TREAT YOUR CALORIES LIKE MOST TREAT THEIR MONEY So! what do I mean by the title of this post? Itโ€™s very simple actually. I am going to talk about how a lot of people treat their money and use it to explain how you can do the same for your calories. When we get paid, either weekly, monthly it doesnโ€™t really matter, we feel like we are rich! We go on a big weekend to the pub spending ยฃ50-100 on Friday and Saturday or go on a big blow out in the first few days when monthly and find ourselves working to a budget until the next pay dayโ€ฆ You have done this right? And it makes perfect sense to many, we all know people who do this week in, week out, maybe you used to or still do lol So why are our calories any different? For example, come Sunday your calories restart and you find yourself with 2000 calories a day or 14,000 a week. You break this down to a daily total and come the weekend you find yourself struggling when on a night out as you know you are going to consume more than 2000 calories. So why do we do it this way? Plan ahead, know that you want to go out Friday and Saturday, consuming 6 alcoholic drinks and even a big meal. Then why not amend your calories like you would your money? Work to a budget Sunday-Thursday so instead of 2000, maybe 1600 which leaves an additional 2000 to be added to Friday and Saturday allowing 3000 per day or 4000 on Friday 2000 Saturday etc The grand total for the week is still 14000calories!! So next time you are thinking about the weekend social event, plan ahead and work on a budget until the weekend to allow for the ยฃ50-100 spend guilt free and still staying within your overall caloriesโ€ฆ. I usually tend to eat a higher ratio of protein and fat but lately Iโ€™ve said eff it because Iโ€™ve been busy and stressed. - Raise your hand if you can relate ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธโ€” now lower your hand and double tap ๐Ÿ˜‰. - So, because of the very HEAVY carb consumption and caloric surplus Iโ€™ve been holding onto a ton of water, waking up with a swollen face, and my clothes have been tighter ๐Ÿง. - Of course it feels like itโ€™s all bodyfat and some of it probably is (because Iโ€™ve been doing it for more than a few days) but itโ€™s mostly water retention because Iโ€™m still pretty active and pay attention to my nutrition (for the most part .... #butilovecandy). - Eating a surplus of calories over the weekend wonโ€™t cause you to gain 10 lbs of fat immediately. Instead of your standard machine hamstring curls, try doing then with a dumbbell between your feet - Takes a bit more foot coordination, but I feel a better overall contraction. As with any isolation movement, thatโ€™s all you should really be concerned with - I donโ€™t like the term โ€œmuscle confusionโ€, but you definitely need to switch up the exercises you are doing, or else your body stops adapting. Iโ€™ve experienced this many times in my life - Donโ€™t be married to an exercise, just because youโ€™ve always done it. My favorite picture of the @spectrumfitnessproductions IFBB Portland Classic sharing the moment with my Charity. Two weeks ago, while celebrating my 49th Birthday on Maui with this beautiful lady @charity_clint_vandyke and her family, we talked about how this lifestyle has forever changed our lives and the lives of our families. For one, it united us and our families. I canโ€™t help but feel that the more we spend time together, the more we realize how connected we are in all we do and the choices we have made in our lives. Could we be long lost sisters? No...because we are more like twins in all we do. So two weeks ago, I decided to take this challenge and prep for this show. Was it easy? Iโ€™d like to say that it didnโ€™t seem that bad, coz after all it was only two weeks, but then again during the two a day cardio sessions totaling 2-3 hrs, my answer may have been different at the time๐Ÿ˜ญ. My point is this, if you set your mind to it, anything is possible...especially with the right people supporting you. So to my family, friends, to my Charity and her family, my @teamedge1 coaches...this one was for you! For starters, deadlifts work more muscles simultaneously than any other movement (yes, including squats). The deadlift essentially forces the whole body to grow. . ITโ€™S NOT JUST A LOWER BODY MOVEMENT! . Since deadโ€™s recruit the most muscles to perform they help build the most muscle which in turn will help you burn the most body fat. . Deadlifts are also tops in terms of strengthening the core. When deadlifting you hit all the surrounding and supporting muscles of the waist, backside, hips and, of course, lower back. . Another misconception is that deadlifts are a gateway to snapping your back in half. Itโ€™s actually the opposite, when performed correctly, deadlifts PREVENT injuries by strengthening the muscles around critical tendons and ligaments. . If you canโ€™t deadlift for some reason or you are struggling with proper form, try doing a hex bar deadlift. Itโ€™s easier in terms of set up and you donโ€™t have to go so low. A second option is putting plates under the plates on the bar shortening the distance you have to lift the weight. This will decrease the range of motion making it a bit easier to maintain proper form through the lift. . If you havenโ€™t done so already, make sure deadlifts are a part of your current strength training routine. Your situation is not always directly correlated to your actions. Your reaction to that situation is. When things go your way, it is your choice to either capitalize on that momentum or sit back and become stagnant. When things donโ€™t go your way, it is your choice to change that downward momentum or sit back and let that slide continue. Whatever happens to you, donโ€™t be caught up in that change. Get caught up in what to do with that change, and then create your own momentum.
