Lies snowball into betrayals, leading to a life-long rift between father and son that can only be mended by the past coming back to life and revealing its long-held secrets. You Can See More From Up Here is a coming-of-age tale about the illusion of privilege and the power of the past to inform and possibly heal the present. Mark Guerin’s new novel gives us a cast of unforgettable characters, caught up in the tide of history, each in search of a place of safety. It is at once a love story and a provocation, an emotional embrace and a decisive demonstration. It is told in a whisper, with a shout, with tears and with a laugh. Its heroes, both present and departed, human as well as animal, have been broken by the world we live in and then mended by love. And for this reason, they will never surrender. A work of extraordinary intricacy and grace.…A rangy and roving novel of multiple voices; an intimate picture of a diverse cast of characters…We see in detail not only their everyday lives but also their beliefs, and the contexts that inform their actions Moving. . . powerful…The kind of book that makes you feel like you’ve lived several times over. It contains so much of everything: anguish and joy and love and war and death and life, so much of being human. You Can See more from up Here rips open the world to show us everything that is dazzlingly beautiful and brutally ugly about it…Guerin centres the vulnerable and the unseen, making clear that love is the only way for individuals to really meet across the borders of skin or country. You Can See more from up Here tells a shattered story, magnificently, without ever trying to make it whole. #gifted by @netgalley @smithpublicity #bookstagram #bookstagramfeature #unitedbookstagram #booksofinstagram #booksbooksbooks #mybookfeatures #bookhoarder #culturetripbooks #readersofinstagram #flatlaystyle #bookstagramindia #featuringbooks #myreadinglife #amreading #bookblogger #booksaremylife #bookaholic #booksworthreading

Veteran author Nayantara Sahgal’s new book, The Fate of Butterflies, is about a series of political events which determine the course of its protagonist Prabhakar’s life. A commentary on many events which have occurred in the country over the past few years, the 91-year-old author, who is also the niece of Jawaharlal Nehru, delivers a hard-hitting book on the times we live in. As an enthusiast of both speculative fiction and Indian writing, I’ve noted with some dismay that the contribution of Indian English writers to this unique genre has been quite minimal, or their “Indian-ness” underplayed in favor of a generic, nameless, western identity. Which is a shame really, because how can you not realize how perfect a setting urban India is for dystopian fiction? That’s precisely why books like these are a breath of fresh air. A short read, the description of the world’s new, segregated society sucks you in, as you read on with some trepidation, dreading how plausible this world will end up sounding. One of the aspects that would come to attention while reading this book is its language. it’s a double sided sword that can cut sharp into the readers. I found two aspects with the language. At one side each line is coiled and lengthy carrying heavy details and meaning. On the other hand, it is a beauty in words. some of the lines have actually swooned worthy with its poetic quality. The language is art for this book. It is a bit difficult but beautiful at the same time. Sahgal’s new book, The Fate of Butterflies, is about a series of political events which determine the course of its protagonist Prabhakar’s life. A commentary on many events which have occurred in the country over the past few years, the author delivers a hard-hitting book on the times we live in. #gifted by @speakingtiger #bookstagram #bookstagramfeature #unitedbookstagram #booksofinstagram #booksbooksbooks #mybookfeatures #bookhoarder #culturetripbooks #readersofinstagram #flatlaystyle #bookstagramindia #featuringbooks #myreadinglife #amreading #bookblogger #booksaremylife #bookaholic #booksworthreading

Credit to @eatingtheirwords : *** READING GOALS 2018 *** Three goals this year: 1. Read one book from this stack each month. 2. Finish my unread Steinbecks. 3. Get my TBR under control. I actually have no more physical space for books in my appartment. So I'm joining @lei_in_japan with #tacklestack (I'm going to try to read 5 books for every book I buy for the rest of the year) and joining @theunreadshelf with #theunreadshelfproject2018. I counted and have 151 unread books on my shelf, so I'm hoping to get it down to 75 by next year. . . . . . #readinggoals #bookstagram #bibliophile #igreads #met_createchange #culturetripbooks #bookstack #thepossessed #dostoyevsky #balzac #oldgoriot #guntergrass #thetindrum #giacomoleopardi #grandesertao #joaoguimaraesrosa #thegoldfinch #donnatartt #themanwithoutqualities #robertmusil #wethedrowned #carstenjensen #doctorfaustus #thomasmann #theiliad #homer #samuelbeckett #hanschristianandersen

