Excerpt that really made me choke up. Not because I am surprised- most writers believe in their work - but because a professional review is unique and rife with unknowns. One doesn’t write to impress reviewers but instead to tell a story that readers find entertaining, challenging, funny, infuriating and, hopefully, thought provoking - to connect in some way. Those are lofty writing goals! This review excerpt: "Written in poetic prose and full of vivid imaginary, the book explores creation of the universe through women’s hands. Whimsical and original, the book will please lovers of mystical literature. Readers will welcome Clifton’s unique attempt at exploring the theory of woman as the creator of the universe.” So, I’m celebrating this review. #writerscommunity #june #authorsofinstagram #bookclub #bookworm #bookstagram #bookshelf #bookreview #bookreviews #wednesdaywisdom #wednesdaymotivation @theprairiesbookreview

Ooofff it’s been a while since I finished a book, but I finally managed to get through this one! ⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I heard so many good reviews about this book before I purchased it, but I’m sad to say that it was one of the hardest books for me to finish. The first 200 pages were just exhausting for me and for a long time, I was waiting for something climatic to happen. Overall, I loved the concept of the story and I appreciated its uniqueness. I feel like the book went the wrong way in characterizing the main character, Eleanor Oliphant. I understand that she’s supposed to be depicted as a very anti-social, bland and utterly average person and therefore the description of her isn’t quite as exciting as most people hope, but her character analysis was stretched way too far to the point where I became impatient for something fresh. I felt like after page 50, I already knew her character and the plot could have progressed from there to something new. I was constantly trying to hold on to something tangible, but there was no material for me to hold on to until the last third of the book. If you are patient enough to wait until almost the very end for the meat of the novel to be revealed, then by all means, read this book! #currentlyreading #reading #books #bookclub #bookstagram #eleanoroliphantiscompletelyfine #bookreview

#grimdragon I was in a mood!... and still am! 😅 Since finished The Faithful and the Fallen I have just been struggling with motivation to read anything new. I am pretty sure I have a book hangover! I’ve also been super busy the last few days so that also might have something to do with it 🤷‍♀️ ....Anyways I’m currently reading (or should I say trying to read) Deadhouse Gates, book two of Malazan and I’m only 250 pages in. The first 50 or so pages felt like I was drowning but now I know what’s going on (I think anyways) I’m starting to really enjoy it, especially Felisin’s chapters. I don’t particularly like her as a character but her parts of the chapters are great! . . I’m also half way through The Wicked + The Divine Book one omnibus and I am enjoying it. Not as much as I thought I would but it’s still pretty great! . . What are you reading atm? Or have you read either of these? Orrrrr are you like me and struggling to want to do anything as of late? 😅 . . . #bookreadhappyhour trust no one! #starcrossedreaders fluent in sarcasm

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐄 𝐘𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑 - 𝑱𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝑳𝒚𝒏𝒏, 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑱𝒂𝒚 Yes Prime Minister is a british political satire centered upon three principal characters - James Hacker, the newly appointed Minister of DAA (Department of Administrative Affairs), Humphrey Appleby, the permanent secretary to the DAA and Bernard Wooley, the private secretary to the minister. The book is divided into short episodes each of which is centered on a different issue faced by the DAA. While Hacker always attempts to take an optimistic view on the issues, Appleby always tries to play him down in one way or the other. Caught in this tussle between Hacker and Appleby is the private secretary, Bernard who most of the times is confused about his loyalties. His job requires him to be loyal to the minister while his career prospects in civil services demand him to be loyal to his superior. This trio of characters packs a hilarious punch as each tries to outwit the other. No wonder, the BBC series of YES MINISTER is popularly regarded as one of the best TV series ever. #book #books #cafe #coffee #coffeebook #bookshop #english #bookstagram #bookreview #lovebook #gbook #lovebookslovegbook #reading #like4like #love #inspire #vibes #sachngoaivan #quote #coffeetalk #lovebook #books #book #bookshelf #instagood #instamood

Hi everyone! It has been a while, but here is my latest review. I actually finished this book a while ago, as a buddy read with @thelibrarianfiles 🔥 Girls of Paper and Fire 2.4 stars out of 5 This is a hard book for me to review. Before reading this book, I had heard several great things about the book, but it fell flat for me. For starters, the book was slow moving. To me, it seemed as though most of the book was the characters locked in their rooms, waiting for something to happen to them. The basis of the story was great, and I loved the idea of it, but once I got reading, I couldn't stay involved in the book. There were several times where my mind would wander, and I would find myself thinking of reasons to stop reading. The last issue I had that might be just me was that some of the descriptions started to become far too graphic for me to the point that I would skip a few paragraphs until certain scenes were done. Overall it was a hard book for me to get through. The writing style and character builds were good throughout the book, but sadly, it is another book that just wasn't for me. 🔥 #book #bookish #booknerd #ilovebooks #bookgeek #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookworm #bookaddiction #bookalicious #bookaddict #bookobsessed #booksofinstagram #instabooks #bookjunkie #bookreview #bookreviews

