— my Maine people ♥️
Snow and cold are quite bearable when in good company.
Last weekend away as a family of three. Doesn’t jack look excited to meet his sister? 😄
Ice fishing on a great day!!
The past few weeks have really made me begin to think of the importance of all-girl communities (or female-identified), and how rarely people emphasize the effects they have. I've been surrounded by close to 200 girls and women over the summer and it is an environment that contains so much support and love. It is a place where you can speak up and voice your thoughts and desires and not be judged in any way. In the "real world" it is easy to hold yourself back from being your true self - but you are encouraged to be your most crazy and true self when surrounded by exactly that. I've went to a co-ed camp as a kid and unfortunately, in co-ed settings, girls tend to act differently and reduce their own skills in order to conform to sometimes-negative social norms (where girls are expected to perform poorly). Whereas in environments like these, they have much more opportunities to truly “be themselves”, which is so powerful. We're more comfortable, focused, and establish more meaningful relationships when we feel supported and safe, and it is much more likely that a young girl would feel that way around other young women like her. I truly can't find the words to explain how magical this is, and i hope you all have a group of empowering female friends that make you feel the same way ✨💛👭
