My yoga handstand journey has been a journey of challenging myself, challenging my strength and mostly it has challenged my growth in life Presently. As I continue to grow stronger, I will master the art of yoga handstand inversions. . . Here’s why I come to love handstands. . Physical: Rooting the hands into the earth challenges the body’s equilibrium and reverses the effects of gravity (e.g. compression and shortening of the spine). I’m supposed to be packing for our trip to Denver tomorrow. Currently reassessing my life choices and thinking of every reason not to go see my family after years. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my mom and stepdad and siblings. I know I’m not the only one who grieves the childhood they once had. Anxiety stemming from traumatic events. Triggers that you aren’t even aware are triggers until you put two and two together. My stepdad and I always had a shit relationship. I never cared for him. And if I’m being one hundred percent honest I still don’t care for the guy. But I try my hardest to respect everyone. Even the people who are the sole reasons behind my trauma. But holy fuck I don’t think I can spend an entire week with him. My husband is trying to convince me otherwise. This will be his and my children’s first time meeting my family. It’s such a fucking rollercoaster for me. I don’t really talk much about my family to my own family. My husband knows very little about my childhood. Hell, I was mortified to tell him about my mom and stepdad. I always felt it would be easier to say I didn’t have any. Then I’d never have to worry. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Someone send some good vibes my way lol. Not sure why I’m sharing this with a bunch of strangers. But it feels nice to kind of get that off my chest. Today I had a really slow practice working with opening up different parts of my body, especially my spine. However when I then wanted to do more active stuff I was kind of exhausted in a weird way so nothing really worked out 🙃 I did manage to get this one for #nopressurepressmonday I still wonder if I ever will be able to loose the strap 😆

Last year I became addicted to practicing handstands once I’d got over my fear, but lost a regular practice having started to work on compression strength, resulting in an injury in December that still rears its head if I spend too long in certain positions. . Rest is great but it does mean you lose strength in other areas. Going back to basics and form is where I’m at now. I’d love to get my straddle even and a deeper tuck this year - as well as chip away at pressing when the wrists can handle it- x3 one minute handstand holds at the wall daily to build arm and shoulder strength, plus these balance holds off the wall to build endurance. . Feels quite humbling when you know you’ve taken more than a few steps back in any area you’ve previously progressed in. However, that’s all a part of learning, becoming aware, and observing how you respond to a situation - which in the grander scheme is much more important than the thing itself. .
