Today’s #martinlutherkingjrday! And even though we have so much further to go we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him. . Today I wanna take the time and honor these three author. I’m so glad Angie Thomas, Nic Stone and Reni Eddo-Lodge help put awareness to this deep rooted issue of racial profiling and racism in the world. I hope one day that more fiction and non-fiction books about racial issues will be apart of the school curriculum. . I feel so overwhelmed and heartbroken when I think to long about it. It’s no secret that people of color get scrutinized everyday. They are racially profiled, less chance of probation, which equals longer sentences, poor neighborhoods, bad schools, homelessness. Without a home you can’t get a job and without a job you can’t get insurance. They are more likely to be pulled over by the police and shot. The list goes on! Affirmative action and Jim Crow laws are a step in the right direction, but it’s not nearly enough. . What I found very interesting with these books are that not only do we get a truthful look into the racial discrimination in today’s world, but also the mindset that some individuals in the black community have about themselves and other people of color. . All I want is for you to pick up these three books and read them. It’s truly an eye opener of how much harder we have to work to make a better life for the future. Happy #MLKday

So I typically nonjudgmentally judge those who support things that have nothing to do with them. In this case, I’m “that person” and going to post my #snowstack in the middle of the AZ desert at 73 degrees in my short sleeves and flip flops. You’re welcome. . . Thanks @kraysbookclub for the idea to show my support to my favorite season that I see exactly one time a year when we take a field trip up north ❄️ for approximately three hours- the length of time it takes to make a snow angel, snowman, and sled down a hill 2.5 times. . . Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed 🕊 - “Don’t surrender all your joy for an idea you used to have about yourself that isn’t true anymore.” ✨ - 📸 : @bookivoracious - It’s easy to to miss the moments of when things were different. When we lived more in the moment or where we more carefree & happy. Yet things change over time. The one thing that’s constant is this present moment in which we have a choice to re-create ourselves. Every second lies an opportunity to re-create ourselves. Once we accept this moment as a new chapter & take action, we become steps closer to unlocking who we desire to be. 🌺 #booksforthewise

I win the award for most likely to join your buddy read and struggle to juggle the 6 others I’ve joined by the discussion dates FOR SURE. 🏆I am in the Jan buddy read for All The Light We Cannot See as part of @kraysbookclub and @downtogetthefictionon #notyomommasbookclub and there is a discussion tonight that I am completely not prepared for. 😂 . The great thing about this group is we all enjoy a nice cocktail and are easily distracted when it comes to discussing the actual book, especially when we have no idea what’s going on. 🤣🤣As a historical fiction lover I’m so ashamed that I’ve been having a harder time getting into this one and haven’t powered through yet. . I love the chats within this group and hope it continues on indefinitely. Here’s to Feb and signing up for another dozen books that I’m unable to read in a timely manner! 🥂

Hey lovelies! Review of 'On Love' by Charles Bukowski is now on my blog, it would mean a lot if you checked it out! 😘📚 Let me know what you think! Enjoyable read, Bukowski is a very honest writer, not sugar coating anything. In his poems he talks about different kinds of love, towards women, his daughter and objects or actions. Quite eye opening read 😊 Do you read poetry? "The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." ~ Stephen King, The Gunslinger. Roland, last of the gunslingers, is after the man in black, and we join him on his hunt, during which we get to see glimpses of his past, present and future. I'm very happy to say that I did enjoy my reread a lot more, than my initial encounter with this book! While I still think that this is a very scattered and disjointed story in parts, it also serves as a great introduction to the world and Roland's character. Knowing what happens in the next couple of books, has also made a lot of the prophecies and foreshadowing that are peppered throughout the story, a lot more accessible for me and all up there were a lot less wtf moments. I can't wait to get on with my Dark Tower journey! The Bazaar of Bad Dreams isn’t one of my favourit

📚BOOK REVIEW! 📚 • The Bazaar of Bad Dreams isn’t one of my favourite short story collections of Stephen King’s, but it did contain some absolutely amazing stories that I loved reading. 👌📖☠️👻🤡💀 My favourites are as follows: Mile 81; Premium Harmony; Batman and Robin Have an Altercation; The Dune; Bad Little Kid; A Death; Morality; Afterlife; Herman Wouk Is Still Alive; Under the Weather; Cookie Jar; That Bus is Another World; Mister Yummy, and Summer Thunder. • I didn’t like “Ur” – I found it too manufactured. King’s tale at the beginning of this story explains why. 🙈 “Blockade Billy, “The Little Green God of Agony”, “Obits,” and “Drunken Fireworks” were okay stories but they weren’t as great as some of the others. 😕 I also skipped the two poems because poetry isn’t my jam 🤷‍♀️. Overall, Stephen King is a master. He will always be one of my favourite authors of all time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • • #writersofinstagram #💪 #📚 #ilovetowrite #bookreview #bookstagram #book #books #bookshelf #finishedreading #stephenking #stephenkingbooks #stephenkingfan #thebazaarofbaddreams #horror #authorsofinstagram #author #ilovetoread #lovetoread #annarecommends

