“Stay open, who knows, lightening could strike.” William Parrish ⚡️ . So many good things can come our way if we can just stay open to them. Two things in my life have taught me that lately... & they couldn’t be more different 😂 I’ve half heartedly entertained the idea of getting another chihuahua pup for a while, but I couldn’t help but worry a bit that as I loved Bodhi pup sooo much that it would spoil the dynamic we had, or that I would feel divided if I had two. I couldn’t have been more wrong. To me, it’s a wonderful reminder that our capacity for love in infinite... There’s more than enough to go around. So, here I am; crazy chihuahua lady... & I couldn’t be happier about it (swipe for the bonus Bodhi & Lila shot 😁) On the other hand, I’d pretty much given up on the whole handstanding thing until I saw a post about someone getting their first puppy press (& I cant even remember who it was!). Anyway, something about that post made me believe I could do it too... Week 3 is Dancer Pose, or Natarajasana 👩‍🎓 Dancer Pose builds full-body strength, flexibility & coordination. This pose increases flexibility in the spine, shoulders & hamstrings, as well as opening the chest & hips. It also stretches & strengthens the abdomen, ankles & thighs. 🎓 ALIGNMENT CUES: #omniyogagirltips 1. Ground down through all four corners of the standing foot 2. Pull up the kneecap of the standing leg to engage the quadriceps, & make sure the ankle, knee & hip are stacked 3. The hand holds the lifted foot, with the thumb pointing up as the foot presses away from the torso into the hand 4. Aim to keep the lifted knee in line with the hip, & the hips square with each other 5. Extend through the free arm & keep the fingers active 6. Believe it, or not, I always used to hide my face. It’s not something I’ve really talked about before, but since I was 14 years old I’ve suffered from acne... Now, it’s bad enough when you’re a teenager, but if I’d known I’d still be getting the dreaded spots well into my 30’s I would have cried 😭 I’ve tried everything... Creams, supplements, diet changes, medication... Nothing worked. Everyone else said they didn’t notice them, but every time I looked in the mirror I did... & it really knocked my self confidence. Buuut, for the first time in my adult life, my skin is clear, & I can only put it down to regularly taking CBD (from @lovehempuk ) for the last few months. Week 2 is Pose Dedicated to Bharadvaja, or Bharadvajasana 👩‍🎓 Bharadvajasana stretches the spine, shoulders & hips as well as massaging the abdominal organs. It is also thought to aid digestion, relieve sciatica, lower backache & relieve stress. 🎓 ALIGNMENT CUES: #omniyogagirltips 1. The right leg is bent backwards with the foot beside the right hip. The top of the foot is on the mat, & the knee joint closed 2. The left leg is in half lotus (this can be modified by crossing the left leg underneath you) 3. Twist to the left keeping the spine long - Imagine twisting from the pelvis 4. The left hand binds the lotus foot 5. The right hand is placed under the left knee with the fingers pointing inwards - Aim to get the palm flat on the mat 6. Ground down through both sitting bones 7. Draw the lower belly in, & move the shoulder blades down the back & away from the ears 8. The gaze, or drishti, is to the side (Parsva Drishti) . If you figured it all out today, what would be the point of tomorrow? Enjoy the process of being a work in progress 🙏 . Day 8 of #NamaslayAsanas is Forearm Stand or Pincha Mayurasana. Sooo, I’m probably a bit weird that I’m not scared of chinstand, but pincha really brings out the fear factor for me. Kicking up into pincha (& the very real possibility of going all the way over into forearm wheel) freaks me out, so I push up into it from headstand. I just need to figure out how to keep my balance without using the wall for support. Actually devoting some time to practicing it regularly would probably help me out 😂 Swipe to see a tutorial on how to press from headstand to pincha using the wall, & here are my favourite prep poses: . 1. Puppy Pose - Pincha requires a certain amount of flexibility in the shoulders... This pose will help with that! 2. Forearm plank - start working that shoulder girdle & core 3. Dolphin Pose - This works the ‘active’ strength & flexibility in the shoulders, as well as the core strength needed for Pincha. It also lengthens the hamstrings which will making kicking, or pressing up easier 4. Dolphin push ups - Serious shoulder strengthening... Your shoulders are going to be doing a lot of the work in pincha 5. Three Legged Dolphin Pose - Focus on stacking the elbows, shoulders & hips as much as possible. “As the crow flies - A popular & picturesque expression to denote a straight line” William Henry Maule 😁 . Day 7 of #NamaslayAsanas is Flying Crow, or Eka Pada Bakasana. I absolutely love armbalances, but for a long time this was my absolute nemesis (ps ever thankful you for the tips that the flying crow master @gwtrucks gave me 🙏). Finding that little nook just above the elbow to place the knee in, so you can stack your bones, & weight efficiently was the game changer for me. Swipe to see (a really old) ‘how to’ tutorial (look at my hair! 😂), & here are the prep poses that lead you towards flying your crow: . Prep poses: 1. Chaturanga - Work on that bent arm/tricep strength 2. Boat Pose - As I like to say in my classes, any crow pose is all about the core... CAW! (It’s yoga humour, just go with it 😅) 3. Crow Pose - Duh! 😋 Try long holds... Really get solid in your crow pose before you try flying it 4. Funky Flying Crow (with one forearm down) - Easier to balance in & a great way to feel which muscles to engage for full Flying Crow . Day 6 of #NamaslayAsanas is Chinstand, or Gan

Take it on the chin 😋 . Day 6 of #NamaslayAsanas is Chinstand, or Ganda Bherundasana, & honestly, I think this is one of those poses where you just have to feel the fear & do it anyway... It’s really not that bad, it’s just all about the entry (I think 😅). Sooo, quite frankly, kicking up into pretty much anything freaks me out. Not enough control. As a result, I made myself learn how to float up into chinstand, & now it’s one of the few inversions I feel truly comfortable with. Hopefully my ‘how to’ guide will help give you a sense of what I’m talking about & all the cues you need (swipe to see it). . Chinstand prep poses: 1. Puppy Pose - Open up the upper back, chest & shoulders (I need to do more of these - See how much upper back doesn’t bend at all 🙄) 2. Half Frog Pose (Bhekasana) - Stretches the chest, spine & has the added bonus of a hip flexor stretch 3. Chaturanga - Warm up the wrists, strengthen the triceps, shoulders & core 4. Locust Pose - Fire up the muscles along the back of the whole body 5. One Legged Chinstand variation - A great ‘stepping stone’ to the full pose. Feel free to take this as a modification if you’re not quite ready for a full Chinstand yet . Top tips for floating to Chinstand: Use a bit of momentum as you bring your weight forwards & really, really, really reach upppp with the leading leg. At the same time, squeeze your elbows in so that your torso has a bit of a ‘shelf’ to rest on for some extra support 👍 . If you have any questions, please don’t be afraid to ask! 💜 .
