*HANDSTAND TUCK JUMP* . . #angelasyogatutorials . . I got some great feedback on the under-ten-minute handstand practice I posted on @playbook_app so I posted another 10 minute Tuck Handstand practice! Spoiler 🚨 Alert: We do this drill 🥰 Get your first week for FREE! Click the link in my bio 👆 . . This drill is to help you find balance while also helping you to stretch your shoulders, back and improve your ankle mobility. . 🤸‍♀️Grab a block and place it over your belly button like it is a big ol belt buckle. Then squish it between your belly button and your thighs. To hold it there you will need to shorten up your downward facing dog a bit. Spread your shoulder blades and press into your palms. Tilt your sitting bones up as if you had a tail feather that you were lifting up. Then keeping your knees bent and hips lifted, inhale and on the exhale lift your heels and come up high onto the balls of your feet. Try that several times, inhaling and as you exhale lifting onto the balls of your feet. Make sure you didn’t straighten your legs all the way or allow your hips to drop as you lifted and lowered your heels. . 🤸‍♀️Notice that when you lift onto the balls of your feet your weight shifts into your hands. Now set your block/massive belt buckle off to the side. Press into your palms grounding through your knuckles and fingertips. Keep your arms straight by squeezing your triceps and forearms into the midline. Then inhale and at the bottom of your exhale jump up off the balls of your feet and kick your heels towards your bottom as you pull your knees to your chest. Try recreate the squeeze feeling you had of holding the block between your thighs and your chest by drawing your thighs towards your belly as you kick your heels to your butt. #ResolutionHandstand2019 Day 7 Shape: #TeaPotLegs Drill: #WallHold ⠀ Tomorrow’s drill is a one minute #handstand hold against the wall, but really we are just asking you to work on endurance...that might mean 10 seconds, or 10 minutes...depends on YOU. Listen to your body and simply hold for as long as you comfortably can. ⠀ Consciously work on taking the majority of the weight on your hands into the base of your pointer fingers...and try shifting the weight around in your hands during the wall hold....over onto your finger tips, back to the heels...etc. ⠀ That muscle memory might help you find balance when you’re away from the wall...if you’re ready to come off the wall for some teapot play. You might surprise yourself and find some hang time here. It's easy to look at your own handstand line and find f

Handstand Line It's easy to look at your own handstand line and find faults. Banana back, non-pointed toes, head sticking out, butt sticking out, no cat etc. But knowing how to fix it all is not always so obvious. A common problem is trying to tuck your butt (posterior pelvic tilt) without changing anything else. The result is that you end up in too hollow a position and usually lose balance. When I am working on a student's line I always try and fix overhead and rib position before anything else. In the second example in the video all I am doing is pulling my ribs down and stacking them over my shoulders. When I do this I think about pulling my ribs towards my spine. I am not trying to adjust my lower back or pelvis at all. But you can clearly see that the upper body fix changes what is going on in the rest of my body. The banana and pelvic tilt are no longer an issue. You can practice the same thing in a chest to wall handstand. Here focus on keeping your shoulders stacked directly above your hands, pushing down and them pulling your ribs in so that they are stacked above your shoulders. Note: If your flexibility sucks and you can't get into this position standing on your feet do not expect to be able to get into this position upside down. #handstandline #iamabanana #ribsdown #onlinecoaching

