Ahhhhh finally back home from a long

Dance-Momming isn’t for the faint of heart... there’s so much work involved as you’re a chauffeur, hairstylist, makeup artist, seamstress, therapist & cheerleader all wrapped in one with lots of super quick costume & hair changes and plenty of 5am wake up times. I tend to rely too much on my lower back for bends so this is such a challenge - it forces me to get more of my back in on the party (especially by working upper back flexibility & shoulder extension). My arms aren’t straight and my back isn’t in a C-Shape but it’s a start! #imgoingtofeelthistomorrow 🔥 ⠀ Catie’s instructions were to hold a weight with wrists together (I used a 10lb weight), keeping arms straight overhead and squeezing around head. Weight shifts back into heels (sticky booty out!) as chest opens with ribs going forward (while maintaining the weight shift into the heels). Don’t forget to breathe! I trimmed hedges & pruned trees, raked, pulled weeds & planted flowers... followed by swimming, tacos & S’mores with some yoga mixed in there too! It was quite the #productiveday 🙌🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With all that forward bending of yard work, Camel poses were just what I needed for a little backbend love. Some of the best cues I’ve learned over the years for this pose: -Hips over knees/ hips push forward -Tailbone tucked -Knees & shins hip distance & parallel -Chest lifts UP before you bend back -Squeeze shoulder blades to broaden chest ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s more important to keep your hips over heels than it is to reach your feet! Hands on lower back or blocks & lifting onto toes to raise heels are great modifications! Swipe to see my daughter rocking her full Grasshopper with zero warmup. 🙄🤣 My best tip to the baby variation is to push all your weight into your standing foot and lean as far forward as possible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☯️Day 6 of #ALOFireOrIce is #LowLunge OR #Splits.☯️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Splits require flexibility in the hips, hamstrings, glutes and quads. For MY BODY, it was hip flexor & quad flexibility holding me back, but once I started embracing lunges (instead of avoiding like the plague), my body started cooperating and the splits started happening. My first ever split was in a #YinYoga class where we held a low lunge for FIVE minutes! My front foot was on a blanket and I slowly slid forward an inch at a time over those 5 minutes until I realized I was on the ground! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What will you choose for Day 6?⁣ Chill out ❄️ in a hip opening low lunge or feel the fire by sliding into a split🔥? Unless you’re a kid with jellyfish hips, the splits just takes time... don’t force it because an injury is so not worth it for a pretty picture! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☯️Day 5 of #ALOFireOrIce is #ForwardFold OR #HandstandPress.☯️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My secret to hamstring flexibility... forward fold any chance you get! I check emails, sort socks, paint toenails, pull weeds... pretty much always in a forward fold if at all possible! 🤣 If you’re on a #questforthepress you just might want to learn to love all #ForwardFoldVariations too! ⠀ Hamstring flexibility is especially important in pressing because the closer we can get our feet to our hands in a forward fold, the higher up we can get our hips. Compression of low belly to thighs in a forward fold before lifting onto tip toes means that hips can get even HIGHER up and makes the float so much easier. 🎈I always suggest standing on blocks to elevate hips when learning the mechanics of a press (vs leaning into a wall). If the hips are high enough, with a lean and a tilt of the pelvis, hips roll and legs float up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Obviously there’s a LOTTTT more to it (I’ve been working on my presses for years!) but hamstring flexibility is a key element! {Swipe to see both my handstand & pincha presses.} What will you choose for Day 5?⁣ Chill out ❄️ in a forward fold or feel the fire by working on a press 🔥? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☯️Day 4 of #ALOFireOrIce is #ChildsPose OR #ExtendedPuppyPose.☯️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Chilling in Child’s Pose ❄️ is like hanging out at home base. It can be the start of your practice, centering yourself and taking some gentle stretches. It can be the place you return for some extra breaths in a more vigorous flow, reminding you that it’s ok to slow down, that this is YOUR practice and if you need to rest then do it! ⠀ Child’s Pose is also a great way to enter a much more fired up pose: #PuppyPose 🔥Arms outstretched and gradually inching fingers further and further out as you keep chest to floor... this was once the ultimate torture pose in my practice! I felt trapped & suffocated & oh so awkward! 😵 Placing a block under my forehead and then over time taking forehead to floor I was able to get much more comfortable here. With consistent practice (and so much patience), I’m now able to fully melt chest to floor, tuck toes under and extend the legs. 🔥🔥 It’s so intense but over time has become one of my favorite ever stretches and has helped my backbends/flip grips SO much! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Which pose will you choose for Day 4?⁣ Introvert or Extrovert?⁣ Yin or Yang? ⁣Fire or Ice? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☯️Day 3 of #ALOFireOrIce is #PyramidPose OR #fallenflamingo .☯️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ...or #DoubleFlamingoPose if you really want more 🔥! Chilling in a regular #PyramidPose is where I begin before playing around with the Flamingo variations. Lots of core involved and I find my forearms get really tired if I spend too much time working on it. Compressing thigh to belly and rounding the back to help shimmy the second foot up to meet the other is my best tip for getting the Double version. Exiting can be a little tricky (maybe possibly brace yourself for a potential 🍑 landing as I found when first learning this pose 🙈) but try it and just have fun! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Be sure to check out what my cohosts have chosen for Day 3! When I first started yoga I thought this deep variation was 100% beyond my capabilities but over time (years!) i was able to find the strength & flexibility to get there!
