As he grew, his spine started collapsing onto his heart and lungs, making it harder for him to breathe. A life-saving surgery at New York– Presbyterian Hospital (@nyphospital) gave him a “new body.”

Ela tem 14 parafusos na coluna, mas ter escoliose não a impediu de viver uma vida normal e muito menos de praticar esportes ❤ Segue abaixo: • Quando encontro algum obstáculo difícil na minha vida, sempre procuro encará-lo de frente e lutar pra conseguir resolver aquele determinado problema, e com a minha cirurgia da coluna não foi diferente. Enquanto todos da família estavam com muito medo, Deus me deu uma força inimaginável ( só quem tem fé sabe do que estou falando ), segurou na minha mão, e me deixou tranquila durante todo o processo de consulta, exames, cirurgia, recuperação... Nada foi encarado como um problema pra mim, e sim como um desafio que eu tinha que enfrentar e mostrar pros outros que eu conseguiria ( e todos também ). • Na época em que eu e minha mãe estávamos olhando a minha festa de 15 anos ( faltava uns 6 meses ), descobrimos o problema : escoliose bem acentuada, e não tinha outro recurso: eu precisava operar ou conviver com aquilo pra sempre. Não pensei meia vez, e escolhi operar ao invés de fazer a festa ( na época ficava mais ou menos o mesmo valor ). Esperamos minhas férias da escola pra fazer a cirurgia, que seria em Ribeirão Preto. Janeiro chegou, precisamente dia 18, e Deus continuava me dando muita tranquilidade, serenidade e força. Operei, foram as semanas ( ou meses ) mais difíceis da minha vida, porque era difícil levantar, era difícil sentar, era difícil olhar pro lado, ir ao banheiro, agachar, etc... mas eu levava tudo com muita fé, amor, e como se fosse algo “normal” ( e pra mim é ). Hoje, quase 9 anos após a cirurgia, agradeço a Deus pela força que Ele me deu naqueles tempos difíceis, e continua me dando até hoje. Devemos encarar todos os problemas nossos, como algo motivador. • Deus sabe da nossa capacidade de enfrentar tudo, e só Ele nos dá a força necessária. Nunca pense que só você sofre, só você tem problemas, porque todos têm, mas muitas pessoas não expõem. Agradeça a Deus sempre, e tenha fé em tudo que for fazer. "Com Ele tudo posso, sem Ele nada sou." E não esqueçam, com Deus, força de vontade, humildade e sorriso no rosto, a gente consegue o que quiser!

Place your focus on that art project that you never got round to finishing, or that new recipe you always wanted to try out. Mindful activities help you get out of your own head, and the creative satisfaction that comes from trying something new is a great pain distraction. . . 2️⃣ Give your attention to someone else. A great antidote to physical or emotional pain is to help others who are also suffering. Whether that be reaching out to a friend going through a breakup, or volunteering at your local homeless shelter. Studies have shown that the very act of giving can have a positive effect on chronic pain, because it increases your sense of purpose and life satisfaction. . . 3️⃣ Treat yourself with compassion. When you are in pain is the most crucial time to be kind to yourself. Naturally you are going to want to become a sloth, eat crap food, and consume media that makes you feel worse about yourself. . ⭐️Try to keep a regular routine: continue doing exercise, even if it is only a walk around the block- ⭐️Continue eating nutritious food, this will improve your mood and promote healing. ⭐️ As much as you can, block out negativity- try to surround yourself with only positive input.. . . ⭐️Core Strengthening Thoracic Stretch⭐️ . ⭐️When you have Scoliosis, you tend to have limited range of motion in your upper body- This makes regular ab crunches difficult to perform. Here is a solution that will not only blast your core, but it also provides a delightful stretch of the thorax at the same time. 😊 . 1️⃣Place a foam roller at the bottom of your shoulder blades. 2️⃣Pop your hands either side of your head 3️⃣Extend your legs in front while extending your arms and head behind you 4️⃣Bend at the knees and use your shoulder blades to crunch your body into the centre 5️⃣If this is too difficult, try leaving your legs on the floor and just focusing on extending from the top of the head 6️⃣3 sets, repeat 8-10 times . . ⭐️For more Scoliosis exercises check out ‘Scoliosis Warrior Workout Guide’ (link in bio) ⬆️

