Fa la la FRIDAY 🎉🎊🎄 6 miles of hills to start the weekend. Fancy holiday party tonight, @eatalyboston with my bestie tomorrow, museum and Salem adventures with bae on Sunday!! Don’t know how I’m gonna squeeze workouts into all of that but I’ll do my best! Have a magical weekend! ✨
Honestly feeling AWESOME. Battled my way through a snowstorm to hit the gym this morning before work. Five easy miles on light limbs!! 🙌🏻Been working really hard on my nutrition over the last ten weeks and I can see and feel differences, which is SO exciting. The office is EmPtY today- good chance to catch up on old projects and maybe squeeze in a leg workout this afternoon. Later g8rs ❄️❄️❄️
DAY ONE. 🎉 Most marathon cycles are 16 weeks, but I give myself twenty. The first four I build up slowly, but I count them nonetheless. Today was the beginning of my spring training cycle! . . I’ve got GOALZ for 2020 (more on this later) and my success at MDI and a long break have really given me the oOmph I wanted for a fresh cycle. 🤩 Excited for this!!! . . Today was a mile warmup, 6 miles at 8:13 pace, and a mile cooldown. Kind of surprised that my average heart rate was 155- what’s up bod? Are we ready to go harder?? 😜
Another epic day of crosstraining / desperately trying to stay ahead of all the party calories we’re going to be consuming over the next month / also just doing what we enjoy. 😛 7+ miles and 6+ hours of clambering uphill in the snow. 💕
So I’ve started posting times again, when I haven’t in a while. I’ve struggled in the past with wanting all my runs to be super fast, and sharing times kept me from recovering correctly. But last cycle I felt like I slipped TOO far in the other direction, not pushing hard enough to make pace or challenge myself, because who would know but me? Running (currently) without a coach means all my accountability comes from myself, and some days (many days) I’m a pretty lenient mentor. 😂 By sharing times I’ve signed you all in as accountability buddies and mini-coaches, whether you like it or not!! 😜 Base rebuild starts next week, for now I’m still just having fun! Warm enough to run in shorts today- hurrah!
Today was a weird day. I got super worked up over something relatively small and insignificant- like cried three times kind of worked up. I went to the gym because I had said I would, and then I just sat against the wall for twenty minutes. FINALLY I forced myself to warmup with a walk on the treadmill, and after just a few minutes I started to feel better. Fast forward to a 10 mile run AND a full shoulders / triceps / core circuit and all I can say is, movement is medicine. 😊 Love taking my time in an empty gym on the weekends 💕
Not being in a marathon cycle has been awesome. 🙌🏻 I’ve been feeling so much more rested, I get out of bed in the morning without groaning, and my runs are short and unstructured. What’s cool to realize is that even though I’m not training for anything in particular, I still work out almost every day. Today I bopped down to the gym after work, thinking I would just foam roll for a while, and I ended up doing a full leg circuit. Movement feels GOOD. I can’t imagine life without it. I’ve decided not to run Millinocket half. It’s a big bummer, as I was really looking forward to it. But, my company holiday party is the night before in Boston. 😖 I opted for a glamorous dress and good times with my friends over a five hour drive to run 13.1 in probably freezing temps. 🤷🏼♀️ #basicbitch I’ve got my sights on a spring marathon though... I know I said I wouldn’t, but this break has been exactly what I needed. I still have over a month before real training starts... plenty of time to finish healing before jumping back on the crazy train. 😜
Red and sweaty and STRONG. 🥵💪🏻Working my way back into SPEED runs 🏃🏼♀️💨 I’ll be doing most of them on the treadmill as I rebuild my base and then jump into the next cycle- the extra cushioning for my shins trumps any downsides. 1 mile warmup .5 @ 730 .25 slow .25 @ 658 .25 slow 1 @ 730 .25 slow .25 @ 658 .25 slow .75 @ 730 .25 slow .25 @658 1 mile cooldown BOOM. 💥
I was planning to run 8 miles today, but opted for 7.5 of the outdoor step machine instead. 😜🏔❄️ Crosstraining FTW!
