Hollow back loveeeee 💗 - I’ve been practicing this stance on my forearms for just over 2.5 years now, and in just the past few months I have found a new level of comfort in handstands with my hollow backs and drop gaze. It’s no coincidence, having logged so many hours on my forearms I feel wayyyy more confident approaching all the same shapes in my handstand practice. ✅ - It always surprises me how often I see people skipping past forearm stands and going straight to handstands!! Yes, forearm stands are hard! Even harder than handstands for a lot of people with tight shoulders and chest. But they give you a lower centre of gravity and much more surface area to work with, and are a perfectly reasonable place to learn a lot of advanced shapes and movements... all while building a lot of valuable strength for handstands 🙌🤸🏻‍♀️ - Shake up your practice and don’t skip the basics, whatever that may look like for you 🙏💪✅

#POSEOFTHEWEEK TIGER POSE / Vyahgrasana . . . 'Vyaghra' means 'Tiger' in Sanskrit and here this pose depicts the posture of a tiger. The body is stretched deep and is compared to that of a tiger stretching its body when it wakes up. Hence the name Vyaghrasana (Tiger Pose). This pose is done on fours where the spine is stretched to the maximum giving a great opening to the hips and the thighs. This pose is generally done from the Cat Cow Pose position. . . . How to get into the pose: 1. On your hands and knees in Table pose, inhale the right knee to the forehead, rounding the spine. 2. Exhale reach the right foot up towards the ceiling, arching the spine and looking up at the ceiling. 3. Inhale the forehead to knee and exhale the foot up 4-8 times. Optional: exhale with a “Haaa!” sound out of the mouth. 4. To release: exhale the knee back down to the floor into Table pose. 5. Repeat on other side. Benefits of Tiger Pose: •Exercises and strengthens the back as you bend it alternatively in both directions •Tones the nerves in your spinal cord •Alleviates sciatica by relaxing the sciatic nerves •Loosens your leg and hip joints •Stretches your abdominal muscles • Induces great metabolism •Stimulates blood circulation •Aids in weight loss Do not do if you: Have recent or chronic injury to back, hips and knees. . . . Problem is we all get so caught up on being as open as possible it seems ridiculous to most that strength actually helps flexibility and most important a HEALTHY back is one that’s not only mobile (notice I use mobile not flexible) but strong too.
