BUT, carbs aren’t the issue- when it comes to weight control it’s about calories in vs. calories out. . On the left I was depriving myself of carbs, trying to avoid them at all costs- feeling shitty, sacrificing social events and not being able to eat foods I loved- That’s not living! . If what you are dedicating so much time and effort to, isn’t putting a smile like this on your face, reevaluate your methods before you actually give up on your pursuit. More often than not, I come across people that believe the only way of acquiring their ideal physique is to do everything to the extreme. But unfortunately if that’s how you approach any weightlifting sport, you will most definitely plateau. The human body is highly complex and requires more than just countless hours of banging weights to see any sort of improvement in any sport such as bodybuilding, powerlifting, Olympic lifting, strongman, CrossFit and more. I’m not preaching take it easy in training and eat whatever you want... what I mean is, find your balance! There is a time and place to be training your max effort lifts and there is a time and place for you to slow things down and focus on details/accessories. The same way that there is a time and place to restrict yourself from certain types of foods, but that doesn’t mean that those foods should never be eaten. SAVE and SHARE this with your lifting partner if you’re trying to hit those biceps with this next exercise! - Hanging Hammer Concentration Curls should be incorporated into your workout for so many reasons! - First off those single arm bicep exercises are gonna be so much easier to isolate than both arms being that you only have to focus on one side! - Secondly the hammer grip is going to incorporate slightly more forearms while hitting the peak of your bicep a little differently than the palm up version! - And last, hanging like this is going to but you angle slightly deeper than a preacher curl allowing you to get a better squeeze at the top with out resting! - Make sure you keep the elbow fixed as if it was on a preacher pad. Starting position: Choose the appropriate weight matching your fitness level and training type. Grab the bar attached to the pulley using an underhand grip at shoulderwidth and sit on the machine seat with arms outstretched. Bend back slightly (a hint of leaning) but without lumbodorsal overarching. Keep holding the bar with your arms outstretched upwards in line with the pulley. Exercise: From the position of arms stretched upwards do the motion by flexing your elbows and pulling the cable towards your chest (contracting your back muscles). Exhale whilepulling the bar towards your body and inhale while returning to the starting position. Note: When bending back make sure that your torso does not engage in lumbodorsal bending. Lead your elbows slightly away from your body and do not bend your wrists. Keep your feet fixed on the floor. Recommendation: Start with lighter weight to master the technique well. *** Underhand cable pulldowns are similar to chin-ups but the exercise is done using a pulley. The correct grip is underhand and less than shoulder-wide. Alternatively you can use a v-bar attachment and neutral grip. The difference between overhand and underhand cable pulldown is not great. Both are targeting the same muscle groups, mainly lats and biceps. The same is true about the pull-ups and chin-ups. The main difference is that in underhand (or neutral) grip the arm is positioned more favorably for biceps muscle. Biceps and the surrounding muscles (brachialis, brachioradialis) are in “stronger” position and relatively less work is done by lats. The torso should lean backwards in an angle of about 30 degrees. I guarantee if you got stuck in a gym with only a barbell, plates, dumbbells, and a power rack, you would come out more jacked after 1 year of training opposed to being stuck in a gym with countless amounts of machines and equipment... - Exercises using free weights are a lot more disrupting (they are simply more difficult) and provide a lot more overload in the long run. I do believe there is a time and a place for using machines and cables, perhaps for workouts where you are wanting to manage CNS fatigue or just want to chase a quick pump (there are more reasons too)... - But let’s be real here. People avoid the basic exercises because they aren’t as sexy, are a lot more difficult, and can quickly humble MFs. - Now the key to avoiding plateaus with the select few of exercises done with barbells and dumbbells is to cycle through different variations of them during each new mesocycle... - You did Flat Barbell Bench for one month? Next month use Flat Barbell Bench with a wide grip.
