|real talk tuesday|: I’ve always had a hard time maintaining female friendships 👯‍♀️ I grew up with two older brothers, work mostly with men, and feel comfortable in male company. But, there’s a certain level of emotionality & connection that I noticed was missing. I used to fall into a comparison trap around other girls so I removed myself from the situation entirely 🙅🏻‍♀️ It wasn’t until I did a lot of inner-work and built myself up that I became confident with who I was in female company. It’s something I vowed to work more on this year and even in the past week alone I’m pretty damn proud of myself 💃🏻 Last week I attended a blogger fitness event in NYC and forced myself to put myself out there & today I met an insta babe irl for a yoga class. 🧘🏼‍♀️Cosa si intende realmente per Yoga?🧘🏼‍♀️ • Lo Yoga non è solo saper stare a testa in giù o cercare di contorcersi il più possibile, ottenendo risultati quasi da acrobati. Lo Yoga non è una gara. Ma oggi ciò che più noto, in giro o sui social, è ahimè proprio questo; il messaggio che purtroppo più passa e viene trasmesso è... lo Yoga visto come una moda... ed io proprio non ci sto. Yoga vuol dire Unione, Unione di Corpo Mente e Spirito, Unione dell’Individuo con l’Assoluto. Patañjali diceva negli Yoga Sūtra... Yogas Chitta Vrtti Nirodhah: lo Yoga calma i moti della mente... È una delle prime cose che ho imparato 6 anni fa, durante il prezioso corso per diventare insegnante di Hatha Yoga ed oggi come ieri per me è esattamente così. Lo Yoga per me è una filosofia di vita, non è un’esibizione di ciò che ho imparato dopo 11 anni di pratica. Lo Yoga può cambiarti nel profondo se davvero lo desideri... Lo Yoga cambia le tue sinapsi, ti nutre nel profondo, cambia il tuo approccio agli eventi della vita, ti insegna che non esistono limiti fisici lì dove non esistono limiti mentali. Lo Yoga è qualcosa di davvero speciale e sapete come mi sento quando ci penso? Mi sento come se ne fossi pazzamente innamorata. Ed è proprio così, io amo immensamente lo Yoga e non potrei più vivere senza; sarebbe impossibile perché lo Yoga è proprio il mio modo di vivere e di sentire nel profondo la Vita. Mi sento grata, immensamente grata perché 11 anni fa sentii come un richiamo fortissimo nel voler entrare in quel piccolo centro Yoga, dove a lume di candela con in sottofondo il Mantra “Baba Nam Kevalam” e con davanti a me il bellissimo sorriso della mia prima speciale insegnante di Yoga che rendeva il tutto ancor più magico, ho fatto pace con la Vita dopo un periodo incredibilmente difficile e tortuoso. Es ist ein Aufmerksamkeitsstreichelprogramm für den im Alltag vergessenen Körper. Yoga ist ein treuer Begleiter an deiner Seite, der Trost spendet. Ein verlässlicher Partner der niemals weicht. Auch wenn du krank bist, dann übst du eben mental. ___________ Yoga ist vielmehr als ein Fitnessprogramm. Es umfasst den Zustand der Einheit, der Verbindung und der Vereinigung mit dem Göttlichen. Yoga ist eine aus Indien stammende philosophische Lehre, deren erste Techniken vermutlich bereits zwischen dem 5. bis 3. Jh. vor Christus entstanden sind. Ursprünglich war Yoga ein rein spiritueller Weg, mit dem Ziel durch Meditation zur Erleuchtung zu gelangen. Das Wort Yoga ist von der Wurzel yui abgeleitet, was anjochen, anschirren bedeutet. Die Wortwurzel spiegelt sich auch im deutschen Joch wider. Ein Joch ist ein Holzstück (Verbindungsstück) mit dem man ursprünglich die Zugtiere an einem Pflug befestigt hat. Bildlich geht es um die Verbindung von Körper, Geist und Seele. Im weitesten Sinne geht es um die Verbindung zum großen Ganzen.

Being present while experiencing new and exciting events isn’t the challenge. Being fully present in the day-to-day “mundane” tasks is the true challenge... . One of the things that put me off an Ashtanga practice for so long was the idea of how unexciting it would be to do the same thing every single day - same poses, same sequence... what’s the point of that? But over time, I’ve started to appreciate its value. . We are always looking for new and exciting things to keep us entertained - the next new challenge, the next vacation, the next big purchase... the list goes on. Perhaps over the years we may have assumed that joy can only be experienced through exciting events or ventures. And because of that, we tune out all the “boring” day-to-day events of our lives - getting ready in the morning, preparing meals, walking to work... . But these little boring moments of our day-to-day life adds to the sum of our lives. And when we allow ourselves to be present during those moments, we may start to see how different they can be every single day... We start to notice the subtlety of those differences. We start to appreciate its uniqueness. . It’s these “boring” moments that make up the majority of our lives. And as an Ashtanga student, it’s on the mat that we practice to be here - to be fully present - in the day-to-day grind. . #ashtangayoga #practiceandalliscoming

✨Lesson from the mat✨ 'Good-vibes' only just isn't going to cut it on my mat. There has been such a huge emphasis of late that Yogi's need to be positive vibes and positive thoughts only. Does this expectation keep you away from your mat? If I felt that every time I got on my mat I had to be in a great mood, I frankly wouldn't make it there half the time! ✨ ✨ My practise is the place I arrive with all my joys and all my sorrows. I show up in a good mood and I show up in a foul mood. I show up when I'm inspired and kicking goals, and I show up when i've convinced myself the world is ending. #truth ✨ ✨ At times my mat feel like the only place I can truly be myself. I don't have to worry about being perfect or looking the part. I don't have to worry about playing the part or being polite for someone else. My mat is often the only place I can completely dive into the ultimate indulgence it is to be myself. ✨ ✨ Don't get me wrong, good vibes are... well good. But we are missing a huge chunk of the exploration that is Yoga if we don't acknowledge our dark sides too. The practise becomes less transformative if we don't give ourselves the opportunity to practise through all of our moods. ✨ ✨ So the next time you see a 'positive-vibes only' post, rather than suppressing the urge to punch that person in the face or feeling less about yourself because you just can't keep that smile on your face. Remind yourself, that what the world benefits the most from are people who a real and authentic. People who are able to practise patience, understanding, forgiveness and compassion, and most often these qualities can only truly be practised when we are faced with darkness.
