CHALLENGE YOUR CORE TODAY! Today, I worked on coordination while focusing on breath. Preventing inhalation in the core is an excellent challenge during exercise. The sniff breath, when executed properly, allows for inhalation in the rib cage as opposed to the core. Not only does this provide support to the head, neck and shoulders, it also provides support to the low back and hips. When I inhale with the sniff breath, I feel my core muscles stabilize my back as my naval travels upward. Next time you do elephant or long stretch series, see if you can prevent inhalation in the core and feel inhalation in the rib cage. I always tell my students breath is a tool not a rule.