⭐️The Most Relieving Scoliosis Exercise⭐️ . ⭐️This is one of my Top 3 favourite exercises for relieving the pain of Scoliosis. Start by stretching your tightest side first, (generally with Scoliosis- the muscles on the concave hollow side are shorter and need the most lengthening).⭐️ . 1️⃣Pop a foam roller under your hips 2️⃣Slide your arm under the opposite side (palm facing up) 3️⃣ Externally rotate your hips up whilst stretching your hand overhead 4️⃣Return to starting position. You should feel a gentle loosening ob the tight side 5️⃣Repeat 6-8 times, then switch to the other side . . . ⭐️Click the link in my bio for more Workouts ⬆️⭐️

I saw my scar today & it's healing really, really well 🙆‍♀️ Oftentimes there are wound healing issues with EDS. I'm very fortunate to not have that problem. My Scars, a poem. . It’s not easy trying to heal from past abuse when the people that should be understanding, condemn you for not handling it the way they want you to. It’s sad how people try to manipulate survivors and victims to make them feel guilty for being hurt by what happened to them. They accuse the person of not letting go, accuse them of being selfish, make them seem petty, trying to make themself feel better for never helping or protecting or taking action when the abuse came to light. Well I’m here to say that no one should minimize another person’s experience, tell them how to deal with it and make them feel bad for speaking up about how they were wronged. So I did it. I got to the gym. I did the run/walk. I did the lifting I wanted to do. I got into my zone. Training alone is what I need right now...though I do miss my swole sister...but I don’t like feeling like I’m bringing someone else down or holding them back and I also don’t want to feel like I have to prove something. Being alone in my head can be good or bad, but when I can truly focus inward and listen to my body, I feel at peace. Today, that’s what I found. It wasn’t an epic lift or run...but it was moving my body, getting my heart pumping and my muscles activated. And something is always better than sulking and feeling sorry for myself and doing nothing. THIS is how I will make the progress I need to accomplish my goals. I wore my #beast @junkbrands headband and @spartan elite wrist band to remind me of what I’ve been able to do despite other odds. Posted this to my story last night because I was nervous about putting it on my feed and looking stupid🤦🏼‍♀️. Simply because I feel like I should be able to press into a handstand now, and I’m embarrassed that I can barely hold a regular handstand for more than 5 seconds. But why? Why am I comparing myself to other people? We don’t have the same build or same exercise journey or same practice, so why is it so easy to make this assumption that we can hold poses in the same way? In the way I’m working on my handstand, I need to work on my mentality when going into inversions or poses I’m “not as good at as other people.” I may get there, I may not, but yoga is about a consistent practice. Put in the work and you will reap the benefits. They may be small at first, but growth and all is coming. Aaaand dat’s it🙃

More ups than downs I would say 👍 I had an appointment with my GP who was happy as my temperature had finally gone down and I also finally had a lower pulse rate (every time I went before it was over 120bpm 🤦🏼‍♀️). All better signs 😊 ———————— I have been out almost every day walking either around a shop to get bits and pieces or just having a stroll around our house 🚶‍♀️trying to build up each day and get my strength back! ——————— I have struggled a little bit with neck ache this week, sleeping was going well but I now keep tossing and turning again (well log rolling 😂) I have a physio appointment next week so I can talk to them about this and see what I can do to try and relieve it. I'm 6 weeks post-shoulder surgery, on the upside to being recovered and released from doctors orders🙌, and 1 week back into CrossFit. Even though I can't lift heavy weights or reach full ROM doesn't mean I have to give up everything entirely. 👉It's called.....drummmm rooolll 🥁please.... MODIFICATION! Instead of backsquat, KBS, & burpees coach modified it to front rack split squat (focusing on front rack position-which I have to really fight for), RKB, bench burpees all with light weight followed by a 400m run buy-out. 10# db can still burn your ass🍑. Don't underestimate the power of lighter weights.
