Did you know people with Rheumatoid Arthritis are more than twice as likely to suffer from depression as those without the disease? Are you aware that exercising for 30 minutes a day 3-5 days a week is shown to significantly reduce anxiety or depression symptoms? I don’t talk much about the mental and emotional challenges I face with this disease. But the struggles are there. Particularly during severe flares when my exercise is reduced or limited. It is difficult to get out of bed. I fall into the “why me?” trap. I get sad and angry and sometimes resentful. When it hurts too much I go on a walk or just swim easy in the pool. I find a way to get moving. And it keeps me sane. I wish doctors would prescribe exercise more often. Exercise releases feel good endorphins, it is a healthy coping strategy, it can take your mind off your pain or worries, it can provide social interaction, it can improve your confidence. Running and triathlon are how I cope with depression. If you are suffering please reach out to a loved one or doctor. 👉Before you begin tackling your Ab training, the first question you should be asking yourself is in regards to the quality of your nutrition. Regardless of how many sets, reps and variations of ab exercises you perform, your abs will simply never shine through if your body fat % is not low enough. Your nutrition will provide you with something that no amount of cardio or weightlifting could provide you with. It’s an invaluable part of the bodybuilding process. Once you’ve got that on track you can then begin to focus your attention onto developing the muscles within your abdomen. This is where a lot of people can mess up. It’s a common practice of many gym goers to skip abs and then pin it on the idea that “abs are made in the kitchen”. While this is partly true, if you can not even perform one strict hanging leg raise, the chances are your efforts within the kitchen will be futile. Exercises like dragon flag (example in video) are a great way to build up the strength and size within your mid section. Which is absolutely crucial for getting your abs to truely pop! Leave the kitchen for chicken breast and frosty flakes... build your abs in the gym 💪 #MadeInTheGym #RevealedInTheKitchen

I didn’t push myself like crazy mainly because I noticed I wasn’t sweating...normally I’m nasty... so I take it I’m still pretty dehydrated. But I did some #legday with body weight & #abs and lots of stretching! Slowly but surely working it all back in. Might not have been the craziest 45 minutes, but hey, I went when I could have gone to bed. So there that! #imfixingme

I had to learn this the hard way 😑 after years of doing this incorrectly, like the picture on the bottom, I started experiencing terrible low back pain for a few months, till I went to see a physical therapist. During therapy, guess what he had me do... This pose right here! Only he fixed my posture and I realized that a therapeutic pose can be detrimental if not done correctly. . Learning how to "brace the core" has helped relieve my low back pain! I instruct this posture in almost every yoga class I teach, because it really is so beneficial to our stabilizer muscles. But you will notice I'm a stickler for form! Also allowed me to work with you this past summer & forever grateful for that opportunity. @6foot6figures , we go back to high school, but that day you DM’d me on IG to come lift & hoop when I was at a low point in life & been tight since. & @ben_shaw_ , after a road game in college, you told me to come to the gym with you, & gave me the intro to bodybuilding. 💕LADIES, this post is for YOU!💕 Aunt Flo is in town, if you know what I mean, and I feel unmotivated and bloated. These monthly visits from her are very painful and super draining. I wanted to share a few things that I do to make her more bearable: 1. Keep active! Try to get a short workout in either at home or at the gym 2. Get some fresh air! (a little sunshine if possible) 3. Drink a lot of water and stay away from junk food! (I definitely eat my share of dark chocolate & cheese puffs, but I try to avoid overindulging in snacks and treats as doing so often makes my cramps worse and increases bloating) 4. Take medication. I am not about to curl up into a ball all week while enduring what feels like a monster trying to claw its way out of me! (If you prefer to stick with the all-natural approach, there are AMAZING essential oils that can really help a lot as well) 5. Find time to REST! It is necessary to allow the body to recuperate from all that is going on inside. I know these tips probably all seem like common sense, but for me, it is always nice to be reminded. Also, I really just didn’t want this subject to be “hushed” anymore. I mean, c’mon, a good chunk of the female population is literally going through exactly what I am going through today! I don’t want to pretend like I don’t feel this way 12 times a year. It is normal, God created my body to function this way, and ladies, we should feel like we can share our experiences with each other. So, if you ever want to have “real talk,” hit me up, I am an open book!

#throwbackthursday SWIPE LEFT ⬅⬅ 3 years ago. Cruise to Aruba. Size = Circus Tent. Weight 404. No excursions. No swimming at any beaches. No unnecessary walking....except repeatedly to the buffet. Back, knee and hip pain. Never got in a bathing suit. Never got in the pool. Kept to myself. This week. Cruise to Cuba. Size 12/14. Weight 230. 3 hour walking tour of the Keys including 1.5 hours standing in the butterfly pavilion. 5 hours walking in Cuba plus a classic car ride tour. Swam daily. Work no skirt on my bathing suit. Went down ever water slide like a boss. Ate at the buffet ONCE the entire 4 days. Chose to be served portioned meals in the formal dining instead. Talked with everyone. Never felt pain once.... EXCEPT THAT ONE TIME IN CUBA....when an old, white van backed into me and knocked me down! Yes this really happened. Yes I'm totally fine. Do I look better????...Yes. To societies standard of what's attractive...yea I guess so. Do I feel better??? Now that's the better question. I feel more alive and happy than ever in my life. But what about flexible workouts🤔?... ———————————————————————— ▪️When you’re following a nutrition program, especially if you’re my client, I encourage flexibility within your daily food choices. Eat the stuff that makes you feel good, but switch it up once and w while, have room to enjoy a special occasion, etc. The last thing you want is to become spiteful with your nutrition plan and feel restricted...NO BUENO! ———————————————————————— ▪️Similarly with your workout plan. It’s important to establish what’s good for you and what’s going to get you to your goals, but if your plan says leg day and all you want to do is get outside and move? (especially on a beautiful day Ike today👆🏼) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO LEGS! . Learn how to be flexible with your plan to get the most out of it. Feel more like going for a run? Pick a route with more hills, pause and throw in some walking lunges or crab walks, etc. The last thing ANYONE needs is a shitty leg day. Hit it hard when you’re due for legs next time. Regardless, it will not derail your progress. ———————————————————————— ▪️As always with whatever you do, make sure you’re properly warmed up, mobilized, and cool down. I was supposed to do legs today and really wanted to run. Listened to my body, beat my last 5 miler by 3 minutes. #Throwback to last weekend when I was swimming laps in the pool and relaxing in the sun. I have always been one of those people who would work their ass off (or more like try and add some booty 🍑😝) before a holiday to get that perfect bikini body, but then not do any exercise when I am on my holiday. Hence I would eat lots of yummy food, relax by the pool and come back a big blob 😑 So this was my first trip where I told myself enough is enough! I promised to be active and get my heart rate up everyday. It doesn't mean you have to go to the gym for hours everyday but make your exercises fun and incorporate them into your travel plans.