Outcaste. ~ "Paptikutty's inner eye opened. The purpose of her birth was revealed to her in that moment. Her weariness and inertia vanished. The concept of Illusion reared its head. The primal figure of the Mother Goddess in a graveyard, wearing a garland of skills, gleefully sucking the blood trickling from the decapitated demon's head, appeared in her mind's eye." - Matampu Kunhukuttan. ~ Originally written in Malayalam by Matampu and later translated into English by Vasanthi Sankaranarayanan, Outcaste is a fierce novel about everything that's wrong with the patriarchal society. I've come to enjoy translated books lately for the fact that it is poetic in it's writing while narrating the events that are most often related to our history. Outcaste is based on the 1905 trial of a Namboodiri woman for adultery. This book is about revenge that a woman seeked while bringing down the entire Namboodiri community. ~ Paptikutty was a vision of beauty and grace but when she gets exploited by her husband and brother-in-law on the night of her wedding, she steels her heart and decides to take revenge on all the men. She seeks out 64 men from the most powerful families and lures them in with her seductive beauty. While on trail, she even lists down their names and intimate physical descriptions that they shared. The above quote refers to Paptikutty being an reincarnation of Goddess Kaali while purifying the patriarchal society. First half of the book describes the historic Kerala where the author explains about how the Namboodiri community used to work. I learnt about resident husbands, the era of prostitution being considered as high class amongst other things. ~ This book is tough to read at one go for the translation is very difficult to comprehend. There are meanings of most of the words that we aren't aware of but I'm afraid many readers will choose to abandon this due to the level of difficulty. If you're interested in learning about the ancient culture of Kerala, then I assure you that you'll love the book. I, for one, enjoyed the book for I decided to give it time. ~ Thank you @alephbookco for sending this gorgeous book :) ~ Rating - 4/5.

//book #14 of 2019// I really loved this book! Recommended by a close friend, she didn't tell me anything about it but I feel in love immediately. It's about a small, hockey town which gripped me right away as my dad has a hockey background. A bit "Friday night lights" feel but deeper and a little darker. This author is so talented and the character development was so deep. Highly recommend! I also didn't post but my book #13 was a couple weeks ago and it was Emily Griffin's All We Ever Wanted and I feel like it had the potential to be better but was a let down. It visited a lot of relevant topics with race, gender roles & privilege but ultimately fell flat and didn't deep dive like I had hoped. Brief Interviews with Hideous Men by David Foster Wallace - 👏👏👏 . . Q - What is this book? . . Continually when listening I was reminded of this quote by Jung, “No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.” These “hideous men” we listen to confront us with their logic and sadly many others logic. In the private ceremony of listening alone you are allowed to have these thoughts. Understanding that you can have these beliefs allows you to reject them. . . Q - What hideous opinion do you hold? . . Hideous here is the important word for the book. As who are these opinions hideous towards? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the uncomfortable feeling while reading is that you know people think like this. Or worse...have I thought like this? . . It turns out the audiobook is abridged despite saying it is not abridged. So I may have missed some incredible essays not chosen to include by the author himself. I’m still in the middle of #1Q84 and need to prioritize what I’m reading 🤷‍♂️ . . #briefinterviewswithhideousmen #davidfosterwallace #DFW #infinitejest

I read Maybe Someday years ago but I had forgotten how much I love this book. It’s probably my favorite romance/YA book. It is cheesy and beautiful and dramatic and I love that shit so much. I re-read it because I wanted to read the sequel, Maybe Now. I happen to be a sucker for fairytale romances and Colleen Hoover never falls short. Extremely cheesy, made me laugh, made me blush, I read both books in less than 24 hours because I had a need to finish them immediately. I fell completely in love with these characters and their stories and the fact that the books were spread across different characters made it more enjoyable. I read the novella Maybe Not several years ago and I enjoyed it but didn’t feel the need to read it again. If you love a good cheesy romance this is for you! #shortbookreview #bookreview #colleenhoover #maybesomeday #maybenow #bookboyfriend #favoritebooks

