Late post as I had an interview this morning and have been preparing the last couple of evenings! But I will catch up! Day 5 of #holdthathandstand is tuck which is my most stable handstand variation! This is the first time I've ever tried tuck handstands with the legs compressed against the abdomen, rather than tilting the hips with the legs up. How much should you tilt in a one arm handstand? Generally you will need some amount of body tilt in order to be able to balance on one arm. The preferred technique in many cases is to try to minimize the amount of tilt and stay as upright as possible. This offers cleaner lines and a more mechanically stable position. It's not the only way to do it though; my second position in this video demonstrates another option. The legs tilt further over the side and to hold the position I compensate with my shoulder and head placement. Is this form wrong? Some might think so, while others might be impressed that I am balancing myself on one arm. It's all about your perspective. While this position is generally heavier to hold, some people may find it easier to develop the sensation of balance due to lower center of mass. Ultimately I like the idea of knowing how to create the structure, break it down, and build it back up. This builds a wider range of control and appreciation for the technique. How is your tilt control in your OAH progressions? It's a bit of an obscure subject so hopefully this helps a few people understand the concept better. I cartwheel out but that seems to feel jerky on my shoulder and I try to go to both sides but the left is my go to. So I am trying to bail out in wheel these days.