#IGBookReview #Bookreview #Bookstagram #BookstagramIndonesia #BukuPintarIndonesia #Eksindrianii #novelwattpad #romanceaddict #romance #BOMC2018 #obrolinbuku #bookstagram #bibliophile #review #reviewbuku #photobook #photonovel #bookaddict #noveladdict #readbook #novel #bookworm #bookholic #wattpad #wattpadbook #gerakan_1week1book #irrc2018

booksta_jojo. Half Moon Lake by Kirsten Alexander
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Half Moon Lake by Kirsten Alexander ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . “In 1913, on a summer’s day at Half Moon Lake, Louisiana, 4 year old Sonny Davenport walks into the woods and never returns. The boy’s mysterious disappearance from the family’s lake house makes front-page news in their home town of Opelousas. The Davenports are wealthy and influential and will do anything to find their son. For two years, they search across the South and struggle not to give in to despair. . Then, at the moment when all hope seems lost, the boy is found in the company of a tramp. But is he truly Sonny Davenport? The circumstances of his discovery raise more questions than answers. And when Grace Mill, an unwed farm worker, travels from Alabama to lay claim to the child, newspapers, townsfolk, even the Davenports’ own friends, take sides. . As the tramp’s kidnapping trial begins, and two desperate mothers fight for ownership of the boy, the people of Opelousas discover that truth is more complicated than they’d ever dreamed.” . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ . What a stunner of a debut this book is, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The writing is beautiful and vivid as Alexander takes the reader to 1913 Louisiana, with a genuine depiction of the language, fashion and politics of the time. The characters are really well developed and the author does an incredible job of portraying the anguish and desperation as the family and community struggles with such a traumatic event (I especially found Esmeralda, the Davenport’s gutsy housekeeper, very endearing). . The first third of the book is a slow but essential buildup of the story as the family searches for their lost son but at around page 100, when the boy is found, the tension is wound up a notch (or ten!) and doesn’t let up until the twist on the very last page, which left me genuinely breathless. I was happy to note in the author’s afterword that a second book is in the works so can’t wait for that! . Half Moon Lake is out now and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you so much to @penguinbooksaus for sending me this review copy. . #halfmoonlake #kirstenalexander #reading #bookreview #bookstagram #historicalfiction

Rating 4.5/5 This is brilliant. One of the darkest and creepiest books I have read. The Introduction has King himself say that this is the most frightening book he has written till date. Damn he was right. A terrific page turner right from the start. I didn't find a single page that seemed like a drag. Things just flow smoothly and then we rae thrown off our seats. We are introduced to the Creed family who have shifted to their new home. There is a Pet Sematary close by and it has some powers (well, we could guess that much from the book title). Things start taking steep turns when the family cat dies. Not going to say anything more. The last section of the book is terrific. Events are so terrifyingly detailed that you realise that this is Uncle Steve at his best. Highly recommended to anyone who loves reading horror, a thriller. People who do not like dead coming back to life, stay away. Because... Cudowną serię „Kwiatu paproci” Katarzyny Bereniki Miszczuk kończy

. . Cudowną serię „Kwiatu paproci” Katarzyny Bereniki Miszczuk kończy czwarty tom – „Przesilenie” i żałuję, że to już finał tej przygody, bo pokochałam jej bohaterów całym sercem. . . . . Jestem zdecydowanie usatysfakcjonowana. Książkę czyta się błyskawicznie. Po prostu się przez nią płynie.  Jednym słowem KOCHAM! Moja ocena: 10/10 Za tą cudowną książkę dziękuję @wydawnictwo_wab 💙💙💙 . . #chcewiecej

