A method to identify your pelvic floor muscles is to imagine stopping the flow of urine and holding inflatus (wind) at the same time. This can be done lying down, sitting or standing with legs about shoulder-width apart. -Relax the muscles of your thighs, bottom, and tummy. -Squeeze in the muscles around the front passage as if trying to stop the flow of urine. -Squeeze in the muscles around the vagina and suck upwards inside the pelvic. -Squeeze in the muscles around the back passage as if trying to stop passing wind. -The muscles around the front and back passages should squeeze up and inside the pelvis. -Women who are familiar with using tampons can imagine squeezing in the vagina as if squeezing a tampon up higher in the vagina. -Identify the muscles that contract when you do all these things together. Then relax and loosen them. You may need additional help in order to activate or relax the pelvic floor muscles appropriately. Pelvic floor dysfunction can affect anyone; both male and female from the elderly to elite athletes. You are not alone. || Meniscal Tear Rehabilitation || The knee joint contains a lateral and medial meniscus, which act as shock absorbers and force transducers. Meniscal injuries can be traumatic or degenerative in nature and are more common in athletes that participate in sports that involve twisting on a planted foot (football, basketball, netball, running, etc). Symptoms associated with a meniscal injury are usually reported as knee pain, catching, locking, giving way of the knee or any combination of these symptoms. It should also be noted that a large percentage of the asymptomatic population have meniscus tears on MRI and experience no symptoms. So, don’t stress if you have evidence of meniscal changes on an MRI. Instead, focus on improving your level of function and reducing pain. These types of issues often resolve with conservative care.
