SBD last nite, 8/2. . Another Late Nite session. Back to back Squat and bench (took Sat off so did SB on Sun). Awful Squat, surprisingly smooth bench and a tiny bit of light volume on deads. . 😦 last warmup 325x1 then 335x1 top single on squat. (Top single @ 335-365) BTB squat, warmups felt great til 280x1. 280&300 felt heavy, 315 felt really heavy, legs suddenly shut down (could be SBD knee sleeves too tight). Almost put 335 on the bar, thought abt just get it and move on to bench. But I was scared I might fail 325 so took 325x1 as last warmup. 325 felt heavy as hell, single felt high but looked parallel on VID. Slow but smooth. Minor hip shooting. Took 335x1 for top single, aggressive but control descent, really tried to hit depth. Also naturally leaned forward b4 squat to activate my back. Way below parallel, probably too low. Super duper slow, minor hip shoot and upperback rounding. . 😁 220x1 then 225x1 on bench top singles. (Top single @ 220-245) Smooth bench, quite surprised bcos its BTB. Minor weight shift to the right on 225x1, right elbow locked out slightly later. Conservative singles, butt on and everything else looks fine. . 😁 354x8 on deads. (1x8@ 345-385) Worked on form esp. hip position, back angle (more vertical) and leg drive. Deadlifts! My lovely Client @jd9498 and I have been working hard on her range of motion and scapular control in order to be able to deadlift safely from the ground up. Here she is killing a quick set focussing on keeping her hips back, chest forward and knees driving out slightly so her glutes support the lift and take some pressure away from her back :) She did so great yesterday, and we also did a class at Les mills today, she's always improving :) Been so lovely working with you Jourdain! First day back with my man @luminouswarrior_1111 after his surgery and my form is lookin iffy uh! *6ix9ine voice* 😂😂😂 After reviewing these videos, gotta get back to turning my hips on my kicks more, bring it straight back after the roundhouse instead of bending it, and keeping my guard, especially on my switch kick and left hook. Took a weak off to heal some nagging injuries, and my conditioning started to tank the bucket lol. This is a lift I’m really keen to work on and perfect before I start pushing my weight I love practicing form on Sundays because the gym is mostly empty, I can film and watch each set and then make corrections for the next set ✔️ Here are a few things I’m focusing on at the moment: 👏🏻Keeping my back straight by engaging my lats and duck my tailbone . 👏🏻Keep the bar in line with my mid foot . 👏🏻Placing my hands directly outside my feet . 👏🏻Lifting the car in a straight vertical line . 👏🏻Planting my feet and pushing straight through . 👏🏻Practising a Romanian deadlift like lowering of the bar until past the knees then lowering straight down - Do you enjoy or practise deadlifts? Here is an older video of mine, performing the Fighting Rooster Form of our Xingyi Quan System. The group of Xingyi Quan practitioners worldwide is one of the strangest. There are wild discussions about heritage, about wrongs and rights, tradition and what not. It seems, everybody is fighting everybody. Of course only with words... like usually. I completely ignore all those discussions, and I find martial history (or fake stories) to be among the most boring topics of all. Xingyi Quan definitely belongs to the group of martial arts, where traditionalists will tell you that you need at LEAST a lifetime to understand it, if at all. And that any approach to learn it faster will be doomed. I always wonder... what a shitty martial art will only make you better after 5 decades of practice. I would call this a complete FAIL! So, what is there to learn from this form? Well, first of all it should resemble the fighting spirit of a Rooster. Sharp and aggresive. Quick and precise movement, fast change of directions. Combined with an intense forward focus this form feels like a thunderstorm on the inside. Practice this one 10 times in a row and you will probably eat yourself through a wall... Forms are only a platform for development. We need to ask WHY we should practice it. What is there to learn apart from the obvious physical movement. You want to get your focus straight... try this one! And please don't argue about technical stuff, alright?!
