Where do you look in a handstand? . Have you ever wondered this? I personally believe, where you look makes a huge difference to the shape of your body, depending on what your INTENSION is. . For a straight handstand, some teachers say to look between your fingers or thumbs. But notice how in 2016 this correlated to reduced shoulder extension and anterior pelvic tilt. . In 2018 my eye-line is BEHIND MY WRISTS, and lo and behold, a line as straight as my priorities 😁 . Now CORRELATION does not necessarily mean CAUSATION! You have to try this out for yourself! I could not hold any type of handstand six months ago. When I started practicing them back in March, I was obsessed with alignment and correcting my banana back.🍌 I would try to hollow out my core as soon as I kicked up, and I could never find that balance on my hands that just felt “right”. I switched up my approach and decided to just find my balance first, and then work on fixing my alignment. • This might not be the “proper” way to learn, but it worked for me. I’ve finally found that balance on my hands and now that I can be upside down without panicking, I’m finding it much easier to hollow out my core and pull up through my shoulders. I see small improvements slowly but surely, and it feels so great. To anyone currently working on their handstands – practice every single day. Whether it’s for 5 minutes, 10 minutes or your whole practice, get used to the feeling of being on your hands. Every time they take your weight, they build a little more strength, and you find a little more stability.💕🤸🏻‍♀️

In the meantime however here is an amazing handstand drill that I found over on @beachyogagirl page! It is such a fantastic way to find your handstand line! I highly recommend!!! I'm currently putting together a Press to Handstand coaching program. The first thing that we will cover is handstand line. It's not essential that your line is perfect (however that is defined) but there are some aspects of your line that will increase your ability to press. . The first is your overhead position. Yes flexibility may be a limiting factor here but another huge part is understanding how to get into that good overhead position under load. . In the first drill I show a stick version. If I bring that stick overhead, it is difficult to get a good line unless I reach up (elevate) and create the space to pull my arms back and ribs down. . It's slightly harder to see in the handstand version but I initially start without pushing. I am trying to get into a good line and pull my ribs down. BUT until I push and elevate my shoulders it is really impossible to get into a straight line. . In a press to handstand the float from the floor comes from this push (shoulder elevation) while at the same time compressing and pulling your chest in and ribs down. So before you work the press make sure that you can get into this overhead position in your freestanding handstand. . The cats were having a blast in the gym today, nothing gets them going like handstand technique videos! . #handstandtips #handstandline #presstohandstand

We have this terrible habit of thinking that the thoughts in our heads are facts. . Like we make up these amazing stories in our minds... and then we believe them. But they’re oftentimes NOT amazing. They suck. And they’re self-defeating. . I’ll never be able to look at my body and love it. I’m gonna feel anxious for the rest of my life. I have to do what she’s doing for people to like me. I’ll never be as good as her. . I’ve been there, believed that. Along the way, we start to attach ourselves to a story and then make it “part of our life.” Undoing it isn’t easy. It’s a practice. Like handstands. How many times have I gotten upside down just to be able to hold it for 10 seconds?! How many times have I fallen, gotten pissed or wanted to give up? Too many to count. But you keep going because you want the result. . And you can’t just watch videos about handstands or creating a new life story. You can’t just listen to someone’s “tips.” You have to do the work. You have to turn your world upside down over and over again for it to stick even once. And then you have to keep doing it for it work again. It’ll take a lot of effort and sometimes you’ll fall, but eventually your mind will start to believe the story you’d rather it believe. But the important thing to know, is that NONE of it is fact. Even the good stuff. (I know it sucks, sorry!) It’s all a practice. And it’s so worth it. It’s worth you realizing the potential you have.
