It’s good to cry. Far too often people try to hold back their tears however their is so many benefits to releasing your emotions. Crying releases toxins and relieves stress. When humans cry in response to stress, their tears contain a number of stress hormones and other chemicals. Work-life balance - Why its so important to keep your work life balance right. • The pressure of an increasingly demanding work culture in the UK is perhaps the biggest and most pressing challenge to the mental health of the general population. * One third of people feel unhappy or very unhappy about the time they devote to work. * More than 40% of employees are neglecting other aspects of their life because of work, which may increase their vulnerability to mental health problems * When working long hours more than a quarter of employees feel depressed (27%), one third feel anxious (34%), and more than half feel irritable (58%) The more hours you spend at work, the more hours outside of work you are likely to spend thinking or worrying about it * As a person's weekly hours increase, so do their feelings of unhappiness * Many more women report unhappiness than men (42% of women compared with 29% of men), which is probably a consequence of competing life roles and more pressure to 'juggle'. 35 years old today - As as suffer of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) since the age of 5, I’ve had a difficult relationship with my appearance for the majority of my life but today I can be grateful that I am lucky to look young for my age. At the age of 18 I sometimes couldn’t even leave my house due to the disorder being so bad which often resulted in not being able to attend my psychology lectures at university which could have cost me my future career. However today thanks to many years of my own self help, a good therapist, supportive loved ones and a group of very empathic friends I have a much healthier perception of my image. Body dysmorphic disorder, or body dysmorphia, is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others. This is the first post where I have self disclosed anything about my personal psychological health struggles due to the common message that therapists are given by their trainers, supervisors and peers not to self disclose. While I do agree that therapist shouldn’t talk about themselves in sessions as it’s their clients time with them, I do feel compelled to disclose issues that I’ve worked hard to overcome in order to help others. According to the artist, her postpartum depression was so bad she was afraid to have she was afraid to have another child because she doesn't want to go through it again. Numerous celebrities such as Angelina Jolie have spoken up on their experience battling mental issues such as depression. On November 2015, the actress talked about her battle with depression in an interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine in which she attributes the cause of her depression in part to her “unhealthy” hometown - Los Angeles. According to her, LA was a place where focus is very inward which led her to not appreciate or understand her life. She adds: "I was raised in a place where if you have fame and money and you’re decent-looking and have the ability to work in this industry, you have everything in the world. Then you attain those things and realize you still couldn’t be more empty. I didn’t know where to put myself.” The fact that stars like Jolie have experienced depression first-hand and are willing to talk about it publicly shows that there shouldn't be any stigma attached to mental issues. Why Is Hair so Important to Us? People’s eyes are directed toward the other's heads. The hair on that head (or the lack of it) becomes one of a person’s most prominent features. There is also a great deal of mythology surrounding blondes, redheads and those brunettes, based largely on which “have more fun.” Much of this stereotyping has been applied to women but, increasingly—it can affect men as well. You can alter your hair in a myriad of ways, limited only by your willingness to spend time and money on the project. Because it is so visible, though, hair also becomes a part of a person’s identity. It helps define the persona you aim to create to impress others, whether as an intellectual, a sexual being, a rebel, or some combination of the above. Hair can also influence the way you define yourself to yourself, as an extension of your identity. Unlike the features of your face and body that bear the stamp of time’s passage, your hair could theoretically remain unaltered for decades with relatively little effort. You can cover up the gray; you don’t need to give hair Botox to help it remain “young.” The idea that our hair can define us as young or old may be at the heart of our society’s current preoccupation with not only having a "good" hair day, but a hair day in which your tresses resemble those of a much younger person. It's possible that by manipulating the way your hair looks, you can manipulate your apparent age. Society pretty much says that older women have to disguise and keep in check their naturally graying hair. It's clear that older women are becoming more conscious of their appearance and more likely to spend money on maintaining it. They’re increasingly prey to advertisers who purvey products that will allow not only their hair, but their faces and bodies, to stay youthful. The next time you consider plopping down a chunk of hard-earned cash on the latest “miracle” age-reverser, pause and think about what it is you’re seeking.