"It took me a long time and most of the world to learn what I know about love and fate and the choices we make, but the heart of it came to me in an instant, while I was chained to a wall and being tortured." So begins this epic, mesmerizing first novel set in the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Shantaram is narrated by Lin, an escaped convict with a false passport who flees maximum security prison in Australia for the teeming streets of a city where he can disappear. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, the two enter Bombay's hidden society of beggars and gangsters, prostitutes and holy men, soldiers and actors, and Indians and exiles from other countries, who seek in this remarkable place what they cannot find elsewhere. As a hunted man without a home, family, or identity, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums, and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The search leads him to war, prison torture, murder, and a series of enigmatic and bloody betrayals. The keys to unlock the mysteries and intrigues that bind Lin are held by two people. The first is Khader Khan: mafia godfather, criminal-philosopher-saint, and mentor to Lin in the underworld of the Golden City. The second is Karla: elusive, dangerous, and beautiful, whose passions are driven by secrets that torment her and yet give her a terrible power. Burning slums and five-star hotels, romantic love and prison agonies, criminal wars and Bollywood films, spiritual gurus and mujaheddin guerrillas---this huge novel has the world of human experience in its reach, and a passionate love for India at its heart. Based on the life of the author, it is by any measure the debut of an extraordinary voice in literature. . #indianblogger #india🇮🇳 #indiagram #indianwriters #bookstagram #bookblog #bookreview #bookrecommendation #booksofinstagram #igreads #readinglist #readersofinstagram #bookoftheday #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #bookcommunity #bookgram #tbr #booklover #bookphoto #bookphotography #bookish #bookclub #bookjunkie #bookporn #readersofig #instabooks #instareads

Thank you @thebookoholics for the review copy. 🌞 This is my first mythology book. Thousands of years ago, Indian Yogis possessed the knowledge to obtain the weapons of the gods. However, this knowledge could only be transferred from a Guru to his disciple by word of mouth. In today’s world, one mystic, who calls himself Guruji, still possesses this knowledge and is using it to empower an innocent person’s life. 🌞 The story starts with Shankar who works in a IT company in Bengaluru. He suddenly hears an unfortunate incident has happened to his father & returns to his hometown Gopalpur. Where his grandfather narrates a story to him how a 13 year old boy gets lost on school trip. When grandpa finishes the story Shankar realizes it has some connection to his family. It is not just a fiction story. So he starts to connect the dots & discovers the truth. 🌞 The flow is smooth & language is simple. The plot has some thrill. I love how the author has created a fusion by mixing veda & modern science. Though in the middle it loses his balance especially the love story part. But again it picks up. It keeps you hooked till the end.The way it ended seems like the author is planning for a sequel. The title & cover make sense. Divyastra = Pashupatasta + Vaishnavasta + Brahmastra. 😯 I didn't like it! 😯⁣ ⁣ Am I the only one?⁣ ⁣ *some spoilers*⁣ ⁣ I should start by saying this is not a genre I typically like, but I thought the premise sounded interesting. So I guess it's my own fault. That, and reading it right after a Pulitzer prize winner 🤦‍⁣ ⁣ The chapters alternate between Tiffy and Leon's pov. The writing style for Leon is bizarre and distracting. Why does it have to be different? I'm pretty smart - I can tell which character is which. Also, the chapters are labelled "Tiffy" and "Leon."⁣ ⁣ Tiffy is an assistant book editor who gets paid below London living wage. She hasn't looked for a better position because she gets to "read and craft for a living." I know it's important to like your job, but come on. Who would accept that wage for that job? Then there's Leon, a hospice nurse who gets to choose not to work weekends. Any nurses out there? Is this likely??⁣ ⁣ What bothered me for a huge chunk of the book was how two strangers can alternate sleeping in the same bed WITHOUT CHANGING THE SHEETS. Gross! Oh, we'll just sleep on our own sides. No! Gross!⁣ ⁣ The coincidences in this book were ridiculous. Oh, you need all these knitted items to photograph asap for the book you're working on? Well one of my patients just happens to be an amazing, super-fast knitter! Oh, your brother was wrongly imprisoned? Well my best friend just happens to be an amazing criminal lawyer! 🙄⁣ ⁣ Oh dear. So cheesy, so predictable. It did have some cute moments, for sure, but not enough to save this one for me.⁣ ⁣ ⭐⭐⁣ ⁣ #bookreview #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #booksofig #reading #bookworm #bookaddict #goodreads

