How do you occupy time as you wait for baby to come earth side? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some suggestions - if I may- ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Color. It helps pass time. 2. Play some dancing music and dance the day away. 3. Bake some bread from scratch. The kneading of dough helps move your body rhythmically. And waiting for it to rise helps time pass. Make 2 loaves. One for current. One in freezer. 4. Make a cake from scratch. Again, it passes time. And when baby is born it is a true birthday cake!! 5. Make some soup. Divide it into containers for freezing. Postpartum meals are at your fingertips. 6. Walk! Walk! Move your body!!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And my last suggestion ~ cover the clocks. Don’t wear a watch. Who cares what the time is. This breath will teach you how to breath your baby out instead of pushing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are you aware of breathing baby out benefits? 1. Most babies can come without pushing. 2. Breathing baby out allows only your uterine muscles to work, the rest of the body doesn’t get in the way. 3. Breathing baby out allows your tissues to stretch instead of possibly tearing your nether region. 4. It is easier on your baby. 5. Pushing is exhausting! Save your energy by breathing baby out. 6. Your recovery from a vaginal birth can mean an easier and faster recovery. 7. More oxygen reaches your baby. Monitoring ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fetal monitoring is used in late pregnancy to evaluate the fetus or to check fetal wellbeing during labor. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Is it truly needed? Well, lying on your back with this monitor can actually change babies heart beat. Then it’s all about “you are putting your baby’s life in danger. We must do an intervention.” It is normal during labor for baby’s heart rate to drop slightly during a surge. It will quickly return to normal once the surge is over. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bottom line: YES, you can say NO. If you are not a high risk pregnancy and birth you have the right to refuse. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After years of research there is no evidence showing that continuous fetal monitoring does not help babies be born healthier. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Talk to your provider and hospital for reasons pro and con!