Last week I went on a short trip to my Maternal Grandmothers home. During spare time, our whole family went on to a nearby village of Titri, Madhya Pradesh, India. The place is famous for its Grape Vineyards and is a big Agricultural Hub. There we went deep inside Farms of various Fruits and Vegetable and got to pick some freshly grown Organic Grapes, Ginger, Potatoes, Pomegranate, Guava, Cherry Tomato, Pumpkin, and Garadu. So hereby, I took all of them to compile a photograph with a book which discovers about their highly nutritious value at great length. The experience to roam around and pick fresh vegetables directly from the farm is Soothing. . . Quote from the Book I liked - 1. “How Communication Scholars Think and Act: A Lifespan Perspective” by Julien C. Mirivel 🌟🌟🌟🌟 This was a delightful little read that I think communication academics will find well worth the read. It’s an accessible and insightful piece of qualitative communication research examining the lifespan development of the communication professoriate. Big names such as Robert Craig, Em Griffin, Dawn O. Braithwaite, Raymie McKerrow, Karen Foss, and Art Bochner, among others, make an appearance offering their insights. It’s a fascinating book structured as an extended, but interesting, journal article. And therein lies a couple of small problems I have with the text. Mirivel’s writing at times feels repetitive, as if it should have been condensed to a journal article. He could also have expanded the book to include some of his acknowledged limitations, such as communication academics who are not necessarily as recognizable and who do not have 25+ years under their belt. I think a comparative approach in a slightly fuller book would have been less repetitive and addressed this limitation. The limitation is important because the book, while theoretically interesting, fails to reflect much of the experience many communication academics face. It’s a good study, but hardly representative of any norm in communication, or academia in general. Still this is a great read that really made me think about my own trajectory as a communication educator. Should I ever teach an Introduction to Communication course, this would absolutely be required reading. #booklist #booksofinstagram #reading📖 #reader #readingchallenge #goodreads #goodreadschallenge2019 #bookreview #bookrecommendation #books📚 #communication #commstudies #qualitative #qualitativeresearch #shortbooks #nonfiction #lifespan #academics #academia #professorsofinstagram #professors #college #collegeteacher

WELL, Anthony Burgess, we got off to a rocky start but in the end the headache I got trying to decipher Nadsat for the first 40 pages paid off! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with such a drastic turnaround, where I felt active dislike and annoyance to begin with but then found myself more and more absorbed until finally I was loving it. A bizarre but rewarding reading experience! . For those of you who don’t know, A Clockwork Orange takes place in a dystopian future, probably the UK but it’s not really clear, where after sundown the streets are ran by gangs of youths whose favourite pastimes include savagely beating elderly people, rape, and generally terrorising the population, under the ominous term ‘ultraviolence’. No sugarcoating it, it’s not an easy read, and what sometimes makes it worse is that the Nadsat slang distances you from the horrific violence you’re reading about, and it’s not until you’ve processed the language that it hits you what it is Burgess is detailing with full force. That delay makes it all the worse. . The book is divided into three parts: before, during and after the main character Alex’s arrest, and my favourite parts were the second and third, not least because I was used to the jargon by this point. Alex is imprisoned and subject to the Ludovico technique, which takes away his free will in a seemingly ideal way to moderate violence on the streets. The third part examines the consequences of this ‘treatment’, and questioning whether someone can be ‘good’ merely because they’ve had the ‘bad’ stripped away from them. . I think if you have the patience to get to grips with the slang Burgess makes up, then A Clockwork Orange is more than worth your time, and I’m certainly glad I powered through and finally read this darkly comic and grim little novel! . 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . #abreadsandreviews2019 . . . . . . . . . . . . . #anthonyburgess #aclockworkorange #bookreview #review #bookreviewer #bookrecommendation #bibliophile #bookstagram #reading #igreads #bookworm #booknerd #booklover #booklove #lovebooks #bookish #bookaddict #fiction #read #secondhandbooks

Kalau ia membiasakan dirinya menjadi penjilat, maka jadilah ia penjilat. Kalau ia membiasakan dirinya punya martabat, maka mau dibeli seberapapun harga dirinya, tetap ia akan berjuang mati-matian demi mempertahankan martabat. #Naqiibaca #BookReview #gerakanoneweekonebook #bookstagram #bookshelf #bookish #bookish_indonesia #oneweekonebook #owob #owobreaders #literaksiproject #1jamtanpamedsos