It's uncanny how people think about the consequences of their decisions and actions but never think of it when they are taking it. The story revolves around a hyder power project in the ranges of Dhauladhar. I absolutely love the characters and the intricate webs they are connected with. The back stories of each and every character give great insight into their actions. Like everyone, these characters also have certain needs and wants from life. My reading life in 2019 is amazing, mostly because I discovered @annebogel and her Modern Mrs. Darcy through the @Happier in Hollywood Facebook Group. Lots of people listed her challenge on their 19 for 19 list. So, after a little googling and checking out Anne's site, I realized my reading life could use a little shot of excitement. Pleased to say that tonight I hit Book Number 50... which was my Goodreads Goal for the entire year. Number 50 was Waiting for Tom Hanks by @kerrywinfrey finished tonight. Let's see if I can get to 100 books this year?! Here is my review of the book... Sweet and funny, while also completely endearing. Winfrey has taken elements of tv and movies and blended them into a well crafted book turned rom-com. Being a midwesterner, I especially loved how she made German village of Columbus, Ohio almost come across as a character. I've now added a visit to Bookloft to my list. I did have a little trouble warming up to Annie, the main character. I'm much more of a Chloe. I can't wait to see where the story goes next. #bookstagram #mmd #MmdSummerReading #goodreads #ReadingChallenge2019 #HappierInHollywood #bookreview #indiebookstore #bookloft #19for19 #WaitingForTomHanks

3.5/5 I had higher expectations for this book. I’m still looking forward to watching the TV show because I think this story will shine in that medium, but I think this narrative felt a little garbled together. You learn at the end that Gaiman and Pratchett wrote this in separate locations before email was invented so I get how the story could get that disconnected feeling. Also I think the humor was overhyped. Some of the jokes didn’t age well and some of them didn’t make sense because I’m not British. And it was that British humor that doesn’t always do it for me (currently feeling meh about Fleabag, the TV show that everyone loves). I just didn’t connect much with many of the characters although I feel like I’ll love the angel and the demon on screen in a way I wasn’t able to in the book. Anyone have thoughts on this book vs the TV show?? #goodomens #neilgaiman #terrypratchett #bookreview

jennicareads. I love this book. I love Kristen and Josh and Sloan and Brandon. LOVE

I love this book. I love Kristen and Josh and Sloan and Brandon. LOVE them. I couldn’t keep the smile off my face even just a few pages in. But I loved the first 2/3 of the book infinitely more than the last 1/3. It’s like I’d been set up to expect a certain type of book, and then it changed partway through to a completely different style of story. It was still good, but it left me shell-shocked and uneasy. That being said, I’m still giving it 5 stars. The chemistry and dialog are great, the conflict genuine and complicated. It tackles hard issues like infertility, grief, and emotionally abusive parents. Infertility is a hard topic to cover because there are infinite variables and possibilities, but I think Jimenez did well for this character. . . . . . . . . . . #TheFriendZone #AbbyJimenez #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #booklove #booknerd #bookish #bookworm #bibliophile #booklover #igreaders #reading #bookaddict #romancebooks #romancereads #YAromance #ireadYA #bookpic #bookaddiction #booksofig #iloveya #currentlyreading #bookreview #reading #bookshelf #bookish #bookaholic #yalit

Hello Everyone. What are you reading this week? A very nice book written by Author David J Schwartz. I liked the concept of the book which very well justified its title. "Do what you fear & fear disappears". Nobody is perfect or superman or superwoman. Everyone is an ordinary person. The more strong your confidence will be the less you will be prone to fear. Successful people always try to do their best, they face failures while being strong & keeping their spirits high while walking through a journey to success & lead an example for others to follow that's what makes them a good leader. #Bookreview, #bookreading, #booklibrary, #bookshelf, #bookclub, #bookshelves, #booklovers, #bookstagram, #book , #bookworm #bookaholic , #bookish #bookobsessed #positivethoughts #positivevibes #bookshop

💖 B O O K R E V I E W 💖 . Well hello my little nerdlings! I just finished up Dark Shores by @danielleljensen and I adored it! I'm seriously digging the whole enemies to lovers trope. I've been reading a lot of books with this type of romance in it and I'm thinking I love it so much because of the psychology behind it. But anyhoooooo... . I loved the mythology and world building in this novel. I actually really wish we got more of it! The story itself was engaging and interesting although I believe there could have been some fleshing out. Maybe we'll get an extended version someday! Also very likely set up to be a series because there was A LOT unresolved by the end and yes, I was left wanting more! . Booksleeve by @thelitluminary use ELLEN10 for a discount!
