Western of Hunan is a mountainous area in which many ethnic groups live, including Miao, Tujia, Hui, Yao, Dong, Zhuang and Han etc. The main groups are Miao and Tujia. This unique geographic environment, together with the condition that many ethnic groups live here, has given birth to Xiangxi Culture. All the womens in this village have extremely long hair. The longest hair lerngth is about 2,30 m, while the average is 1,70 m. By Yao Ethnic womens, Huangluo Village is today famous as long hair village. . Normally the women will never show you her hair when she is not married, and they cut the hair one time per life at time they are married. . This photos show two womens, they are sisters in law. Woman on left side is married with brother to the other women on right side. . One more amazing thing is Yao womens could keep their hair black as a whole life. They wash the hair with water mixed with some special herbal plants mixed with boiled rice water. According to their culture, a woman's hair should only be seen by her husband and children.
