For Day 8 of #ExtendingintoSpring I've done a modified prep pose for #EPK2 . I've lost some arm strength in the chatarunga form due to a lack of regular practice, but I noticed small improvements in my alignment! I haven't been in a great place mentally/ physically for a lot of this academic term, and my yoga practice has taken the brunt of that. I want to keep yoga for how it serves me now, not something I force myself into (like compulsive exercise). I want to keep it unhindered, intuitive, and free. So while some may say that in the rough patches is when I needed yoga the most, I feel I served my needs better for only doing yoga when I felt ready, and in doing that, in doing the postures I felt my body needed, even if they were minimal. This is what most of my practice consists of. A spontaneous 5 or 10 minutes of stretching and breathing in my day. Just dropping into whatever poses my current clothing, flexibility, and time allows, and directing my breath, energy, and attention where my body needs it. Although sometimes I'm still hesitant to post certain pictures on because it's not the most flattering angle, I'm so proud to be a non-typical yoga body on Instagram. Hopefully when people see my photos they won't be intimidated by yoga, and it will encourage them to try it if they want to. Yoga can be for all body types, personalities, backgrounds, and creeds. My ribs don't protrude like other yogis, my arms (and whole body) are much softer and more squishy. My tummy isn't flat. Yet I still experience all the amazing benefits of this practice and I can still find my edge within my practice. While the photos that yogis with these toned bodies produce are no doubt beautiful, there should also be a space for other bodies to have their practice seen, and even admired, as well. This was my first time doing a #forearmwheel, I've been trying this pose on and off since July, never quite able to get it until this photo. Yoga has provided my body and mind with so much healing, and a mentally healthy way for me to connect with and move my body, as other forms of exercise, and even that word, are still triggering to my eating disorder.