🧡Review 💔 I finished reading #aprincessintheory today by #alyssacole. Overall I gave this diverse and fun romance a 3.75. In a word, I was left feeling like the book was lacking. Lacking what? Not in character or plot development, but the book just ended and not in a sharp, poignant way or a mysterious way. It just was over and I don't think the sequel follows these characters. So for me the ending didnt work but the rest of the book did. I loved Naledi, our main character. I loved Thabiso. I loved their relationship, I loved Naledi's drive and ambition and smarts and how well the book seemed to be researched. I loved how real it seemed despite the premise. I would reccomend this book even if you don't normally like romance, just know going into it there isnt much of an ending. #bookcommunity #booknerdigan #bookpassion #bookrecommendation #bookreview #culturetripbooks #greatreads #bookquotes #bookobsessed #bookworms #bookster #totalbooknerd #bookgram #readmorebooks #alwaysreading #bookphoto #booksofinsta #booknookstagram #bookoftheday #ownvoices #libbyapp #audiobooks #ereader

• • #friendswithbookbenefits #bookbenefitslima #beneficiosliterarios #bookstagrammerperu #bookworm #booknerd #bookstagramperu #booklover #bookishfeatures #readinglist #librosrecomendados #culturetripbooks #bücher #buchliebe #peru #leeresunplacer #limalee #iep #institutodeestudiosperuanos #josemariaarguedas #franciscodeavila #historiadelperu #huarochiri #diosesyhombresdehuarochiri

Book Review: Normal People- Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ /5 --- I read Sally Ronney’s first novel Conversations with Friends, over a year ago, and devoured it. Thankfully this book was no less engulfing, and I perhaps enjoyed it even more. I often feel apprehensive about books following up a successful debut novel, but with Normal People, I believe Sally Rooney has solidified her talent, intuition, and ability to craft incredibly delicate characters. --- Normal people is told from the perspectives of both Connell and Marianne-- two young, irish students who are not friends at school, and become something more outside of school. It follows them over the next few years as they grow both together and apart. --- For me, this story is about the way that time and relationships intersect and inevitably affect one another. I appreciate the way that the subtleties of class division seeped in to the story and the relationships between the characters. It was easy for me to feel connected to both of the main characters and their struggles with communication felt so painfully realistic and relatable. --- 🖐🏼 model: @rebekah_hodge —- (p.s. just because I haven’t seen anyone say this, Marianne deals with some dark things in her life. If you are an HSP or one who needs to avoid certain topics, this book might not be for you. DM if you’d like to discuss before reading) . . . #halainakbooks #springblooms #signsofspring #botanicalpickmeup #recentlyread #bookreview #SallyRooney #normalpeople #bookstagram #booktography #bookphotography #igreads #bookgram #instabooks #culturetripbooks #booksbooksbooks #simplethingsmadebeautiful #gloomandglow #allthebooks #slowandglow #darlingdays #fivestarbook

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman #partner @berkleypub . Nina Hill has her life all planned out... quite literally. If it’s not in her planner, it’s not happening. Her days consist of working at a bookstore, trivia nights with her friends and scheduled (and non-negotiable) reading time. I’m in agreement with Nina that these are all great things! Suddenly though, her perfectly planned life is shaken up by something very unplanned. The father she never knew has passed away and left her with something she never expected- a large extended family. This is introverted Nina’s worst nightmare! . This is a really cute read with a storyline that I was drawn to. I enjoyed it and can see it being very beloved amongst the bookstagram community. However, it probably won’t be among my 2019 favorites. Here’s what worked and didn’t work for me... . What worked- this is a book for book lovers! I can totally relate with Nina on so many things- I don’t do well with change, I’m an outgoing introvert, I’m always up for trivia and of course... I love books. I could also relate with Nina’s struggles with anxiety. I liked that Nina is multifaceted and not your typical bookish character. . What didn’t work- something about this book didn’t feel totally consistent and cohesive. It jumps around a bit and feels slightly scattered at times. The writing is almost overly witty- every sentence seemed to have some sort of one liner or joke in it, which isn’t something I tend to love. . In the end I’m glad I read this and, although I didn’t love it, I did like it and think many others will adore it. For instance, @bringmybooks is currently raving about this one in her stories! . Thank you so much to @berkleypub for this review copy. The Bookish Life of Nina Hill comes out on July 9th. . Is this in your summer TBR list? #idlewildreadsreviews

