#Orangutan survives after being shot with 74 air rifle bullets in #Indonesia A handout photo from March 15, 2019, by the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program shows the female orangutan during a surgery to remove the air rifle pellets from its body, in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The female orangutan was found with 74 air rifle bullets in its body. The animal's baby later died of malnutrition and dehydration. Its believed the animal was targeted by the local owner of a palm plantation which attempted to expel the animal from the property, according to an officer with the Aceh Conservation Agency. Palm plantations have been built on former tropical rainforests, causing the death and displacement of many species, among them the critically endangered orangutan, rhino, Sumatran tiger and Sumatran elephant. The HourGlass Nebula!⌛⏳ . the Hourglass Nebula (MyCn18) captures the slow death of a Sun-like star roughly 8,000 light-years away. Released 22 years ago today, Hubble’s image revealed fine details in this planetary nebula that astronomers hadn’t seen before. In previous ground-based images, MyCn18 appeared to be a pair of large outer rings with a smaller central one, but Hubble’s view confirmed the nebula was shaped like an hourglass with an intricate pattern of "etchings" in its walls. A pair of intersecting rings in the central region might be the rims of a smaller hourglass. What appears as a bright elliptical ring in the center is seen on closer inspection to be a potato-shaped structure with an axis that’s dramatically different from that of the larger hourglass. And the hot central star, thought to produce and illuminate the nebula, appears oddly off center. . Amalthea is the third closest moon to Jupiter. It orbits Jupiter at an average distance of 112,700 miles (181,400 km) and has an orbital period of 0.50 days. Amalthea lies within the outer edge of the Amalthea Gossamer ring, which is formed from dust ejected from the surface of the satellite. Amalthea is Jupiter's fifth largest moon, much smaller than the four Galilean satellites Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Amalthea orbits Jupiter inside of these moons, with its long axis always pointing toward Jupiter. It is irregularly shaped and reddish in color. Amalthea is thought to consist of porous ice with unknown amounts of other materials. The surface features both large craters and high mountains. Its dark surface color is probably due to sulfur being expelled from Io. Amalthea is the reddest object in the solar system and it appears to give out more heat than it receives from the sun. This may be because, as it orbits within Jupiter's powerful magnetic field, electric currents are included in the moon's core. Alternatively, the heat could be from tidal stresses. Amalthea was discovered in 1892 by Edward Emerson Barnard using the then-brand-new 36" reflector at Lick Observatory. It was the first new satellite of Jupiter discovered since Galileo's sighting of Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto in 1610. Amalthea was named after the nymph from Greek mythology who nursed the infant Zeus. #space #astronomy #astrophysics #solarsystem #nasa #amazing #cosmos #universe #cosmology #science #education #instagram #creation #life #wonderful #physics #amalthea #math #chemistry ... 💫...

The Gödel incompleteness theorems: Yesterday I posted about the length of proof required to prove 1+1=2 using only the most fundamental axioms of mathematics. Each sub-field of mathematics has its own set of axioms, or statements taken to be true. Through the axioms, all of our theorems, lemmas, and corollaries are proved. But Kurt Gödel showed that even if a mathematical statement is true, it may not be possible to prove that it’s true using the axioms. Gödel’s two incompleteness theorems showed that not all truths can be proved no matter what axioms are chosen, and that a system of math cannot demonstrate its own consistency (lack of contradictions). This second theorem solved one of Hilbert’s twenty-three unsolved problems in math. This means some of math’s most famous unsolved problems, like the Riemann hypothesis, Goldbach conjecture, or Yang-Mills mass gap, may be true, but mathematically unprovable! Follow @strange_antiquark for more, and tag a friend challenging them to prove the Goldbach conjecture. . . . #math #theorem #godel #proof #mathematics #physics #science #astronomy #space #universe #nasa #cosmos #engineering #astrophysics #chemistry #stars #biology #technology #galaxy #nature #education #quantumphysics #cosmology #earth #facts #spacex #maths #like

This is the UESA Phoenix Space Station by Glenn Clovis @glennclovis, that we found on @human.mars website. Very informative caption by @marstronauts: ⠀ 👨🏼‍🚀 This space station is a permanent space-bound way-point. Landing on Mars and then attempting to leave the surface again for the trip back to 🌎 consumed enormous amounts of fuel and water. This space station would provide a stopping point for Earth transports, subsequent travel would then be provided by the stations shuttles and capsules. 🚀⠀⠀ ⠀ This station is capable of sustaining a crew of up to 120, providing for all their needs for prolonged periods. Housed within it various sections, the station stored and processed a variety of necessities:⠀ 🌬atmospheric gases⠀ 💧water storage and reclamation⠀ 🔁CO2 scrubbers⠀ 🌊 hydroponics⠀ 🛢 fuel for transports⠀ 🍇 food and⠀ 🛠 equipment stores.⠀⠀ ⠀ There are 64 modules to provide for the crew quarters and secondary laboratories. 🔬⠀ ⠀ It also features a significant amount of protection from radiation and micro-meteorites.☢⠀ ⠀ A single, injectable micro fission reactor provided up to 110 MW of power to the station. ☣⠀ ⠀ A secondary power source was provided by solar arrays around the top of the station.🌞⠀ ⠀ In the event the reactor had to be ejected due to a meltdown, the arrays could provide enough operational power for the station until the replacement fission reactor could be delivered from Earth and installed🌈⠀ ⠀ According to the artist, here is how long it took to create this art: Shuttles - 1 hr in Cinema4D, Spacestation - 20 Hours in Cinema 4D, 3 hours to render, Planet - 1 hour in Vue, the rest is Photoshop. ⠀ Credits: glennclovis.com, humanmars.net @human.mars.⠀⠀ ⠀ #mars #redplanet #martian #terraform #spacefacts #spacecraft #spacex #spacestation #spaceexplorer #spaceexploration #spacephoto #spacephotography #theuniverse #outerspace #interstellar #solarsystem #milkyway #nasa #esa #astronomy #astronomylover #astronomyfacts #cosmos #space #astronaut #internationalspacestation #spacetravel #physics #philosophy #cosmology "perfect 👌 Via: -@spacexpage 💖 Follow me @Spacecraft_ig for more 💗 ❤ Update new pictures everyday! ➖ 📌 Tag someone to m