Thanks to @bohemicaa and @sylph.lola for post suggestion! 💕 . 🌷 To enter and hold a handstand, you need sufficient shoulder strength and stability. At the same time, you need enough mobility in shoulders to get your arms overhead. ❤ . ⚘ DRILLS 1. Drill 1 is simply holding an inverted L at the wall. Focus on not allowing your elbows to flare out. Try to really straighten your arms and hug shoulders in. If this is too difficult, walk your legs up the wall more to take weight off the shoulders and do yoyr holds there. 2. Drill 2 helps with strength and mobility. As with Drill 1, place legs up higher on wall and do the drill from there if you don't have the strength to hold the L shape yet. 3. ・・・ *PRESS HANDSTAND DRILL FOR STRENGTH AND COMPRESSION* . . #angelasyogatutorials (my tutorials in one place. 👆👆👆) . . In yoga we frequently use the word "compression" in a negative context. We think of compressing the spine when we have bad posture ect. However when it comes to a press handstand, compression is a GOOD thing, in fact, the ability to compress your body is one of the key things if you want to put less stress on your joints. So what is compression? The ability to fold your body using active flexibility and strength. Passive stretching is useful, but only to a certain extent as the press handstand requires that we maintain strength at the end range of our mobility. 😅 . . So here is a excellent drill to work on both your strength and active flexibility! I've done this without my @brentwoodhome meditation cushion, but adding it definitely kicked things up a notch and made it feel closer to a true press! Yay! 🙌 . . Be sure to warm up your wrists FIRST! (Check out my tutorials if you need help) . . 🙌I like to start in tabletop and set up my hands shoulder distance apart. Shoulder spread, triceps firm, hands evenly placed. . . 🙌Climb your feet up the wall until you create a 90 degree angle with your body (more or less) Bend your left knee and place your right foot onto your cushion/pillow. Take a deep inhale and as you exhale draw your navel in and up and knit your front ribs together as you press your foot into the cushion and try to slide it to your right wrist. Inhale and exhale slide the cushion to your left wrist. Try to keep your right leg as straight as possible. Engage your right quad by squeezing and lifting your kneecap up. Remember to exhale FULLY, this will help a lot! . . 🙌Don't worry if you don't get anywhere near your wrists at first. Maintain a strong press down into both hands and shoulders squared towards the wall the whole time, don't allow them to twist as you take your foot to the opposite wrist. . . 🙌Repeat on the second side. . No.21 Pole handstand. You can practice your normal handstand entry aiming for the pole which is a little harder than the wall and teaches more control. Still not ready to take my handstand to chinstand but do like the transition from handstand to ekapadakoundinyasana2 then to chinstand and think this is the cleanest one I’ve had. Also posting one where I touched down a little with my chin first. Also trying to work on my scorpion in chinstand. And for #canesfebruary with Kasia @aerial_delights was inspired to work on straight up handstand and finally found my straight line handstand and held for about 40 seconds. This has been my worst shape on canes so was pleased with the progress. Also tried lotus, stag, and stag switches which are all more comfortable for me. Finally was inspired by the lovely and amazing Becca @bowlingandyoga to revisit handstand to sidecrow to epk1 to epk2. I tried just handstand to epk1 but it seemed really impossible. The first five seconds here I’m suspended in uncertainty - it’s a strange feeling, waiting for your body to kick the necessary parts into action and pull through. 🤸🏻‍♀️ When I used to rock climb more, it was kind of like the space between deciding to make a move and actually successfully making it. 🧗‍♀️ Anyways, I’m moving into a new space sometime before 2/28, and feeling a bit of that suspended-uncertain feeling in my body AND brain with regards to actually getting it done, but.... we shall pull through.

Day 50 of #365handstand2019 . Just because i am out of your site.....doesn’t mean handstands are out of my mind. . Still practicing every day.....seriously, I am, but I don’t want to bore you with the barely perceivable progress. . Thanks goodness Ray gave me permission to keep using Paul the Wall. We have become very close. . But I will share these drills: . Stretch and Strength. . 30 hamstring pulses - 3 rounds using different ferry positions. . Parallel feet, Toes out, Toes in. . Forearm wall plank. . Straight arm wall plank. . Knee to elbow - hold 5 seconds. Wall plank. . I actually am holding my handstand a bit longer without the wall. Or maybe it’s wishful thinking. . @raymurse_yoga . My goals: as a daily reminder: . 1. Better shoulder and hamstring mobility so I can one day press into a handstand. 2. Open the hips and strengthen the hips so again.....get that press. 3. Get over my fear and learn how to kick up away from the wall. Learn how to fall. 4. Be able to do a handstand in the middle of the room 5. Hold the handstand long enough for it to look like a handstand 6. And if I am going for broke here.......press into a handstand

Calling on any of my bendy scorpion loving friends for advice. One of my main goals last year was to learn to scorpion and clearly that didn’t happen at all. Nor have I really been working on it so not surprising. I think my problem is that I can’t get my feet close to my head in cobra. My cobra basically looks exactly like my scorpion and both take a lot of effort. Also my scorpion seems to be stuck at the same point regardless whether I do a chinstand, pincha, or handstand. So if anyone has any advice; I think the real advice I need is what poses can help me work on a better cobra. Once I get my cobra, I’m assuming I’ll be able to scorpion? Is that how it’s worked for others? Basically I can’t get my feet to my head at all except in kapo. showing some other scorpion variations I worked on. . . . . .
