Why do I practice Yoga??⁣ ⁣ ...To move the energy in my body, make connections, get stronger on all levels⁣ ⁣ 1) Rooting down through tops of feet, shins, knees evenly then rising up preparing for upper body extension, fixing clothes ;)⁣ ⁣ 2) Open heart, align, breathe and soften, rise up, lengthen...observe sensations ⁣ ⁣ 3) Lengthen up to create space in vertebrae, continue to root down, slight tuck of pelvis, arch back, breathe deep, be strong and soft, OPEN FRONT BODY and all corresponding energy center (chakras)⁣ ⁣ 4) Root down. Rise up. Breathe. Strong. Soft. ♥️Keep grounding down through root chakra, safe to be who I am⁣ 🧡Open to creativity and sensuality through sacral chakra⁣ 💛Solar plexus open and flowing to continue to stand in my power, aligning w my gifts⁣ 💚Heart shining open, despite hurt and transient sadness of grief⁣ 💙Throat chakra open on all sides...speaking truths moving forward in life and aware of all the times in the past when I was silenced⁣ 💜Third eye point soft, tuned into intuition and guidance from a force bigger than anything in the physical realm⁣ ⁣ 5) Check in w my heart...beating-pumping my blood through this body-keeping me alive!!, the resonance of the opening and movement of energy, observe, breathe, be here now⁣ ⁣ 6) Return home to self. All attention turned inward. I am safe. I am strong. What's your pose you feel like you constantly work on and you don't see any "real" progress? I decided to join a sweet'n short 6-Day-Challenge to get more balanced in my wheel pose. ⠀ DAY 1 (Thursday) of the #4WHEELchallenge Lara kicked off with some nice (and surprising) moves. She focuses on "1) mobilizing the HIPS to create more length and space in the anterior hip and 2) firing up the hip muscles for the base of our backbend. Working on glute activation in hip extension with the neutral pelvis will create the desired foundation for a satisfying spinal extension. The wall and your hands help with feedback to stay strong and spacious"💪🏼. ⠀ Often enough we mix up "real" and "fast". "Real" Progress is not necessarily "fast" progress, right? What is easy and quick for one is hard and a long-term if not a lifetime challenge. For me that is everything backbendy and hipmobility-related. I am thankful for the hostesses who will provide us with instruction, drills, and tips to work on it. ⠀ I had to rearrange my tiny yoga space in the room to have two walls to film these moves from the side. STEP THROUGH WARM UP I use the #stepthrough a lot as a beginner coordination drill and then as a warm up with clients. It's a great full body exercise. It's a good stand alone exercise to get you out of breath, or great for coordination and control if done slowly. Here you've got the basic step through and then I combined it with a front body opener - just for fun. Felt bloody brilliant. Which makes sense cause that’s what you’re leading with in the world- the front of your body. Plus so many of us have anxiety specifically around our stomachs (👋🏼). Ashtangi paradise! 😍 . I can't think of a better way to stretch out the front body after so much folding in the Primary Series. I find back bending especially demanding as my body is used to going the other way. In Saddle we open the tight pecs and hip flexors and let the traps, rhomboids and deltoids relax and release after all those Chatutangas. As I said in our class last night, take time to notice/ study if your shoulders are open or closed as you mindfully find high plank and lower to Chaturanga/ half Chaturanga ( knees down) it's gonna make you a whole lot happier! We live and learn though! Each time you practise there is a new bubble of insight or a-ha moment! Practise makes perfect! From now on forget the soya flat whites! Deepen your backbends using the whole spine supporting the lower back. We will open the front side of the body first through yin poses and the Dharma sequence. Then move to the wall to break down and deepen those tricky backbending inversions, if you are ready also playing around with walkovers, for fun we will partner up and help each other into supported backbends and forward folds to release the spine once again.
