When you take the stairs, walk the extra block or dance around in kitchen sans pants, it all counts. Infuse movement into your day and pay attention to the ways you can be more active. Cumulative activity counts and paying attention pays off.โ € โ € We love Pilates for SO MANY reasons (like, we canโ€™t even list them all here) but one of the largest is because when you leave the studio, the lessons leave with you. Only YOU heal you! ๐Ÿ’— The journey of healing from an injury is a turbulent one full of ups, downs, frustration, and excitement. Curiosity should be the main driver of these twists and turns because if you keep asking the questions, eventually youโ€™ll get some profound answers. Itโ€™s important to consult the people you have access to such as doctors, physical therapists, message therapists, acupuncturists, Pilates teachers, and energy healers (the list goes on!). At some point though, they are going to have to let go of your hand and you are going to be in charge of making your pain go away. This is the only way it works! I recently read a story about a man who fell out of a window and became completely paralyzed. He had an extremely slim chance of regaining movement from the neck down. Day after day, he laid in the hospital bed and imagined himself walking out of the hospital. Over the course a few months he was able to leave the hospital with only the support of a walker. This happened even after a nurse, with the best intentions, told him he should start focusing on life as a paraplegic. Itโ€™s true he had a lot of support from the doctors and nurses at the hospital. Itโ€™s also true that the mind is a powerful thing. โœจ Iโ€™m constantly in awe about how deeply intertwined our mind and body are. When we injure ourselves, often the repair work the body can do fairly quickly. What keeps the pain around is our nervous system, doing its job to protect us from getting hurt again, so we become ultra-sensitive and continue to experience pain. To dissipate this pain Iโ€™ve been working with the image of water flowing through my pelvis and legs. Wow- how quickly a nagging pain can disappear. ๐ŸŒŠ Dealing with chronic pain or a nervous system on overdrive, anxiety or burnout? I have a half hour meditation just for you!
