New Lat strength test ___________________ When I first saw the TRX rows on my sheet for this month I didn’t realize how challenging these would be. The first few sets are great, but the superset with incline Y’s and lying external rotation is brutal! Arm pump by the end is pretty insane and my lats are burning. I particularly love how much I have to focus on my lats during the pull. Another benefit of these is you can vary the difficulty easily by changing the angle of your body. • If you’re going to try mixing these in be sure to look for the following in your form: •Nice straight body from neck to heels •Neutral neck position •Controlled pulling motion •Focus on lats and not arms •Keep your core tight • Give em a shot and let me know what you think! • If anyone has a work around for a hard surface to throw plyoballs into please let me know. I have a field that I’m going to be able to throw at, but the school would probably get mad if I used their wall 😅. Looking to generate more power as a hitter? - Have a hard time getting to a certain pitch? - Been told you need more hip shoulder separation? - Feel like you need to be more adjustable? - It’s not a mental issue or that you aren’t coachable! It could be that you lack the range of motion and more importantly the control of that range of motion of your Thoracic Spine or T-Spine. - I’ve posted this test before for baseball pitchers but T-Spine mobility is just as important for hitters, both baseball and softball. - It’s very common for softball players to have loose spines or extra range of motion but if you don’t develop the strength to protect this range of motion the body will react to protect. - Season to season you could lose this mobility and ultimately it could lead to lower back soreness. If you can’t get the motion from your upper back, it goes to your lower back. This soreness will limit power and potentially cause you to start swinging more with your hands and limit your ability to transfer power from your hips. - If this is you, don’t worry it’s pretty easy to improve this range of motion. The key is maintaining it and then getting STRONG. - Yes, that “core” strength that everyone (parents) say their kid needs..... 🙄 - Try out this test. The goal is to get your shoulders to rotate till they are perpendicular to the floor.
