Wild Thing is one of my favorite poses to open the stomach meridian line. . . . Where is the stomach meridian and why should you care? The stomach meridian runs from the outside shine, outside thigh, through the hip flexor, next to the belly button, up through the nipple and ends just below the eye. (Swipe ➡️ to see) . . . Hump Day Calls! Played around in #camelpose and #Backbends in general today. This was trickier than it looks and the first time trying it. <3 I tend to go in waves of where I play. I practice over and over then hit a point then start adding a new space to grow around and into. Before this it was inversions and before that one arm and shoulder work/opening. Maybe splits next! Backbends are the simple everyday necessities that show us the union of courage and love in action. In many ways, backbends are made more complicated than they really are—if part of your daily diet, sequenced appropriately, and supported to meet you where you are at, they prove their necessity through how alive you feel. . To lift into our hearts we must contact our ground, stabilize from the earth of our beings—otherwise, we become overstimulated. While this exhilaration can be tempting, we lose our connection to our core (and feel a bit like when I go out for a latte these days—the espresso is seemingly ten times stronger than what I make at home!). . By remaining connected, we can bridge between me (self-centered) and we (all-inclusive totality)—can sense our inner fullness (through the suppleness of our spines, sense of breathed vitality) while opening our hearts and directing our minds outward. Physically, tension in the pelvis is released, blood flow is increased, and the muscles of the thighs and abdomen are especially strengthened. As a result, blocked energy is freed (especially repressed anger) and courage abounds. . The asana shown is one of my favorites, supported or unsupported Matsyasana (fish pose)—this backbend allows the spine to become fluid like that of a fish, promoting adaptability and the ability to go with the flow, trust the greater current. By opening more passively, we stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system thus allowing for further release/reordering within. Linger in this pose (really all poses) to allow for time and space to do their good work 🙏🏽♥️.

Day by day by day... I’m now slowly reaching my foot without the wall, without opening my hips. Whereas my quest to handstand was a matter of overcoming fear, these overhead backbends are a matter of softening, surrendering, allowing myself to open even as I maintain the stability of my base. ⁣ ⁣ My dreams have been helping me. So many nights I see myself catching my foot, flipping my grip, spinning the elbow outwards and up and effortlessly lifting my chest. As I do the “donkey work” (as they say in the Iyengar lineage) in my daily physical practice, by night my body and brain’s natural intelligence work to align the more subtle, the more energetic. This organism is truly incredible.
