💥HOW MANY REPS?💥 . The age old question of how many reps you should be doing...Well based on the majority of studies, lower weight and higher reps trains muscles to be more ENDURANT, medium reps and medium weight ➡️to be BIGGER and low rep ranges with heavy weight➡️ STRONGER. . The thing is that all of this occurs over a spectrum. The number of reps and results kind of blend together. For example, even at a higher rep range, you’re still going to be making your muscles stronger. On the illustration above, the larger the font of the goal, the more of the focus is at that range. A lot of genetic variability can affect this, as well. Pick a rep range within the area of your primary goal. . I say pick a range because you shouldn’t just be doing 3 sets of 10 over and over. If you can do that then mission accomplished, increase the weight next time. Maybe you’ll get 10 reps, then 9 reps and then 8. Perfect. Keep going until you’re at 3 x 10 again and increase again! The rep range here would be 8-10 . Don’t be afraid to work outside of the “ideal” rep range for your goal. It’s good to train your muscles at different rep schemes . Had this conversation with someone the other day! Make sure that you have realistic expectations. Fluctuations are normal! ⠀ .⠀ 😭It can be the worst feeling in the world to step on the scale and not see the the number that you are hoping for.⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ 😣 Difficult conversations for a coach occur after someone has been demoralized by the scale.⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ Don't let the scale win! Negativity from the scale has a way of festering and growing. It impacts your workouts. It impacts your food choices.⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ 🤓But fear not! There are a lot of reasons that the numbers might fluctuate. Just because your weight is a few pounds more than usual, it doesn’t mean that you have gained fat.⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ 🤯This is one of the main reasons that I highly recommend NOT weighing yourself ever single day.⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ 👍🏻Weighing yourself once a week is plenty and will more accurately record your journey.⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ 💪🏻Spend your time focusing on your daily process and NOT your daily results.⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ The Bottom Line ✅: don't let your daily and weekly fluctuations in body weight discourage you. Do you own your food or does your food own you? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love food. I don’t avoid any certain foods for fear of gaining weight. I just eat food differently than I used to. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I own my food. I know that I can eat whatever I want when I want it. I choose to eat what’s going to make me happy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If I say I am going to eat 2 pieces of candy then I eat 2 pieces of candy. If I later decide I want 3 then I eat 3 because I want to not because I can’t stop myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don’t keep eating and eating candy until I feel sick because of not being able to control myself. My food does not own me. I own my food. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I remember sitting in my fifth grade class years ago after a class party. I put Pringle’s on the list because they were my favorite and we had tons left over. I would eat almost a whole can a day. That wasn’t my intent but it just happened because I couldn’t stop myself. My self control was level 0. I would feel sick after and like total crap. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now I truly enjoy my food because it doesn’t own me. I have the self control to stop when I want to stop.
