I saw that @emmetlouis got a front splits video on YouTube and pop corn was on for 30min!!! Here's a variation on the front lunge with some ballistics. Emmet says there will be DOMS...that is an understatement!!!! . The most important cue for me was definitely rotating and pulling the femur into the hip. Years of the opposite have had their toll on my piriformis. Find a plan that works for you, and do it often. It’s great to get guidance by attending a class or working with a coach, but if you don’t follow that up with focused work on your own, you’re unlikely to make much progress. ## 👉🏼 This is what my Holiday Handstand Challenge is all about! Start practicing consistently; it doesn’t have to be every day, but as often as your body allows. Make a commitment to your practice, and see how much it changes in just 31 days. ## 👉🏼 It’s not too late to join the challenge - and it’s completely FREE to participate! Türchen Nr. 9: Je fortgeschrittener man im Handstand wird, desto wichtiger wird auch die Mobility im Unterkörper (Pancake, Splits etc.). Gerade beim Press to Handstand ist der Pancake sehr entscheidend. Aber auch in anderen Bereichen war man wohl schon mal an dem Punkt, dass man eine Übung nur schwer bzw. gar nicht, aufgrund mangelnder Beweglichkeit, ausführen konnte (Overheadsquat lässt grüßen..🧐..). Deswegen sollte Beweglichkeits- bzw. Mobilitytraining auch immer Teil deines Trainings sein. Laut einer bekannten Definition von Mobility, ist sie die Summe aus Beweglichkeit und Kraft, d.h. du solltest aktiv (!) über eine große ROM (Range of Motion) verfügen. Passiv sehr beweglich zu sein bildet das Extrem auf der einen, Steifheit das Extrem auf der anderen Seite. Extreme Sind in den meisten Fällen nicht gut... Unser Körper strebt stets nach Homöostase, nach Yin und Yang, nach Gleichgewicht..🧘🏽‍♂️🧘‍♀️☯️ Doch welche Methode ist nun die „Beste“ um beweglich zu werden? Ein allgemeingültig Antwort kann man dabei nicht treffen. Eine Methode, die mir sehr geholfen hat, ist Contract-Relax. Am Beispiel vom Pancake bedeutet das: Ich gehe in eine tiefe Pancakeposition, drücke die Fersen für 10s stark in den Boden, hole tief Luft und sinke mit der Ausatmung tiefer in den Pancake, bleibe dort für 40s und drücke danach die Fersen wieder für 10s in den Boden usw. Das machst du für 3-4 Wiederholungen (im Video sind die Zeiten verkürzt..😉)❗️ Aber auch langes Halten einer Position hat seine Vorteile, z.B. hilft es deinem Nervensystem runterzukommen, daher mag ich diese Methode am Abend nach einem stressigen Tag oder auch mal nach dem Training. Du merkst also es gibt keine Patentrezept, sondern es ist immer individuell zu betrachten. Finde eine Methode, die dir hilft und bleibe dieser treu. Seine Mobility zu verbessern dauert eine lange Zeit. Erwarte also keine Wunder, wenn du 10min pro Woche in dein Mobilitytraining investierst. Wenn du aktuell am Press to Handstand arbeitest, solltest du auch unbedingt an deinem Pancake arbeiten, denn mehr Beweglichkeit ist dabei super hilfreich!

I’ve been in a pretty good head space lately so I wanted to put pen to paper on this to remind myself of this whenever times get tough. After my last episode of tears and realizations, I’ve made some changes to my mindset and physical practices, which made huge differences. Instead of always letting my emotions guide my actions, I decided to make first things first and create unshakable habits that bring me closer to my goals. Being spontaneous is sometimes good, but based on my history, I really do thrive on structure and will likely fall apart without it. (I’m a Vata in Ayurveda and I tend to be quite airy and must be grounded or else) Beyond controlling my thoughts, my body seems like it is starting to work with instead of against me now, finally (knock on wood). It doesn’t come as a surprise, cuz physical pain is strongly tied to the emotions, and you can’t heal one without the other. Anyway, I know that everything comes in phases and I’m just super grateful for right now, right now. And I CAN’T WAIT to go home for Xmas! Last year’s was spent all alone in a foreign place with no direction in anything in my life. But I’m honestly so grateful for having been through all of that 💫 🌊 🎄 Also, here’s a wide handstand that I’d never thought in a million years I’d be able to do let alone not face plant, sooo yeahh 🤗