Happy Saturday!!! . . . Today was excellent.😊 After a truly manic week, I had a whole day to putz around my apartment, hang out with the cat, decorate for Christmas and just chiiiillllllll. I’m the kind of person that NEEDS to have time alone, I can’t recharge any other way. Having that today was exactly what I wanted. ❣️ Six miles on the treadmill while watching Queer Eye in JAPAN- this show gives me LIFE!!! 😍
Say hello to this elegant beauty- Kyoto! ⛩ So full of love for this wonderful, friendly girl, and so happy we could give her a permanent home for the holidays. #adoptdontshop
Full body strength circuit with my girl @wild.tula this morning 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 Neither of us was really feeling it, I know for me this week has been incredibly stressful and I have barely had a moment to breathe. But we pushed through and finished strong. Track workout on the agenda for tomorrow- but right now I just want to sleep... and it’s only 2pm!! 😫
4 easy miles this morning & a body appreciate moment. I’m working hard to get to where I want to be. Not just in running but from an aesthetic and strength perspective as well. I love feeling like my body can tackle anything and look good while doing it, and I’m going to keep pushing my own limits, past what I used to think was possible! I don’t want to stand in my own way, and most of that is the mental belief that “I could never do that”. Time to kick aside those limiting thoughts! Keep pushing forward! Okay, ramble over, it’s cold AF here today. 🥶 Happy Hump DaAAaAayyy 🐪🐫🐪
Not only was @mdimarathon my favorite race so far, they also gave out my favorite SWAG so far! Hell yah quarter zip in a super cute color and non-ridiculous design! High five to whoever picked these out. 🙌🏻 . . Worked a little harder today, with a 1.5 mile warmup 4 miles between 7:45-8:04 pace .5 mile cooldown It wasn’t easy to hold that pace for that long, but I think I’m ready to start turning my focus towards speed vs distance. Not ready for the weekend to be over... but then we never are. 😊
Five point five slow miles on technical- BeAuTiFuL- trails. @stephenmabbott and I almost wimped out on this one, but I’m so glad we didn’t! Running through the woods is my favorite. 😍 Also this guy who mountain bikes while I run and snaps pictures without me even asking is my favorite. ❣️ . . I’m amused at how sore my muscles are after two days of my usual cross training. Two weeks off will do that I suppose! Hope you all had a beautiful Saturday! 🌾
🎊RACE RECAP🎊 . . . Here you go folks, the finish line race photo in all its glory. 😂 Red faced, skin bouncing, seventeen chins and barely getting one foot in front of the other. . . . Mount Desert Island was far and away my favorite marathon, potentially even my favorite race ever! As you’ve seen, I struggled this summer trying to find the motivation to keep going. I seriously considered dropping out entirely. I went into MDI feeling like my fitness wasn’t where I wanted it to be, and knowing how hilly the course was, I set a goal to not worry about a PR, and only focus on pacing myself well. . . The weather was PERFECT, and I’ve never been on such a beautiful course before. I kept an eye on my heart rate and ran the hills slowly. I never felt the need to use my headphones, which was a first! We ran past the ocean, beautiful homes, and through the wooded edges of Acadia. At the halfway mark I felt fantastic, and started pushing the pace a little harder, realizing I had the potential for my first negative split. @stephenmabbott had driven to the finish line and biked back up along the course, and he found me here, and I had my own personal cheerleader at random points along the race thereafter, which was such a wonderful morale booster. ❣️ . . Things didn’t get tough until about mile 22. We had left the secluded beauty of the woods and were running alongside a busy interstate. Plus, miles 20-25 were a slow, steady, grueling incline. This is where things got hard. I only walked once, but I slowed considerably in those last few miles, as my mind started to give in, even though I’m sure my body could have kept going. . . . In the end I finished in 4:02:44. I had felt SO STRONG though nearly the entire race, and within an hour I was recovered and feeling like I hadn’t run at all! I had told myself I wasn’t going to run another marathon... but MDI was such a phenomenal success for me that I was immediately thinking... “how well could I do at my next one?” 😂
It feels good to be back. Like, SO GOOD. Work is completely nuts as I’m trying to catch up from vacation, but I forced myself to take a lunch today and headed down to the gym for a quick leg & shoulder circuit. I felt the burn! These muscles are out of shape, but the movements felt HEALING. I noticed some pain in my hip- probably from the halfway-around-the-world travel, so I spent some time stretching those out towards the end. 💪🏻 Happy Almost Friday!!! Ps- look at my adorable #popsocket- a baby fawn!!
When I was on vacation, I dreamt I was running, and it felt like flying... my comeback this morning wasn’t quite like that, 🥴 with several pounds of vacation weight along for the ride and my shoes feeling foreign and strange!! But I took it easy with four miles while the sun rose, and it feels so so good to be stepping back into things. I needed that break, I feel refreshed and recharged and ready for a new challenge! 😁 Throwing it back to the last time I ran, 18 days ago!!!! Definitely the longest I’ve taken from running in well over two years. Stress + rest = GROWTH.
Been MIA because... IM IN JAPAN!!! 🦀🍙🍣🍡🥢⛩ Hopped a plane four days after MDI and have been spending my recovery time in the greatest way possible: lots of temples, gardens, weird food and long walks. 😊 Heading home tomorrow and though I’ll certainly miss it here, I’m excited to get back into a routine and to pick up training for my next race, the Millinocket Half Marathon! Anyone else making the drive up north for that one??
