It’s a balancing act... Im struggling every day.... the difference between “skinny” and “fit”. I USED TO way almost 300 lbs...and I USED TO weigh 138....now I sit at 153-155 wondering where I went wrong. I’m eating well, lifting, and working out 3-5 days a week. The thing is...IM wrong. At 138 I had just gotten out of the hospital VERY sick. I couldn’t work out at all and I lost a ton of muscle. I was deteriorating and people said I looked like death. But in MY HEAD I’m supposed to be 120... so the scale and I are NOT FRIENDS. I’ve been told to throw it out, but it keeps sneaking it’s way back. I have a LOT of extra skin, but making healthy choices atleast makes me FEEL in charge. If you struggle with the person in the mirror, be encouraged that you are NOT alone. We as a society are changing what “healthy” looks like. 🍔 Kidney bean + broccoli burgers recipe 🍔 Today I was inspired by @filipappedrosa and made this super quick oil free burgers in the oven, with cauliflower and potato mash and some green beans on the side. . Ingredients: 🌱 1 can of kidney beans (250g). 🌱 80g oats. 🌱 80g raw broccoli stalk. 🌱 1 tsp flaxmeal. 🌱 1 tsp garlic powder. 🌱 1 tsp paprika. 🌱 1/2 cayenne pepper. 🌱 Dash of black pepper. 🌱 Tiny bit of cumin. 🌱 Salt to taste. . Preparation: 🌱 Preheat oven to 190°C. 🌱 Mix everything with one tablespoon of water and blend in a high-speed blender. 🌱 Make 6 patties. 🌱 Put in the oven for about 30min (turn them upside down halfway). . Now, before people comment on the lack of certain food items, keep in mind I wanted to make these foods more snack-like items as I feel there is a lack of posts on muscle building snacks. Ideally, the best foods are those that are both nutrient and caloire-dense as we need to intake enough calories, preferably in a slight surplus of calories, to support protein synthesis. Some of the best foods include: bananas (super convenient and high in calories and carbs. Make for a good post workout snack), cashews (high in calories, but also healthy fats and protein. I've been having about 1/4 cup as a snack for the last few weeks, making it easy to get additional calories in), fruit (probably the best pre and post-workout food as it is high in healthy sugars to help fuel your workout, but also replenish your glycogen stores post-workout), peanut butter (aside from being the most delicious food on the planet, it is also one of the best mass builders due to its caloric load per serving), protein shakes (if needed, an additional protein bump could serve you well to support protein synthesis . Shakes are a convenient way to get your protein in), and coffee (though there is no caloric benefit, there are certainly performance benefits when taken pre-workout).
