Today's 5pm class being the last #yogaclass of The Year of the Dog #ManasaYoga will be closed tomorrow FEB 4 until FEB 8 for Chinese New Year) was A TRIBUTE TO THE DOG Pulsations class. As we pulsed though several dog inspired movements, we were reminded of man's best friend's commendable qualities like loyalty, unconditional love, equanimity (upekshanam), friendship (maitri), contentment, gratefulness, happiness and lucky-ness. 🐶Some of the pulsations embodied in the class besides #updog & #downwardfacingdog were #downdog & #plank (sausage dog) variations inspired by handicapped dogs (blanket under feet slides), bowing dogs (forearm downdog pulsations), happy dogs (hopping & clapping feet) and finally dead tired dogs in #shavasan. This morning class’s closing Ashtanga mantra, being the last class before we take a few days break for the Chinese New Year, was dedicated to the whole world. When we say ‘may the whole world find peace and happiness’ (loka samastha sukhino bhavantu), that sounds easy. But can we really wish the whole world? Are our hearts big enough for that? In the yoga teachings, the world refers to the different names and forms, the different classes of people which exist in our mind, which supports our identity. We need to develop our ability to wish each class of these beings, before we can wish the whole world. The classical practice starts with wishes towards those in governance of our state/ country (svasti prajabhya)- that they govern well, in honest and just means (nyayena margena), wishes to people who inspire us, teach us (brahmanebhyah), as well as to the dear and difficult people in our lives, the near and far, the neuteral, and the different classes of living beings other than our species. And of course, in our current times, our mind world might be mainly filled with people in our phone- the people in the chat groups who shares our political/ religious views (the dear ones), the people who don’t (the difficult ones), and similar categories across fb, Instagram etc… If we can expand our heart to wish all these categories, then we are ready to chant from the heart- loka samastha sukhino bhavantu. #yoga #peace #prayer #philosophy #awareness #yogainspiration #ashtanga #manasayoga #yogateacher
