Officially upping my stretching routines and training. 🧘‍♀️ I’m actually quite amazed at how including more blocks for my splits has helped! (Also not as painful as I thought it would be).🍷 I have a tendency to never feel good enough in anything I do but I really am proud of how my training is going. Especially because I started with no flexibility and always have tight hips/hamstrings. Because of my background, I often let my scientific side take over and that’s how I often approach asanas (and the making of these calendars) too. A gradual and correct build up, as well as repetition, are essential elements to improve flexibility. It’s not about forcing ourselves into difficult poses, it’s about giving our bodies time to open up, invite areas that don’t normally engage, to do so, maintain a steady breath throughout and calm the inner chat. The challenge is divided in groups of 4 so, poses from day 1-3 will help build up for day 4 and so on. This way, you can revisit and practice again that little chunk of the month (remember, repetition is KEY!). We’ll cover several Wheels, Viparitas, inversions with backbends, Eka Padas etc, all packed in 4-groups, so you can do them as part of your daily peak poses. Even if some seem unachievable, the idea is to plant the seeds, develop healthy habits, discover (and correct!) the not-so-healthy ones, stretch body & mind, hold ourselves accountable and have a great time. Never stop dreaming, I PROMISE YOU, if I did these with an average spine bending and plenty of shoulder issues, you can too! It’s a matter of patience, consistency and surrendering. Besides my daily post with detailed instructions, my fellow yogis Jinny @jinny.suh.00 and Garry @gmcyoga, will provide very doable alternatives so nobody stays behind. Day 15 of #FourSeasonsYogis ☀️🍁❄️🌺 is Sunday which means a rest from asana and time to reflect on the seasonal theme. Today we're sharing out favourite season. This is a hard one! I lived in Dubai for 7 years so it was basically HOT or really f**king HOT all of the time. I've been home in the UK for a year now and I'm loving actually having seasons! I love summer because I love the sun, ICE CREAM 🍦 and summer holidays, but I obviously don't get to enjoy the beach as much in Lancashire 😂 but it is lovely and green here! I love the Spring and the Autumn because of all the colours and I also don't mind all the rain ☔ And I love winter because of the SNOW ☃️ Christmas is my favourite time of year....and also my birthday is in the winter 😁 . . . I have been working towards having my back leg parallel to floor in this bow & arrow pincha since the day I found my balance in this shape. Based on my IG post, it happened some time in early September last year. IG has somehow turned into my little diary 😂 Sometimes I am glad that I wrote all these trivial little nothings in my captions that no one cares about because I just couldn’t think of anything better to write. And now, some of those nothing has become something to me. My back leg somehow managed to dip past my goal for a split second or so 😇 It made me momentarily happy when that happened but it doesn’t make a difference to my practice. In every practice, I still aim to get that leg parallel. Some days it happens & some days it doesn’t. The practice continues no matter what. Swipe to see my inch by inch progress in this pincha shape. The progress is a combination of strength & flexibility. I could feel that have more space in my upper body to push out my chest more & more stability in my shoulders to support the bend. Always grateful for this practice 🙏🏻 ▫️ Apparently progress photos are frown upon by some in this community but I personally love looking at others progress photos. Their progress encourages me a lot & makes me feel more hopeful that maybe one day those impossible poses may become possible with practice. I know yoga is not all about the asanas but the process of learning an asana teaches us a lot of other intangible values too like learning to be more patience, respecting our body limitations, and training our will & determination.
