Do you squat? ➖ Link in bio for yesterday’s NEW VIDEO 👉🏼 Only eating from a GAS STATION for 24 HOURS . . . . . . . . . . You may have seen from my stories and today’s horrific “lungeathon” workout that I have not squatted for a while now & I often get asked whether or not you HAVE to squat in order to maximise quad development and it may come as a surprise to you but the answer is NO 😱 ➖ Don’t get me wrong, squats are an extremely effective exercise for overall quad development, specifically heavy & deep as muscle activity has frequently shown to increase with increasing external loads (McCaw et al 1998, Boyden et al 2000, Pick et al 2000) & depths (Bloomquist et al 2013) however, they are not NECESSARY, as machines have shown to produce similar EMG activity, especially when relative loads are matched (Andersen et al 2006). In fact, (Ebben et al 2009) based purely off EMG data, some machines (extensions) have shown the greatest OVERALL quad activity (Ebben et al 2009) with other exercises such as step ups & lunges (as I discussed in my story) having also shown to elicit high quad & glute activity (Pincivero et al 2000) & actually OUTPERFORM the squat for vastus lateralis activity (Ebben et al 2009) meaning a lunge/step up could be a great substitution for squats ➖ Furthermore, by only squatting you may be surprised to hear that you WON’T maximise your leg growth as, when it comes to rectus femoris (one of the 4 muscles of the quads), due to aiding in BOTH knee ext. & hip flex., gets little activation in the squat due to the simultaneous hip & knee flex. involved thus by having more variety in your leg training (especially extensions) research shows that you can maximally stimulate RF & thus leg growth (Ema et al 2013) ➖ Now, in terms of strength development, if maximum strength is your focus, back squats have the most potential for overload as they aren’t limited by the amount that the machine goes up to thus for maximum strength development, yes, you ideally should squat but for hypertrophy, there is no reason to suggest you can’t build a great set of legs without them

Haven't been posting much so tired lately like a zombie one exhausted Mama 😴😴😴 Didn't have time to blow dry my hair after 6am gym session today...never do always rushing to make it to work. This nurse on duty was FREEZING this morning for real!!!!! My eyes were super dark almost grey this morning they tend to change with my mood. May have had a rough couple of days and been cranky and p***ed off .... Rear ended someone downtown and a cop was right behind me yesterday just my luck. Luckily no damage to either and everyone was okay barely hit the other car. I'm happy the cop let me go was literally crying 😥😥😥 My lunch today was so bomb lemon pepper herb and garlic chicken, baby carrots and a whole avacado (was hangry ate half then took pic lol). Only worked out 1 day on the weekend and it was 50 minutes on the elliptical and about 10 minutes of core. Also made a batch of Turkey taco meat with homemade seasoning recipe from dietdoctor.com It's my favourite throw away those crappy taco seasonings and make this one you will love it I promise. I triple the recipe and make a huge batch and store it in an air tight container. En un sarten pones una 🥄 de ghee, guisas ajo, cebolla y agregas la calabaza y esparrago, cuando esten ya blanditos, agregas arroz y el garbanzo, sal y pimienta. . . Para la salsa entomatada🍅 Se hierven dos tomates, y los pasas a la licuadora con un trozo de cebolla, 1 chipotle, 1 ajo, sal y pimienta.
