Lots of you ask how I started my own yoga practice. It’s kind of a funny story. At a time I was a student at UC Berkeley studying Psychology. Majoring In Psychology was a no-brainer to me — I’ve always been fascinated with human behavior, people’s experiences, and consciousness. As a part of my program, I had to take several courses in developmental psychology where we were discussing brain and body development throughout the life course. One of the major landmarks in human development is a point at which the body and the brain shift gears from growth to aging. At a time, scientists believed it happens around the age of 25 (it was later updated to 27). I was 24. Around the same time, I decided to take a semester abroad in China, where I departed to a couple of months later. Mid-way through the semester in China I turned 25 and gained several pounds. Fast forward two months later, I finished the semester, left China, traveled through Europe for a month, and came back to the Bay. I was feeling low energy, my own absence of physical strength and a family history of spinal surgeries began to emerge from the depths of my mind, and the thought that my body is now aging just didn’t want to leave me. I was thinking to myself: “Well, sh*t, now I have to start taking better care of my body”. And so the search for physical activity to strengthen my body, get more energetic, and attend to my overall health began. Gyms were boring to me, team sports were hard to coordinate, dance was not physically challenging enough... Then I remembered — yoga! I heard previously that yoga was a great low-impact activity to build strength and find peace of mind. And there it was. The decision was made. I looked through the list of the nearest yoga studios, picked one (it happened to be a hot yoga practice), bought a cheap mat, and ventured to a class that was about to change my life.

I've been loving @a_healthypassion Gnocchi Primavera AHP130 lately.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Ingredients: ⠀⠀ 1 8 oz container fresh Gnocchi⠀⠀ 1 Leek⠀⠀ 8 Radishes⠀⠀ Snap Peas⠀⠀ Parmigiano Reggiano⠀⠀ 1 Lemon (Peel and Juice)⠀⠀ fresh Parsley ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Pantry:⠀⠀ Olive Oil⠀⠀ Celtic Salt⠀⠀ Red Pepper Flakes ⠀⠀ Kerrygold Butter⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Tools: ⠀⠀ Skillet⠀⠀ Knife⠀⠀ Cutting Board⠀⠀ Microplane⠀⠀ Vegetable Peeler⠀⠀ Glass Bowl⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Techniques:⠀⠀ (?)⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Directions: ⠀⠀ 1. Toast the gnocchi in a dry skillet for 3-4 minutes over medium heat until the gnocchi are light brown. Remove from the heat, set the gnocchi aside and wipe out the skillet. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 2. Fill a glass bowl with water. Thinly slice the white part of the leek and submerge in the water. Separate the rings and let the dirt fall to the bottom of the bowl. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 3. Add the leek to a skillet over medium heat with a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of Celtic Salt and red pepper flakes. Cook the leek for 2 minutes before adding the snap peas and another drizzle of olive oil. Cook for 3-4 minutes. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 4. Take 4 of the radishes, halve and thinly slice. (Set the other 4 aside for snacks or make quick pickles by thinly slicing and covering them in rice vinegar, a pinch of Celtic Salt and red pepper flakes for 10+ minutes). Once the snap peas have cooked for about 3 minutes, add in the radishes and cook for another 2 minutes. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 5. Peel the lemon and thinly slice the peel into thin strips. Add 2 tsp of lemon peel into the skillet as well as the juice of 1/2 of the lemon. Turn off the heat. Add 1/2 tbsp of Kerrygold butter, the gnocchi and 1/4 cup of roughly chopped parsley. Toss everything to combine. Plate and finish with the fresh parmesan and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Serve! ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Prep Ahead: This dish is best served immediately!
