I’m officially starting my journey to a strict muscle-up! Time will tell whether I get a strict before a kipping one. Step one: working on false-grip pull-ups and false-grip hangs. I was really happy with how well my first time went because false grip is really (really!!!) hard on the wrists. Yesterday I tried some banded strict muscle ups, trying to memorize the movement pattern. Ended with a 3 rm clean at 135, after my 1 rm of 150 last weekend. Getting stronger💪💪

Our brains crave movement complexity. ___ Once you develop the awareness, strength, mobility and understanding of how to complete one movement, there are so many interesting ways to link different moves together. Figuring it out becomes a puzzle! Completion of the puzzle demands more strength, increased range of motion, deeper neuromuscular connection, more proprioception and importantly, adoption of the beginner mindset (shoshin). ___ This isn't the most complex ring flow ever by any standards, but it's more complex than it used to be. And I'm addicted to the process of uncovering deeper layers and seeing what else might be possible! ___ Orientate yourself toward movement complexity and step into the rabbit hole!

I've always preferred the bar to the rings, reason being my false grip is as weak af and rather than do something about I left it. That has all changed in the last couple of weeks and I will no longer be avoiding the rings or false grip training, already starting to see the difference. The muscle up is very difficult with a false grip and nearly impossible without it. The false grip is very helpful when performing strict muscle ups without kipping or swinging. If the hands aren’t on top of the bar at the end of the pull-up you won’t be in position to finish the dip.
