This is one of my go to press to handstand

Elevated Press to Handstand This is one of my go to press to handstand progressions. I suggest starting with your feet higher so that your butt and feet are the same height. . The key is to push straight down and float your feet by rolling your butt up over your shoulders. The key to the press is to push down hard enough to float your feet. . For those less flexible (or working on a pike press) you may be tempted to break your line and lean your shoulders forward. This is more of a planche technique and while not bad, will not lead to the press that I am doing. Train for the technique that you want to be able to do. . Now for the pike (and for the straddle if your middle splits sucks) your butt will need to be further over your hands in order to float. But keep pushing down and don't break your line:) . OK so I promised some of my favorite handstand drills! .these are sped up like 18,0000 times. 😂 These warm-ups really helped my handstand practice tremendously from one where I may or may not be able to hang upside down to being able to control my time and movements a lot more. Be sure to warm up your wrists thoroughly -that’s going to be another video because it deserves it’s own post. . . 1️⃣ Shoulder protraction and elevation- this is one of the most important actions to learn for hand standing. Being able to isolate and move your shoulder blades away from each other and up and down. On all 4’s or plank, try to isolate just your shoulder blades. Sinking down and then spreading them apart. Then from down dog, elevate (shrug your shoulders) and depress (pull away from your ears) this is the single most valuable action for handstands. At least the gymnastic version not the yoga handstand. 2️⃣ hop ups. Pushing off a block from your bottom foot. You can do this against the wall. This helps you to get your hips over your shoulders. When you throw the top leg up you’ll throw yourself over too far most likely, working to push off the bottom leg well hope you engage your core and also get your hips over your shoulders. 3️⃣ one minute hold at the wall pushing the earth away wrapping your triceps, or broadening your back and squeezing you’re for arms towards each other so that you don’t bend your elbows. Bending your elbows is not weakness necessarily its fear. If we have a slight bend it gives us leeway and room for error and correction, but to really get the most out of your handstand you want to straighten your arms. 4️⃣ Press ups using a block at the crown of my head, tuck jumps, and middle of the room play. .. . #hs4beginners DAY 6 Getting up there.... Ok so there are 2 schools of thought on kicking up to handstand; they are - the camp that just kicks up with fingers and toes crossed saying a few prayers and hoping against all hope that they'll stick it first time and then there are those that believe control and perfect alignment is the correct approach. I believe there is absolutely no such thing as the right or wrong way. The right way is the way that you are most comfortable with. My preference if I could start all over again would be to learn to press before I could handstand. But most of us feel this approach is impossible to begin with. To be fair, kicking up 400 times a day, whether you stick it or not is going to build some serious strength so there are pros and cons for every method you try. My advice is to play with lots of variations so you dont get complacent. 😉 My fav approach (Slide 2) is the straight leg at the top and kick/tap the opposite heel to the butt. Notice how your lower back reacts. Dont allow it to sink or drop as you kick. Focus on lifting from the hips and stacking the pelvis over the hands. #HoHoExpress • Day 1 Weight transfer! ... ummmm Wondering how this applies? 🤔 Good! Ask all the questions. We walk transferring weight from one foot to the other, look how long it took to get that coordinated. How can you work on smoothing the transfer of weight from feet to hands? What subtleties can you feel in the transition? Don’t forget to work in the opposite direction! ⬅️➡️🔄 Maybe... you work on spinal rolls in downdog, using the toes and core to draw weight back into the feet and push into the toes to draw weight over top of the wrists. Forward fold and walk the hands forward to downdog and reverse. Tiptoe from down dog to a forward fold and back... like a little sneaking into Mom and Dad’s closest in search of presents - no I’ve never done that. 😬🎁🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ve also shown some foreword fold inchworms, standing split inchworms, crow walks - maybe add lifting the hips higher and land into a forward fold. The first option is starting in downward dog and tiptoeing your way to your wrists and back to DD. Next you have forward fold inchworms! Again, transferring weight to be the primary goal.