Life is too sort to continue doing something you hate just because you lack better options, and it's a good thing the central character of @salini.sasidharan.37 's novella "Magic Square" realized that, because it led her to an adventure of a lifetime & gave us a brilliant, suspenseful read while she was uncovering the mystery behind a poem scribbled on the back cover of a Math book. Amudha (such a unique name!) is a PhD scholar possibly because she loves unraveling the mysteries of the universe, but definitely because she couldn't get a job after completing her Masters (high five if you can relate with this problem that most of our country's youth face). Her daily drudgery has her captive, she yearns for something more but doesn't know what. Her friend & colleague Dheeraj is also pretty unhappy with the chores their boss doles out to him & rants at the visibly amused Amudha, but their banter is what friendships are made of & is quite heartwarming to read. And how exactly do these two get involved in unraveling a centuries old mystery? Well, that's something you will have to read the novella to find out exactly. All I can tell you is that it is full of twists & turns, ups & downs, ifs & buts - as Amudha breaks out of her protective barriers & does something so out of character that she herself is surprised at her guts and gumption. The language is swift & keeps you flipping for the next twist, the next clue, the next step - a special mention to the editing of this novella - it's crispness is it's actual strength. As the story takes you through South India, you will find yourself identifying with the locales, the college politics, university hierarchies - basically snippets of real life make their way into the story. Salini makes an impressive debut with "Magic Square" -a journey of a young girl finding herself unknowingly under the overall context of solving a mystery. At just over 60 pages long, it's the right length for a mystery novella - because once you start you can't stop! Our family was gifted a book by the author, Evelyn Sanchez-Toledo, to write a review for multicultural children’s book day 2019. Diego’s New America is a picture book. It is about a boy with a multicultural heritage. Written by Evelyn Sanchez-Toledo and illustrated by Karen Light. My boys couldn’t get enough of this story. Just like Diego they ask lots of questions. My 5-year old particularly loved that Diego not only asks questions but he answers questions that others have as well. My 10-year old appreciated Diego’s perseverance. He asks so many questions and is determined to get answers. We loved the angle from the international fair and the integration of cultures. We are multicultural ourselves, so that was something that really resonated and gave base for good conversations. Just like Diego, our family heritage can fill the map. It’s nice to know where you come from and learn about your culture. The boys can’t wait for me to read the book again. I bet this will become a well loved book in our house. Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2019 (1/25/19) is in its 6th year and was founded by Valarie Budayr from Jump Into A Book and Mia Wenjen from @PragmaticMom. Our mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in home and school bookshelves while also working diligently to get more of these types of books into the hands of young readers, parents and educators. We’d like to also give a shout-out to MCBD’s impressive CoHost Team who not only hosts the book review link-up on celebration day, but who also works tirelessly to spread the word of this event. julzpix. Book review:
Being one of Liane Moriarty's earlier books I didn't have

Book review: Being one of Liane Moriarty's earlier books I didn't have high expectations but this was a pretty good read overall.  The main character Alice loses 10 years of her life with amnesia when she gets knocked out at the gym. This throws a spanner in the works as she can't remember her 3 kids or that she is getting a divorce. It all seems to work out for the best though and gets you thinking how important it is to sow into relationships in small, positive and continuous ways. The book also has the serious and close-hitting theme of infertility, accurately portraying the devastation this can have on people's lives. Overall, an easy and enjoyable summer read! #bookreview #amreading #instaread #bookstagram #booklove #bookshelf #bookaddict

Lily Malone - The Cafe By The Bridge @lilymalone1 @harlequinaus (Note: second review but by Phil) The Cafe By The Bridge is the second story in Lily Malone's Chalk Hill series. Although we reaquaint with some familiar characters from Water Under The Bridge this story focuses on Abe and his story. His resentment of being back in Chalk Hill, his mistrust of people and his rocky relationship with his father. The loss of significant money and his Perth business due to manipulation of an evil vixen Amanda sees Abe encounter a sister helping her also scorned brother. This pairing starts a journey of new love, trust and healing. Set in the SW corner of WA this enjoyable story takes the reader on an emotionally driven journey. I am glad the strong and very likeable characters, Jake and Ella did not steal Abe's thunder. Lily captures an authentic persona in very likeable characters and I can't wait to read the next installment about the third brother Brix. Highly recommend indulging in the talents of Lily Malone and enjoy the people and town of Chalk Hill. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 stars Phil’s review #bookreview #bookaddict #booklover #bookblog #lifelit #ruralromance #rurallife #bookblogger #bookreview #writersofinstagram #booksofinstagram #authorsofinstagram #womenwriters #femalewriters #bookstagram #book #bookalicious #bookobsessed #bookaholic #booknerd #bookworm #fiction #popularfiction #contemporaryfiction #lilymalone #thecafebythebridge

Books to me are not expanded journal articles, but reading experiences, and the academics who tend to read in order to cite in their writing--rather than read for enjoyment, curiosity, or simply because they like to read--tend to be frustrated when they can't rapidly scan the text and summarize it in one sentence that connects it to some existing discourse in which they have been involved. ----------------------------------- Authors, artists, and even philosophers are much better off having a very small number of fanatics behind them than a large number of people who appreciate their work. The number of persons who dislike the work don’t count—there is no such thing as the opposite of buying your book, Antifagile , By :- Nassin Nicholas Taleb. #selfhelpbooks #selfhelptips #selfhelp #nassimnicholastaleb
