🦎 🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎 There are so many incarnations of lizard pose. Here is one of my favorite lizard progressions. 🦎 Each pose in this progression has the back knee lifted (there are other variations with the knee down, but these all have a lifted back knee). . 🦎 There are three main keys for this pose progression:. . 🦎 1) super lift your BACK INNER THIGH UP so that the femur bone is buoyant and lifting up in the hip pocket towards the ceiling! I see so many students really dumping the back thigh towards the floor in this pose which stresses the hip flexors, papas, and joints. . 2) CORSET YOUR CORE, and especially lift your lower abdominals up. Core work along with a lifting back leg helps you work towards leg behind the head, and bound and floating variations because it gives you support and space without tweaking hips or psoas to force tho poses. Strength and support first! . 3) UNTUCK YOUR TAILBONE! Reach the spine long in two directions. When you tuck your tailbone here it might feel like you are better supporting the pose, but in fact you are flattening and compressing the low back, shortening the hamstrings and psoas, and stressing the hip joints. So, rather than tuck the tailbone to support this pose, use your core strength and respect the lumbar curve! . 4) if you feel sway backed, pull your FLOATING RIBS UP AND IN to support the mid back while keeping your tailbone long (not tucked). This takes so much strength and awareness! . . Maybe you have heard some yoga teachers say “thighs back” before? I hope so! - even though the instruction is a bit imprecise.
