What are your goals? What are you working toward? Is there anything you would like to change? • Three things I’m grateful for 1. Family that travels hundreds of miles to see me and treats me like a princess every time 2. The sun shining, the wind blowing, and clean water 3. My health and the daily ability to move my body however I choose. Three things I’d like to work toward shifting/ changing 1. There was this one day four years ago when I sat on the floor of my bathroom crying. It was a few days after I got the news that I had breast cancer and the floor was covered by leaflets and articles from my oncologist on cancer types and information on how to live with the disease. In this moment I honestly didn’t know the way forward nor backward. Hope was gone and I was not sure how I would make it through to the next day. . . Flash forward four years and it turns out I did make it through. I am still here. I am healthy. Looking back, the weird thing is that I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Even the lowest of lows I do not wish away. Because in this moment I learned something invaluable to me. I learned that no amount of despair, fear or worries will change things that aren’t in my control. What matters most to me now is not where I am going, it is how I FEEL on the journey to the destination. I try to chose not to be afraid of what’s not in my control and instead try to enjoy all the beautiful things that have been given to me for as long as I possibly can... . . Grateful for sunny Saturdays. For birthdays, picnics, perfect sunrises with just enough clouds. Grateful for my practice. The chance that it gives me every day to not judge myself so harshly, to reorient with my true north, practice self love, devotion. Grateful for my people, my first call in a crisis, when my car breaks down, when “the one” turns out not to be, when a beloved patient dies. Those who sit on the other end of the phone without judgement or come over with ice cream. Grateful to love and be loved, to have known the fullness as well as the seeming emptiness, and knowing the latter still making the choice to fall into it again, and again, and again. Grateful for the gift of this life for another day to say Amen. . I took a little break from posting on here. I just didn't have much to share lately. I've been busy, I've been focused, I've been happy. But I didn't feel drawn to practice yoga, or post about it. I started to judge myself for it. If I don't feel the urge to practice, am I losing my passion for yoga? I realized the answer is no. It's okay to take a break from things. Life is all about balance. Catching up on #blissfullybalancedyogis I needed to find some balance off the mat for a bit.. but I'm back to finish 🤗 Day 3 is Toe stand of choice I rarely do this one so I wanted to visit it again. I'm surprised at how low my heel hung when I found balance Day 4 is #warrior3 my favorite warrior variation! Day 5 is half moon pose A foundation pose I definitely need more work on🙈 Day 6 #eaglepose getting easier to get into😊 at least today And final day is inversion of choice I went with #supportedheadstand I tried pincha but wasnt finding great balance today for straight up which is what I wanted to work on! INVERSIONS . *pats mat* come sit by me, and let’s chat about inversions ✨INVERSION✨ /inˈvərZHən/ In yoga, an inversion refers to poses in which the yogi's heart is at a higher level than the head . The heart is above the head . . . Inversions have NOTHING to do with where your legs are, and inversions do NOT require you to put all your weight in your hands and go totally upside down! If you’ve been to my class, you’ve done a few inversions already that you may have overlooked: Downward Dog, Forward Fold, Prasarita, Dolphin. . . Besides DD, this is my favorite inversion!! It’s half way between a handstand and a pike, and its the perfect way for me to find my balance without worrying about getting both legs overhead 🙃 . What we don’t see in these squares is the work that it takes to get to those postures. It’s all a practice, and it takes a lot of prep. A lot of behind the scenes work. A lot of patience. A lot of self-examination. A lot of failed attempts. A lot of staring at the fear of falling and believing in your own inner gangster. There’s no easy button to getting there faster, no shortcuts, just prep. Being blissfully balanced, to me, is the look of joy when I am fully present and get a little hang time, or the full bind, or a deeper back bend, but also honoring the days that aren’t often captured here.