What other genres do you read besides YA and what's your favourite book? . . Hi, book fam! Wow, it has been a while since I've shown my face around here. I thought I would be able to keep up with bookstagram and work but it's one or the other. Plus, I have gotten back to bullet journalling recently and that's taken up a lot of my time. But I've got a review for you! ARC provided courtesy of @puretextuality and @avonbooks . . It has been a while since I've received a historical romance novel but this one takes the cake! Say No to the Duke is the fourth installment in the Wildes of London Castle series by Eloisa James and features a heroine who wants to wear breeches; that's pants! I absolutely loved both the main characters and breathe of fresh air that Say No to the Duke brings to the genre. Check out my review in the link in bio and here's the synopsis: . . One little wager will determine their fate—a daring escape or falling into temptation with a rakish lord. . . Lady Betsy Wilde’s first season was triumphant by any measure, and a duke has proposed—but before marriage, she longs for one last adventure. . . No gentleman would agree to her scandalous plan—but Lord Jeremy Roden is no gentleman. He offers a wager. If she wins a billiards game, he’ll provide the breeches. . . If he wins…she is his, for one wild night. . . But what happens when Jeremy realizes that one night will never be enough? In the most important battle of his life, he’ll have to convince Betsy to say no to the duke. . . . . . #bookstagram #bookflatlay #booklover #bookstagrammer #culturetripbooks #booknerdigans #bookstafeatures #bookishthings #bookishlove #historicalromance #eloisajames #saynototheduke #bookphotography

Discussing one of the most phenomenal books I’ve ever read today! The other day I was going through my shelves and came across The White Tiger, I read it years ago but its brilliance still astonishes me... . The book is narrated from the point of view of Balram Halwai, a driver, a servant and a philosopher; the story is grim and real, a little too real to be honest with its class divide, poverty, exploitation and the idea of two different countries in India. I remember being haunted by it, some bits really made me think, others felt a little over critical of my country but I remember being mesmerised by it all. . Have you read it? I’d love to know what you think of it❤️ - Mansi #thewhitetiger #aravindadiga #manbookerprize #indianliterature #contemporaryliterature #onthebed #onthebedproject #unitedbookstagram #coffeeandbooks #coffeetime #eveningcoffee #bookspines #bookstacks #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #cozybed #bookstoread #indianbooks #microsoftsurface #coffeelover #bookaesthetic #mybookfeatures #culturetripbooks #met_createchange #bookcommunity #awardwinningbooks #ilovebooks #hyggelife #surfacelaptop

Omg! A picture! An EDITED picture! What happened to me? Well, I finished 2 books/stories in 2 days. I took a few pictures and I think I am for the most part back into reading again! (Although I did want to post another picture, that I actually purposefully took with my camera, but I haven't put it on my phone yet 😅) 🌟 But yeah! I finished the book in the picture, a small book I got as a book week gift with the books I bought (oh yeah! I also bought new books again, finally!). It was a short story from my favorite and basically only thriller/horror author out there, Thomas Olde Heuvelt! I love his books and was so excited to get this in as a free book! I read it right away that afternoon and finished ir before dinner! It was amazingly creepy and weird and like, I still don't understand what had actually happened. Also, I just finished The Music Of What Happens from Bill Koningsberg and wow, what an amazing book! The stuff that happenens (don't know if I can say or if it is a spoiler) and how they deal with it, how they tell it, act around it and everything is so amazing. And Max and Jordan are so cute, such a cute couple. But man, real life normal stuff happened in that book, in a really good way told too. Like not stereotypical or anything, just real! I really loved that! 🌟 I am also quite far along I think in Queen of Air and Darkness. On page 282 now. And I am determined to get at least to 300 tonight! Further if I can! I am so loving it! And I'm finally back into reading! And I am so happy about that!🤓 I have also bought 3 new books. The second book in The Graces series from Lauren Eve, Echo by Thomad Olde Heuvelt and Red Scrolls Of Magic by Cassie Clare! And then the free small book Dolores Dolly Poppedijn by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. I am so happy to finally be able to buy new books again. Even if it will take quite a long time again before I can buy some again, eventhough I have a lot on my wishlist! Hahahahh

I’m very pleased that the society sent this anthology my way as I love A Room of One’s Own and am keen to read modern interpretations and responses, especially as I’m reading alongside some of my favourite people @shelfobsessed @emilyhowarth @theshelfldn @wordchild . . . . . . . #woolfwednesday #mrsdalloway #woolf #culturetripbooks #guardianbooks #bibliophile #bookworm #igreads #whatiread #literature #writing #creativewriting #lovetowrite #aroomofonesown #virginiawoolf #bloomsburygroup #vintagebooks #essay #modernliterature #dallowayday #readmore #roomofmyown

“Gone mad is what they say, and sometimes Run mad, as if mad is a different direction, like west; as if mad is a different house you could step into, or a separate country entirely. But when you go mad you don't go any other place, you stay where you are. And somebody else comes in.”— Margaret Atwood, Alias Grace. #currentlyreading ... Had a very long day but I can finally get back to my book and books can fix everything right? I’m so glad I picked up this one because it’s so perfectly written and I’m loving it! 📖
