#Bridgepose. Setu bandha sarvangasana. Setu means bridge. Sarva anga means all constituents of the body. Bandha means hold. At Manasa we interpret setubandha sarva anga as the bridge of energy/ awareness which holds together all the parts of the body. Infact one of the meaning of Asana is ‘the seat’. So can we take a seat on this great power which is unknown to us but which holds together and coordinates all functions of the body? This context is then expanded as the bridge between the individual and the universal; the known and unknown. Of course, integrated with the psycho-spiritual context is the neuro-physio-muscular context. In this aspect the shape of the pose reverses our pelvi-soinal-shoulder orientation. Normally legs are in front of pelvis whereas in bridge legs are behind or beneath the pelvis. This lengthens the psoas. Also the lumbar spines extension is expressed instead of the passive slouch flexion we subject it to during couch and car sitting. In terms of Shoulders , the arms are usually in front of chest and in bridge they are taken behind. So on all counts it’s a wonderful reorienting position. ☝️ To do this , What u need is couple of folded blankets and yoga blocks or some pillows/ bolsters. Lie down with head just off the blankets so that the cervical curve is protected. Lift the pelvis up and put the block or support under sacrococcegeal area. Straighten the legs so that front of pelvis is the highest point of the position. If you are very comfortable u can keep two blocks under pelvis. Happy bridging. At the end of class I was saying “Formless boundless space and the organisational energy/ intelligence therein manifests itself as it’s very opposite - shapes with boundaries, such as our body; which if we look deep into , say through a microscope will reveal itself as space , through layers of tissue, cells, molecules, atoms etc. Similarly if u watch , the mind space projects itself as names, forms and feelings. Normally these formations are so strong and luring that that we can’t sense anything more to it. But right now, at the end of this 1 hr practice , with your gathered attention , sense the energy impulses behind the movements of this mind space -as the continually forming verbal narratives and visual forms ... “ and then, I said as I usually say, “if u wish to sit, sit with this awareness for a while and then gently lie down to shavasama”. Normally most people plop down to mat instantly. But today the 7.30 am class, all of them sat for quite some time. That was beautiful. I understand that Handstand focussed classes as well as classes involving various swipes/ stick twirl etc are not everyone’s favourite cup of tea. So letting u know when they will be at Manasa. Yes, choose which practice helps u best at this point of time and be regular 💪🏼 Handstand themed classes in July - on Thursdays 11 th and 25 th . On 4 th and 18 th we will do back bends. Movements involving swipes and stick- on Tuesdays 9 th and 23 rd #handstand #handstandpractice #armbalance #movement #yoga #manasayoga

I've not been online for sometime now. For the past two months, I have been focussing on a 28 day Ayurveda detox, my favourite human being, Grandson Enzo and daily yoga @manasayoga Backbends and shoulder extensions are not my forte and I must confess I am the reluctantant 'backbender'. I have been neglecting my health, diet and yoga practice too long and travelling to harsh destinations some would rather not compromise on. It feels good to be back to a daily practice and I am as ever, grateful and confident in my Guruji's hands. Thank you @kaimal.manoj for your patience and repeated guidance, whenever I reappear back on the mat. Namaste Shanti 🙏

Some of u have been inquiring about my back. Thank u so much for your kindness. Erector soinae tear is new for me. A bummer in terms of strong and progressively challenging practices. But exciting to explore how I can still move. The erector spinae right now can’t be loaded in hip flexion. So supported chair practice is in the daily menu. Today finally 90 degree hip flexion felt good. Since I hold the chair forward bend positions for 5 mts each I incorporate some shoulder mobility in it. And adding some supported lateral movement as well. Abs and hip flexor strengtheners are tricky. I maintain it within the 90 degree flexion.
