How many of you spend about 90 percent of your day trying to roll your shoulder back and hold it there because it keeps rolling forward? Pulling it down because it keeps raising? Sit up straighter because your body keeps slouching? Constantly adjusting, twisting, stretching something that feels out of place ?? . I tell clients this all the time that information is extremely valuable to us! Those feelings are part of the body’s way of telling us what it needs. . The problem is, trying to do any of the things listed above is NOT helping the body. It’s working against it! . The body chooses its position to maintain balance of tension. The brain/ nervous system are making trillions of calculations a second to give us the ability to move and stand upright. Everything it does in regards to our position is ON PURPOSE. . So when you are forcing “good posture” you are trying to oppose what it is trying to do to help you maintain balance. It only ends up making things WORSE. This is why most of us feel like our body is working against us. Really, WE are working against it. . Just stopping this habit is actually a great step towards aligning with our body again. Sciatica is when the nerve that runs from your hip to you feet is irritated... There are many reason why the nerve gets irritated, and finding out WHAT and WHAT has caused it is crucial. Once you've found out you can begin to take the steps to fix the problem, which will result in decreasing the pain, then start working on the reason why it came in the first place. There are ways you can try and get some relief, place an ice pack over the area for 20 mins, after this get up, move and do some gentle stretching and mobilisation of your low back(get on YouTube and have a look, there's a wealth of information out there). Avoid time sitting as this can further irritate the nerve.
