“Don’t get through it, get from it.” - Martin Rooney ⠀ ⠀ If you treat every training session like game day, when do you actually train? ⠀ ⠀ In a culture that promotes the more calories burned the better, actual training can get lost in the mix. Active recovery, or recovery in general, is almost scoffed at and feeling tired is held at a premium. ⠀ ⠀ Tonight’s training had a RECOVERY walk after each round, here’s what I noticed...⠀ ⠀ ■ My tempo stayed consistent even though it was thoroughly challenging. I was able to regulate my heart rate more effectively between rounds. ⠀ ■ My form stayed clean and crisp. ⠀ ■ When my mind would drift and lose focus it allowed me a chance lock back into the task at hand. ⠀ ■ It allowed me time to give my fellow WARRIORS high fives and encouragement. Oh boy. I sometimes am amazed when people come back for classes given it’s like the worst forced stand up comedy act they could possibly endure! My jokes 🤦🏽‍♀️ - It also makes class fun and not so serious while still getting a kick ass workout in. - Since it was a bit chilly and the ground was cold, I made a game time decision to do some core work on the #strongboardbalance instead of being on the cold concrete. - And these two were like energizer 🐰 🐰! One week until Thanksgiving!!! Personally, I’m in some need of major calorie burn! For the last five days my workouts have consisted of slow walks, scenic rides on my peloton or just a little bit of strength work since I’ve been under the weather. I’m a cardio girl and I need my cardio! Now that I’m feeling better I’m going to make sure that I can fit in extra calorie burn by doing HITT (High intensity interval training) whenever I can. Here’s an easy four part workout where you just rotate from one move to another and time them as you like. I would suggest no less than 20 seconds and no more than one minute per move, but you can rotate through the series as much as you can tolerate. Make sure form stays strong: keep front knee over ankle in the lunge jumps (1st move), weight in heels during squat jumps (3rd move) and long spine-no butt in air- on mountain climbers (last move). You’ll also have to remember to switch sides each round on the oblique crunch (2nd move). Take a 10 second break between each move or up to a 30 second break if doing one minute intervals. TECHNIQUE TIP TUESDAY- Proper range of motion during lunges in Empower 🚨 When lunging with one foot on the platform, work to maintain strong form - 90-degree bends in both knees, shoulders stacked over the hips, a neutral spine, and the ball of the back foot pressing into the carpet. If the platform distracts you from working in your best form, feel free to step both feet onto the carpet! It’s also an option to use smaller ranges of motion as you’re building both strength and endurance. More inner thighs!!!! And pulsing ;) Elevated Sumo squat (toes out knees out wide) with 3 pulses at the bottom. Try not to pause at top of motion so your legs can stay under constant tension. Make sure your back never hinges forward, sit on top of your hips the entire motion while keeping your head up and chest out! Do 5 sets of 15 with 3 pulses at bottom and no rest at top...
