call) leads me, personally, to feel very caged. When I feel trapped I tend to try and control and manage that frustration by refusing to do more than necessary and conserving what little energy I have. None of this is to say I'm going on a cut, or even trying to force myself to work out more. I truly believe that when my school starts again in late August, I will feel less agitated. For now, I will listen to my body's cues: if I want to exercise, then I will, and if I am too tired or not feeling up to it, in my opinion it is detrimental to push through.

Before and after photos. We always want the after to happen so quickly. Like there should be nothing in between! Whether it be Home transformations or health and fitness transformations! #amiright? . . Tonight I was looking at the first of my before and after home project photos. I am so dang proud of so LITTLE progress- just some window and trim painting. It made me realize I’m much less proud of baby steps in my health and overall wellness. #ahamoment 🤯 . . To be honest, 6 months ago I would have NEVER thought I would physically be able to take on the stress or physical activity of a kitchen/living room semi-remodel. My #mcas had been kicking my butt big time. But summer and my new fitness routine are making me feel stronger than I have in nearly 3 years. That’s MORE than #babysteps !🤭🥳 “after” photos really need to be #progress photos!!! . . Tonight I’m going to bed and my prayers are focused on praise to God above for this respite, even if it’s temporary. I have so very much to be thankful for in my life and this project is just a very fun BONUS!🤩😍 . . And just a little warning. I’ll be posting a lot of “progress photos”🥰😉

But here’s the deal friends, life is gonna go on its merry way, and you have the CHOICE to be the best version of yourself and take it on or to be miserable and go through the motions. I know what my choice is gonna be!⠀ ⠀ All of those excuses in your head are just that...excuses. Trust me, I used to use all of them too. Sometimes I still struggle with them. I know somewhere out there someone is 100% struggling with what I almost let ruin my day yesterday, so if you or someone you know needs to hear this, I ask that you please share to get this message around. This post is all about self sabotage and negative self talk. Yesterday was 100°+ degrees outside so I pulled out a shorter pair of jean shorts than I’ve been used to wearing lately. At first I told myself I didn’t care what it looked like because it was hot outside. That was until I looked in the mirror. The first thing I saw when I looked in the mirror yesterday was how flabby my legs were, and I immediately wanted to change into something else. It took a nice confidence boost from my fiancé to change my mind, and then I realized something. Y’all. I have made so many strides this year in my health and fitness, specifically in the last month alone. Yet all I could see in that mirror in those shorts was where I still hadn’t reached yet. No, my legs are not in the shape I’d like them to be in, but most days my legs are one of my favorite parts of my body because they truly are strong. So stop. Just stop the rude way you talk to yourself, because let’s be real - you wouldn’t talk to any of your friends and family that way. Instead, let’s learn to love ourselves in the moment. Let’s learn to love ourselves for the way we are right now. Let’s learn that we are perfect just the way we are, and if we want to make a change it should be to strive towards being even better than we were the day before rather than to try to rid ourselves of the person we hate looking at in the mirror. 💕
